Renart Posted 3 January 2017 Posted 3 January 2017 Wow, the last 5 games went so quickly. We are over halfway through the season now, and should have a better idea of where we might finish. I have expanded a few of the choices to allow for more accuracy, but it should still tally with the previous graphs given below. Make your choices and give your reasons as usual.
Innovindil Posted 3 January 2017 Posted 3 January 2017 Couple of decent January signings and we can still aim for the top half. Only a handful of points away while still being out of form. One decent mini-run we're back up there.
STUHILL Posted 3 January 2017 Posted 3 January 2017 January signings will make or break our season. We have some woefully underperforming players, but a team with the backbone of average joes who won the title last season, must have spirit and fight in abundance. We just need to tap back into that and hope with some more quality coming in, we can start picking up wins home and away. I still think we will be alright, as long as Claudio gets those 2 or 3 players in to help in defence and creativity but there are also a lot of decent, battling teams this year and the gap to the top 6 is back, so I think with our poor start, around 13th is what we are looking at now.
Renart Posted 3 January 2017 Author Posted 3 January 2017 Ok. So it is early in the vote (only 25 members have voted) but already we can see something interesting: 75% of members think we will finish somewhere between 11th-14th, as compared to: 53% with 15 games played 9% with 10 games played and 2% at the beginning of the season and with 5 games played. Nobody so far thinks we will finish higher than 9th and nobody thinks we will get relegated.... So most people believe that we are in and around our level and will not get much better and will not get much worse?
filbertway Posted 3 January 2017 Posted 3 January 2017 No matter how badly Claudio sets us up and some of the terrible teams we've lined up, we somehow don't look as bad as some teams in this league. Still think anything below top 8 is an underachievement this season but think it will be closer to 12th. A lot depends on our signings though. If we show some brains and put together a stronger squad (not just signing every winger or striker in the little black book that Walshy left behind), there's no reason we can't pick up enough points to push for 7th or 8th. If we continue to show little ambition of creating an improved footballing team and Claudio genuinely thinks what we have is good enough, then I imagine it will be closer to 15th. (I realise I've basically said every possible position there and stated the obvious :D)
UPinCarolina Posted 3 January 2017 Posted 3 January 2017 9 minutes ago, FireFox said: 7th. It's a lot to ask for, but I think we will. I wish I shared your optimism. I think we're headed for a 10-12th place finish...to be fair though, I didn't think we would be taking a scenic route.
Izzy Posted 3 January 2017 Posted 3 January 2017 I've said 8th since pre season but changed it to a more realistic 11/12th now. I'll still be happy with that and if we can somehow beat Seville in the CL and have a good FA cup run, it will still be a decent season as far as I'm concerned...
daverollo Posted 3 January 2017 Posted 3 January 2017 We're 3 points behind Bournemouth who are in 9th place and I think that should be realistic if the team has a strong finish to the season. The effort from the players has certainly been their from the Man City game onwards. Yes we have some tricky fixtures coming up in Jan/Feb but I'll keep the faith in the team. At least Claudio has tinkered with the formation to see if something other than 442 might work and the signs are encouraging. Reckon we'll end Chelski's winning streak on 14th Jan
Leamington Fox Posted 3 January 2017 Posted 3 January 2017 I am a bit of a blue-eyed optimist, but I really see us going on a winning streak of sorts in the next month or so. I think we've had our worst spell. Three points at Southampton- mark my words!
Ted Maul Posted 3 January 2017 Posted 3 January 2017 I've gone for 11/12th now, but no reason why we can't kick on if we have a good window and get some confidence back.
ZeGuy Posted 3 January 2017 Posted 3 January 2017 Imo it depends on how the team will cope with the AFCON departures. I don't expect the signing(s) to hit the ground running (maybe Ndidi ?), so we'll pretty much see the usual team, bar the african players, for at least three games. But if we manage to get 6-7 points from the next six, then there is a good chance to finish in the top 12. I'd settle for a 13th-14th though.
WiFoxes Posted 3 January 2017 Posted 3 January 2017 Have been 7-10th since the start of the year but now I really think somewhere in the 11th-14th range, I went 11th/12th just because I'm being optimistic I guess. Some tricky upcoming fixtures and if we can come out of them with a fair number of points I think we'll have some momentum.
Renart Posted 3 January 2017 Author Posted 3 January 2017 I believe that I am an optimist but I cannot see us finishing above 10th (that is my optimism).
nnfox Posted 3 January 2017 Posted 3 January 2017 Half way through the season. Our "better" performances seem to be happening more often. I am encouraged by the fact that our away fixtures in the second half of the season are easier (only Man City of the top clubs) so expect us to pick up many more points on the road. Obviously though, our home fixtures are (on paper) more difficult. I've gone for 10th/11th but if we can string 2-3 decent results and performances together the I don't see why we couldn't challenge for a top 8 spot. It is all to play for!
Amin Posted 3 January 2017 Posted 3 January 2017 Looking at the table, I think we can overtake Watford and Burnley. 12th for me.
Guest CityFan 06 Posted 3 January 2017 Posted 3 January 2017 The thing is, the table is really tight this season, the point differences between all the positions suggest that. This season we will either keep hovering above the relegation zone, or we will really push on & have a very good second half of the season, and finish in the top half/ten. I hope the latter will be the case, and we are capable of that. What I do hope though, whether we push on this season or not, in the future I want us to become a high top half/top ten team. I want us to become a well known quality side in the division. Really don't want to be relegated, we need to become established but in comfortable & impressive fashion season on season.
biggs Posted 3 January 2017 Posted 3 January 2017 With some optimism and a few decent signings in January I expect a finish of 7th or 8th. Current squad with no changes and the level of play we've seen so far, we will continue our struggles. Vardy, Mahrez who we counted on more than ever to closely match their performance of last year are way off the mark in performance and arguably attitude. Ranieri cannot be overlooked either in getting the team ready for games. He's got the plan/formation/movement wrong so often this year as he tries (I think) to sort out the missing puzzle piece who Chelsea snapped up. Hoof ball from the back is a constant and with what I'm guessing are fewer interceptions from the midfield has screwed up our ability to counter at pace this year. Midfield last year got the ball themselves....now they rarely have it other than the outside players and even then??? So yeah 7th or 8th with the right signings and desire
crazyleicester Posted 3 January 2017 Posted 3 January 2017 13th/14th I reckon. We have better players than those around us, more options and have money to spend in this window like it seems we have already done with Ndidi. Im also hoping that the hangover of last year wont carry over into 2017 and that some of our younger talents like Gray and Chilwell make a difference. Oh, we`ll beat Sevilla and get dicked by Real Madrid in the last 8!
Kinowe Soorie Posted 3 January 2017 Posted 3 January 2017 I've only been impressed by Southampton at home this season and even they have gone poop. 8th! Here's hoping!!
Nalis Posted 3 January 2017 Posted 3 January 2017 Sticking with 8th. Lets face it, 8th to 18th are as shit as each other and most can finish 8th with a bit of a run.
