There is no evidence of wage compression in industries other than fruit picking, and some in care homes. If your fruit picking or care home wages are being squeezed by scummy Poles, youd have a valid point. Daz, I get why you can't stand her and that's your prerogative mate. My point was about separating the person from the politician, that's all As a human being, I have a certain sympathy for the fact she was never able to have kids and therefore finds it difficult to empathise with those who do. She's spoke on many occasions about her feeling of loss and missing out on being a mother. I also admire her for doing an almost impossible job while also having to inject insulin 5 times a day. And she also can't help the way she looks - she just happened to be born that way. But hey, keep abusing away if it makes you feel better dude. I still love ya either way

Indeed. If May was a dog (no jokes please), I'd say she'd never been socialised. She just doesn't seem to know how to behave with people. She's awkward and clumsy, and her posture sometimes seems to enhance that perception. You can't hold any of that against her though, how ever it might feed into your thoughts about her. There are reasons to be critical of her but her 'gawkiness' isn't really one of them.

The problem is that, as a nation, we've now forgotten all our horse and cart skills. One of my Granddads had a horse and cart (gave me a ride in it once), but sadly he's long gone. We'll have to set up new qualifications, BSc(Hons) in Equine Physiology & Applied Transport Methods, something like that. But it'll take several years before we have natives trained up for the job. It'll be good times for the travelling people given their strong commitment to the horse community. However, I can still see us needing to increase immigration from countries like Romania and Bulgaria, where they still have the relevant portfolio of skills:
lifted*fox Posted 26 June 2018 Share Posted 26 June 2018 unfortunately compassion and ability to win over your electorate is a big part of being PM. despite her unfortunate looks and inability to speak like a normal human being in public she's always had ****ed up policies even as home sec. to do with shit like data laws, etc. she holds old school oppressive views and that doesn't wash with me at all. so whilst I happily poke fun at her looks and traits - it's actually just a pretty deep dislike for what she stands for. she's riddled with a need for control and power over the people of this country - she wants a CCTV nanny-state and that ain't for me, at all - and shouldn't be for anyone who values their privacy and freedom. Over supply of labour creates cheap labour, the EU has done nothing to prevent this. Why do you blame the EU and not successive UK governments for failing to prevent cheap labour? I get it that full freedom of movement now applies and EU countries must allow other EU nationals to compete for jobs. But that's not the whole story, is it? When Poland and the other 9 countries joined the EU in 2004, existing EU members were allowed to restrict freedom of movement. They all did so, except the UK, Ireland and Sweden: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2004_enlargement_of_the_European_Union#Free_movement_issues The then Labour govt was criticised for that, with some justification - presumably part of the reason why it was among those that imposed the tightest restrictions when Romania & Bulgaria joined: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2007_enlargement_of_the_European_Union#Work_restrictions Even once full freedom of movement applied, there was an awful lot that the Tory govt could have done to prevent cheap migrant labour - but it didn't. - It could have funded the training of more British doctors/nurses. Instead it opted to cut taxes and import trained medical staff. Indeed, it eliminated bursaries for trainee nurses - while cutting corporation tax for big businesses, some of which benefit from cheap labour - and donate to party funds. - It could have invested in training & proper apprenticeships in areas with a skilled labour shortage (e.g. plumbers, some construction trades), but its initiatives were laughable - apprentice coffee shop assistants, anyone? - It could have legislated to tackle job/income security, which discourages people with financial commitments from certain sectors, but it didn't as it likes "flexible labour" (and big party donors profit from it) - It could have increased labour inspections to tackle illegal cheap labour. But it didn't. Instead, it reduced the number of labour inspections. - It could have legislated to force employers to advertise jobs locally and not just recruit cheap labour gangs from Eastern Europe, but it didn't. - It could have legislated to stop employers using the provision of accommodation/food to reduce the pay of such workers, but it didn't. - It could have launched initiatives to encourage British people to work in agriculture, care homes, catering etc, but it didn't - It could have made it a policy priority to promote cheaper housing & public transport, which would make some lower-paid jobs more viable, but it didn't. Cheap labour in the UK ain't just down to the EU.....
