He was fine but if Amartey was deployed in a midfield 3 he would have had a similar impact.

im being overly critical because of the amount of gushing on here over his signing - he'll be a good player but he needs some time and doesn't need hyping. Someone described him as Viera like, his distribution in the second half was poor but he broke up play reasonably well.

Like the look of him. Tall, quick, pretty composed on the ball.

Ive made the point before however....the introduction of good young players needs to be done properly. God knows what he must have thought yesterday, having been a hero at Genk, to come into a side where you have the likes of Pedro, Willian and Hazard passing around you for fun...what a baptism of fire!

I hope he takes this on the chin and learns about the Prem quickly, rather than letting it knock his confidence.

So far, this season we have done a lot of stuff in a very amateurish way IMO.

I agree.  I was disappointed with how audible some of the groans and moans were with one or two of his misplaced passes.

I can see him being at the heart of a really strong side next season, assuming we can overhaul the central defence.

.........and we stay up?

The whole team competed well enough in the first half, Ndidi and Mendy were nice and tidy and produced solid defensive work. Second half however the whole team were poor including those two, lack of composure, outmuscled just a very weak display all round.

Both look decent enough, but with the midfield problems we've had this season we need them to deliver for a full 90, like we saw at Everton.

Go back to 4-4-2 and see how he does next to DD with Okazaki in front

Agree with this!.. And when Amartey returns get him converted to a CB

If you at Chelsea third goal Ndidi was 3-4 yards behind the rest of the defence playing Willian on so I think midfield is his spot.

With him Mendy and Amartey all appearing to be the same type of player it might make sense to convert the latter into a centre back.

Occupying the 'Liam Moore ' position then ?

I thought they also played well. Drinkwater was shocking.

Mendy and Ndidi did what they were meant to be doing. People shouldn't be expecting them to do more. We need a creative mid.

Ndidi is head and shoulders above Amartey in the midfield. By a country mile. He has everything Amartey lacks: passing, composure on the ball, play forward and above all, vision. I saw more of a midfielder in Ndidi in one game than in Amartey the whole season. And it's only been his second game.

I think Amartey would do great as CB but he's not a starter in the midfield anymore.

I didn't see Ndidi make a successful pass in the 2nd half....Amartey is so under rated it's crazy. I agree he's not a starter and we've got to back Ndidi but he's never been given the opportunity to play in a 3, and had 3/4 outstanding games in a 2.

I didn't any of the players make a successful pass in the second half. It was horrendous. Especially after the second goal. The whole team collapsed, so there is no reason to single out any player.

Amartey has hugely improved compared to the begin of the season, despite being thrown in the lion's dent because of a dire situation in the midfield. Anyone stating the contrary would be dishonest. But you don't need to see Amartey in a midfield three to notice the difference between them. Ndidi is uncomparably more comfortable with the ball, his passing and positioning on the pitch is miles above Amartey's. He simply reads the game better. And it's only his second game, against the actual best team of the league. Let him adjust to the team you'll see how much of an improvement Ndidi over Amartey is.

Bloody good job I didn't write this...

id be a. Slaughtered

b. Banned.

But I agree. I also agree I'd play Amartey at CB.

Looked like Amartey in an Ndidi shirt to be honest. I think too many people watched it wanting Ndidi to be good and thus overlooked his flaws.

5/10, some decent moments but largely anonymous and gave it away too often.

But he's a kid and it's to be expected. Mendy was the one yesterday. Thought he had a very good game.

His cross field ball to Drinkwater in the first half stood out as a bit of quality. His quick feet when he nicked it in the middle of the park and laid it off to Mendy showed potential.

Best thing about ndidi that I saw was his quickness, aggression and willingness to win the ball back in the 1st half.... Bit like kante.

Amartey is just lumbering and slow, people seem to get away from him easily. Ndidi seems to have more about him winning the ball back. He also more confident on the ball passing forward.

Tbf to Amartey he's improved him game. When given time he looks better and better. But I wouldn't mind maybe seeing him be converted to a CB. Just hope if that happened he didn't turn into the next Sol Bamba and try and play himself out of danger.

Absolutely. I stated it in my last post. I'm not having a go at him, just saying Ndidi is simply better in the midfield.

There's no doubt Ndidi looks a more natural midfielder to Amartey. To me Ranieri doesn't really know where Amartey's best position is. He can play in centre mid, can slot in a right back and also centre back. He's a utility player.

Thought he was really good in the first half, and the second was a bit of a disaster and can't blame him. What I liked was his demeanor, he looks like he means business compared to Amartey who looks a little like a rabbit in the headlights when he's on the pitch.

That's because once Huth went off, Ndidi went into a far more deeper and defensive role playing unremarkable but safe passes. In the first half there was one outstanding piece of skill when he nicked the ball from a Chelsea player and played a fantastic forward ball bypassing about 3 Chelsea players. It was only our shit passing (Albrighton I think) that stopped a promising attack. If he can do that against Chelsea in only his 2nd game, the guys going to be exceptional in future.
