Andy King at half-time?

Mendy not even being in the squad speaks volumes, Guessing he isn't the player we expected him to be? Similar to Musa, Katpuska, Benni, Hernandez, Zieler ?

If we go down, then recruitment will have played a huge factor. It's another area where I believe Claudio is probably too passive. We should have either aimed a lot higher and paid more, or we should have shown more faith in what we did buy and actually play them.

I wonder if there has been a complete disconnect with the recruitment team and Claudio, and they have been signing these players without much input from Claudio, and after seeing them, he has had no faith in playing them. If they were his signings, surely he would play them!

So we improved when King came on did we? He was appalling at Derby as well,so the question was relevant, would you of brought him on in place of shinji or Musa.If so you are Mrs King:blush:

Hard to improve when we sit back and he's come on at 2-0 down, they did/will just keep the ball. Simple really.

Okazaki did nothing wrong.

One assumes your not including losing possession in your analysis there?

To be fair i would be looking more in the direction of Drinkwater and Simpson when it comes to giving the ball away needlessly.

When did he lose possession? First goal?

Almost every time he touched it mate. Won't be hard to spot if you watch it again.

I just think he plays the whole well. United had so much space second half where King should have been.

Im not Kings biggest fan but one thing he can bring is goals from midfield, something we are seriously lacking and have been for a while. We all know he is anonymous at times but he has a great habit of getting into the box and getting us a goal which at 0-2 down was obviously needed. It was a gamble that didnt pay off unfortunately.

Why do we applaud Shinji for winning free kicks in our half?

Our game isn't based on possession but quick counters? Surely winning a free kick (please don't try and tell me he doesn't go looking to win one) just slows us down?

Neither King nor Okazaki have the needed CAM qualities of the premier league . Compare them to Mata, Dele Alli, Lalana, Hazard, Noble, etc ...

The game was effectively over when King came on and certainly so when Fuchs effectively donated their third 10 minutes later.

But it was King who twice fed Gray in space to create two of our best chances.

Otherwise he, like others, spent the entire time covering the keepball of a United team which held all the aces.

Even on specific occasions when he made himself available, our central defender were too tired and too nervous to risk being exposed by a ground pass. They simply lofted the ball for a bit of relief.

And, to be fair, even if they'd fed the ball to King I don't think there was anyone but Gray with the energy to run off him and even that ended well before the end.

I've never seen out centre-backs look so tired - or the team fade so dramatically once their opponents scored.

Yes another. Crap substitution.but it does show how bad Mendy is.he is worse than inler .

we are broken and going down.at leat we can enjoy the championship again-and get rid of the half and half scarf plastics

He couldn't have touched the ball more than 5 times in that second half.

The entire team didn't touch it much - especially in a constructive sense because they were virtually at a standstill apart from Gray's usual 20 minutes. We were a spent force after their second goal - and even more so after the third.

It looked all about damage limitation in the last half-hour.

Genuinely **** off. King did no wrong today. He literally cannot do anything right to some people. 350 games. 60 goals for the club. League 1, Championship, Premier League winner.

Linked the midfield and attack fine and did as well as anyone else. Much bigger problems than this.

This link play he does is so good and so fast that it's not visible to the naked eye.

For me it wasn't that king did no wrong, it was that King did nothing. That's a reoccurring theme with him.

I think the point is, when you are 2-0 down, does it make sense to replace an attacking player with King? Probably not.

I would've subbed Shinji at half time for Gray and left Musa on.

The decision made total sense to me.

They were winning every second ball in the midfield and so we needed an extra body. As for King over Mendy, a trademark of a Mourinho team is that they are big and strong and therefore it made sense to choose a player with more height even just for the benefit of set pieces.

Claudio maybe getting shafted by his players but he half doesn't bring stuff on himself aswell

I was completely baffled by that sub, you need to go with 2 up top and attack when 2 down not basically go to a 4-5-1

If hovering between players trying to look busy is your thing then he did just fine. Negative passes is his thing and the moment he pushed a player instead of jumping for the header just summed up the lack of drive the bloke has. Having said that he is one of the cleverest people I've ever come across to have made a career in football playing as he does

The fact we are champions who have spent £80m and still play league one standard players like King,  shinji and Musa goes a long way to explaining why we are one of, if not the, worst team in the premier league,  especially in terms of technical ability.

I would of kept Shinji on at half time, his intensity was needed in winning the ball back and getting a few free kicks, when we got gray and mahrez there is no way they will run after defenders and try to win the ball back, man u defence had time to pass the ball about, you see mahrez body language today, heads down shoulder slumped. we didn't play too bad until Huth mistake let the goal in

There's not many will do that.

Mendy?! He looks like a League 2 player. So unfit it's a joke. Statistically, King has been our best midfielder this year. Should have started.

It wasn't him coming on that was an issue but bringing off a striker for a steady midfielder was stupid.

Agree looks unfit, had a poor pre season as did they all, going on that pointless around the world tournament, and then injured badly and out for months, not the best preparation to a season.

You might be right, but I think I will wait to write him off until we see how he's goes next season.

King makes sense as a sub if you're 2-0 up, not if you're 2-0 down.

I really hoped that Kapi would get a chance rather than seeing the same old faces churning out the same old shit.

It was absolutely heartbreaking to watch at the end.  For maybe the first time this season, the players actually looked like the realisation that they're not as good as they think they are washed over them.

United had the game won with the 3rd goal and subsequently dropped their tempo, so pretty much impossible to judge whether the King substitution was good, bad or indifferent
