When it was picked for TV we were still relegation fodder. Nobody could foresee we'd win 5 in a row and be mid table.

It's a nothing game now but it wasn't 4 weeks ago.

Middlesbrough Burnley looks a better shout that our game this weekend, even though Burnley a month ago looked safer than they do now (or did 3 days ago)

Our game away at Palace next week would have been a more interesting shout than Everton. Man City-Hull or even Stoke-Liverpool would usually be ahead of our game for TV interest. I get what you say about this being arranged a month ago but even so this is the only game of ours Sky have selected, any other game of ours Sky have later on in the season is more in the interest of the bigger team than it is our relegation battle, and Everton realistically aren't going to get top 6

Great article on why we are being shafted with our fixture list around the champions league. If we hadn't got that win on Tuesday we wouldn't have the luxury of resting players on Sunday (technically we arent safe so could do with something here). I would be tempted to play a C team on Sunday as a **** you to the league.

Leicester City are getting a rough deal from the Premier League and TV companies in their bid to prolong their Champions League adventure, writes Mark Clayton in an opinion piece.

Sunday's clash with Everton kicks off at 4pm in Liverpool due to the demands of television, with the game live on Sky TV.

Atletico Madrid play a full 24 hours earlier against their big city rivals Real Madrid in the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium at 3.15pm on Saturday.

No-one at the King Power Stadium will complain and even if they did - there is no point. It won't change anything with the power the TV companies now hold.

But European leagues, particularly Spain's La Liga, go out of their way to give every assistance to their teams in the Champions League. The Premier League don't.

This means Atletico will get an extra 24 hours recovery and preparation time before the first-leg clash at the Vicente Calderon Stadium next Wednesday.

Atletico also have no travelling with only a trip across the city for the Real game on Saturday and a home first-leg on the Wednesday. City have a trip to Liverpool on the Sunday, a recovery day, then travel to Madrid on the Tuesday for the game on the Wednesday.

There is no reason whatsoever for City's game with Everton to be the final TV game of the weekend (we're discounting the Monday night fixture between Crystal Palace and Arsenal). In fact, it is difficult to see why Sky want the Everton v City fixture on the TV at all.

But if TV do want the game televised, why not 12.30pm on Saturday instead of Tottenham v Watford with neither team having a midweek fixture? Or what about the 5.30pm kick-off on Saturday instead of the Bournemouth v Chelsea fixture? Even 1.30pm on Sunday, instead of Sunderland v Manchester United, would be slightly better.

To make it the final weekend game is simply unfair and ludicrous.

City are the only one of the eight teams left in the Champions League to be playing on the Sunday. Although Juventus and Barcelona are playing on Saturday night and then on Tuesday in the Champions League, they place each other in Turin.

Champions League quarter-finals (with weekend domestic fixtures this weekend in brackets) are:

Tuesday, 7.45pm

Dortmund (Saturday, 5.30pm, at Bayern Munich) v Monaco (Saturday, 4pm, at Angers).

Juventus (Saturday, 7.45pm, at home) v Barcelona (Saturday, 7.45pm, at Malaga)

Wednesday, 7.45pm

Atletico Madrid (Saturday, 3.15pm, at Real) v Leicester City (Sunday, 4pm, at Everton)

Bayern Munich (Saturday, 5.30pm, at home) v Real Madrid (Saturday, 3.15pm, at home)

We get an extra day rest after our game against Sunderland and Atletico's game agains Real will take more energy out of their players as it's a rival match.  We will be fine. We look as fit as fiddles. Onwards and upwards to the semi finals ???

It is what it is and always has been, you can't let clubs dictate the fixture list and if Sky have to pick fixtures based around Champions league teams not playing on Sunday then super Sunday would be pretty piss poor before a Champion's league week.

We would be moaning if the schedule was being constantly changed at short notice, some would be moaning if we introduced a winter break and reduced the number of teams in the league, some would be moaning if we moved the FA Cup to mid week (I think having 2 rearranged fixtures due to our opponents still being in the FA Cup is just as big a problem), we would be moaning if we had paid to see a team play and get the reserves. We go out to win every game and the challenge is building a squad big enough to do that and manage it through the season. You can't just play the same players for 90 minutes every week with no rest and then complain they are tired.

We knew the situation when the league started and we just need to get on with it and enjoy it, nobody from the club is moaning they are focussing all their energies on getting the players ready.

Tv have far too much say over games and the premier league prostituting football all over the world for a fine wedge not a care in the world for a clubs run in to certain games, but City should give them the Bird and go in on Wednesday at Atletico hopefully nice bit of payback and get a positive result and certainly makes you think what they have up their sleeves for the return leg will they be swapping our games last minute to keep those Whores at sky happy??

Come on city let's get a decent result in Spain and bring them back to the KP and scare the Fuchs out of them !!

You realise that the TV companies pay billions of pounds in order to get "too much say". And the clubs are eating of their hands and lapping up the money.

I'm pretty sure they'd still pay these billions even if they were told not to put teams on the Sunday that have champions league games the following week. There's no reason they can't.

Although we look fit and fresh and we'll be fine. After all we've been playing at about 20% most of the season

He has a point but end of the day, that's what a squad is for and thank **** we got the 6 points about Stoke and S'land to give us some breathing space. If not we'd be in 2 pts above the drop zone!

Actually scares me thinking like that, if Claudio had stayed and we'd picked up 2 points from our last 5 games (which is being generous) we'd be joint 19th with Middlesbrough, 7 points off safety!!!!

One of the best recent decisions this club has made sacking Claudio and letting Shakey take the reins!

Just because we take the money doesn't mean we can't comment that maybe the TV games could have a little more thought about them. I think the Grand National has also played a part in this one but they could've had this game at 12.30pm on Saturday but it's not and we have to get on with it.

The other top leagues in Europe seem to be a lot more helpful to their clubs who are in European competition than the Premier League is, and maybe the Premier League need to look at this if they want English clubs to be more successful in Europe after all one club in the last eight is an embarrassment for the Premier League

It's fair to say that we've caught a slight bit of bad luck on this occasion but bare in mind that we played at home in the Premier League after every single Champions League in qualifying. It is simply part and parcel of the demands of European football and it's great to see that the majority of posts are centred around footballers being able to cope with that - We're fortunate to now be in a position where we can rest players, whereas Atletico have no choice but to go all guns blazing if they stand any chance against Madrid, in which they need a result to try to maintain their position in third. No excuses should be made from it.

Atletico "only" have a trip to play Real Madrid. lol

Only have to focus on playing their closest rivals who also happen to be about the best team in the world. For a top of the table clash.

Only.

Meanwhile we've got to contend with the devastating, grueling hell mission of a two hour flight in first class after playing a dead rubber against another midtable also ran.

We're so unfortunate.

Looking at the La Liga table Atletico can fully focus on us and may even rest players against Real Madrid.

They have no chance of winning the league being 10pts behind Real and played a game more. They're also 10pts ahead of 5th place with eight games left,

The only thing they're fighting for in the league is finishing 3rd or 4th. 3rd has the advantage of straight qualification to the Champions League whilst 4th is a play off but they'd be big favourites to qualify anyway. Sevilla have fallen apart since Vardy made it 2-1 in Spain. They haven't won a game in their last six fixtures and drew at home to the likes of Leganes and Sporting Gijon.

I expect Atletico are fully focusing on us for the sake of their season as 3rd place is almost in the bag for them.
