Falcao.

Didn't he get injured for a year then loaned out to utd/chelsea before returning to monaco?

Couple of days late but idgaf.

Falcao was loaned out with the intention to sell. He wasn't good enough so MUFC and Chelsea didn't buy him. The common practice of loaning out a player to get fit and then to bring back that Doctor talks about isn't very common is it?

Sending players out on loan for match fitness is common practise, the problem is more reintegration into the squad afterwards because it's done for serious injuries where often the player just can't get to the level he was at before: a leg break can absolutely ruin a career - Ramsey is one of the few that bounced back to the level they were before. But that does not mean loaning them out is proof they're not wanted like you seem to think.

He'll have loaned James out to carry on his recovery, and he'd then be assessed at the end of the season as to whether he's not been too negatively impacted to be at the required level. If James wasn't wanted at all he'd not have got the end of the man city game for a return.

The only chance James had of coming back and playing a role was with Claudio no longer at the club. He hopefully now has a chance if Shakey is a success but the general practice of loaning out an experienced elder pro (fit or regaining fitness) is to move them off the playing roster for the club or the players benefit without any significant transfer fees and is usually because the manager doesn't need the player around enough to justify getting them fit or keeping them at the club. I'm sure other higher profile players wouldn't've been consider for loan with the same injury (e.g Vardy.) A non youth loan usually results in that player leaving at the end of their contract or before. That's the reality that the vast majority of elder loan players face. Hardly any come back. Ramsey was a loan of a young player who had experienced such an awful injury that the loan was as much about getting the lad to decide whether he was mentally able to play football at professional level again never mind physically able, such was the nature of his injury.

bit like James then, seeing as this was the second time around for this

Not really, there was no counselling required for James or any risk that he might lose his leg.

yes it is a flawed comparison, but there must be an element of doubt in someone's mind as to whether they can perform having suffered two potentially career ending knee injuries.

Yeh true but I think the doubt was more in Claudio's mind.

definitely from Claudio, a bit of both I suspect but who knows !

A loan out was the only option, with this season in a mess at the time, we'd all be averse to risking an unknown quantity.

under CR James wasn't coming back into the first team, now the door is open

If he gets a full pre-season why can't he slot back in? He was terrific next to Cambiasso in the great escape year

Slot in where? Unless he's happy to be a bench player, dropping Drinky or Ndidi for him would not make any sense, nor would switching to 433...

Bench, rotation idk, but he's a good player, why not bring him on late in a game to help sure up the middle of the park?

Yes amartey does that now but I see him shifting to CB next year

The Barnsley manager was raving about James a few days ago, saying that even though he lacks full match fitness, he's is a cut above any other midfielder in the Championship. He's only 24 and I'd love to see him back here next season playing alongside Ndidi and Drinkwater.

It has been the perfect move for him. I know people have said he should have been involved for us, but this is a great way to build his confidence again and also show us what he can do.

Luckily he could have Shakespeare in charge in the summer, and he should be fully aware of how good he is.

Drinky, N'didi and James with Mendy/King or possibly a new CM signing in the summer. Still hoping for Silva..   Amartey to CB.

I wish the guy well but he is in his comfort zone in the championship. We have moved on and I can't see

him featuring again , same with Andy King

We could really do with a CM that scores a few goals.

Would be awesome to have as a squad player. While fully fit, why can't he push Drinky for a starting spot? He might push Drinky on further as well. Could be win-win for the club to have him back involved.

As much as I love Andy King, Matty James was miles better when we won the Championship and miles better during the Great Escape. He should be miles better if he comes back to us in the summer too.

He won't play unless we play 433 and even then that formation requires goals from midfielders.

Your assuming both will be here next year

I suspect Drinky will move on
