reynard Posted 20 February 2017 Posted 20 February 2017 I have to say I am rather startled by the comparisons between the final 20 league matches and their results of Peter Taylor's disastrous time at the club and the last 20 league games under Claudio. It is not only results which compare. Perhaps a case of history repeating itself. The basic stats are as follows Peter Taylor's last 20 4 wins, 2 draws and 14 defeats. Goals scored 17 goals conceded 39 Points accumulated 14 Number of games we didn't score 10. Claudio's last 20 3 wins 5 draws 12 defeats. Goals scored 17 conceded 36 Points acumulated 14 Number of Games we didn't score 10. Other similarities include the loss of a key midfielder. For Taylor it was Lennon for Claudio Kante. Both managers fell/have fallen out with a striker. For Taylor it was Collymore for Claudio Ulloa. Both managers suffered very poor losses to third tier teams in the same stage of the FA Cup and both to very late goals. Two strikers to be considered to be poor investments. For Taylor Akinbiyi (he did score 9 league goals that season by the way) for Claudio Musa (will he score as many as 9??) Both managers afflicted by press rumours of player discontent etc etc. Not making out a case about anything just amazed by how similar those run of mathces were for both managers and how similar off the field matters were and are. Amazing to think that after we beat Liverpool on March 4th 2001 we were 4th in the Premier League. The next match was Wycombe in the FA Cup and we all know what happened after that. Let's hope history doesn't completely repeat itself.
Raw Dykes Posted 20 February 2017 Posted 20 February 2017 It's uncanny. Only real difference is that Taylor didn't have the PL Champions at his disposal.
eunmac Posted 20 February 2017 Posted 20 February 2017 Taylor didn't have Champions League 'distracting' him?
norwichfox Posted 20 February 2017 Posted 20 February 2017 Now my nightmares will start again...thank a bunch for pointing this out

One against Man City the other against Spurs. The latter was the only game we won after the Wycombe defeat! So in both runs nearly 25% of our goals scored came in one game. Happy nightmares!
Koke Posted 20 February 2017 Posted 20 February 2017 Taylor had some aging defenders. Ranieri has some aging defenders.
Guest Chocolate Teapot Posted 20 February 2017 Posted 20 February 2017 Both managers cashed in on the setup of the previous regime. As soon as this was dismantled club goes into free fall. Took longer in Ranieri's case and he deserves some credit for that, but given the money he's had available to him it's fairly embarrassing still.
Realist Guy In The Room Posted 20 February 2017 Posted 20 February 2017 Taylor had silver hair, Claudio has silver hair.
norwichfox Posted 20 February 2017 Posted 20 February 2017 One of Peter Taylor's legs is both the same....
surrifox Posted 20 February 2017 Posted 20 February 2017 Taylor had Junior Lewis masquerading as a footballer at a cost of £150k Claudio's cost tens of millions

filbertway Posted 20 February 2017 Posted 20 February 2017 Haha I only started thinking of the similarities in the past few weeks but it is kind of startling. Vardy to sue us for trying to wrongfully sack him and put us in admin. On top of the points deduction we can get for cooking the books in the championship last time we'll start the season on -20 and carry our slide into the abyss. Andy King taking over as player manager with Thracian as his right hand man.
Sol thewall Bamba Posted 20 February 2017 Posted 20 February 2017 Both teams that they managed played in blue.
surrifox Posted 20 February 2017 Posted 20 February 2017 Taylor could do a passable impression of Norman Wisdom , Claudio's Frank Spencer is a tour de force

FLAN Posted 20 February 2017 Posted 20 February 2017 But has Claudio made David Beckham England captain?

Collymore stopped playing as he came back from a a broken leg, played in the reserves, midfield and totally bossed the game and encouraged and instructed a young team. Benji also played but did bugger all and allowed the kids to chase all day. Stan called him a lazy bastard etc, Big Trev came back with you lazy cuunt. Cue half time whistle, handbags all the way down the tunnel. Trev used to be a boxer and so did Stan, albeit Swedish weather girls (Trumps indecent?)# All under my nose, and no show by big Stan second half, wounded as we'd lost one of our most naturally skillful players ever
surrifox Posted 20 February 2017 Posted 20 February 2017 Wasn't there a story about Colly taking the piss out of Trev's shortsightedness and throwing an orange at him which provoked a bit of a riot
Old Fox Posted 20 February 2017 Posted 20 February 2017 Wow....always makes the skin curl when we mention that prat especially as he managed the national side....bloke was a complete tosser and went on to prove that ...had no real career before or after us of any note ....was a media love child that was our nightmare.... Stats and above are all uncanny in comparison however there is no comparison for me as that dick sent us back 15 years whereas whatever CR has done wrong I am confident that our club will recover.....be nice if it started this week.......
