Sheff Utd expanding to around 38,000. What the hell are we playing at.

More of a comparison is Selhurst Park that is becoming about 40,000.

No planning permission has gone in from us nor are we close to sealing the purchase of the electricity building. Maybe the owners are going to build a new stadium altogether?

I hope not, we could expand the current stadium if we pull our fingers out and get on with it :fc:

They've already said no to that haven't they?

If they've said no, then stick another tier on the Kop for now while the electricity building is sorted. Then the East stand can be expanded to how they want which im presuming is related to the land they've purchased behind (probably a huge stand with big facilities, car park, gym, casino etc)

Empty seats on tv all the time. Emirates Wednesday (& every week), Wembley Thursday (& every week). Big patches of empty seats at Watford, Man City, stoke most weeks. Even at the KP this season you can almost always see chunks of empty home seats.

You cant use Wembley as an example. WHL old 38k new 62k that will 99% sell out. Wembley 90k who would fill it? England don't and they have the whole country as a fan base. Infact spuds is a great example though to increase capacity. Last season 38k average this season 65k average. Amazing what spare capacity does for the average.

Double decker Kop is my dream scenario and would provide the perfect increase in capacity imo.

All about that double decker Kop life. My first game was in the second tier behind the goal at Filbert street. Truly beautiful.

Increase in capacity would be around 4-5,000 until the second tier corner to the bigger east stand was viable.

An increase of 5000 would be spot on. Would mean the majority of members could make the big games if they wanted to, and would allow families/groups of mates to sit together for the less popular games without gaping holes in the stands.

I'd say we're a similarly sized club to Sheff United, much bigger than Palace.

Says a lot that they're a smaller club and less stable in the PL at the moment, but pressing ahead with expansion plans that we don't seem to have the bottle to start ourselves.

Get on with it City.

Id say 6 years ago we were the same size as Sheff Utd but right now we are a different level to them. I'd class us as somewhere between Everton and West Ham in the 'clubs after the big 6' section.

Yeah Palace are still a championship club for me. League doesn't need another London club so they can sod off for all I carelol

Our fanbase is growing. Lets get this done.

If we can get that 40,000+ capacity we can attract fans from neighbouring counties who want to see PL football as the local big PL club. We have never been so dominate in the region and we should be looking at striking whilst the iron is hot especially as the cost of expanding has never been so relatively cheaper when you consider what it would cost compared to transfer fees and wages.

Exactly- we could get an extra 10k seats, and make the ground look a hell of a lot better in the process, for less than we paid for Slimani. The cost is basically an irrelevance under the current TV deal.

I’ve said this before on here, I live in Nuneaton and luckily enough have 3 season tickets for me and my sons. My youngest is 7 and the majority of his mates at school and for the football team he plays for don’t really support anyone. At his football training they all wear Real Madrid and Barcelona shirts and the obvious Liverpool and Man Utd. But the fact is because of the state of Coventry city so many lads of that age simply have no local team to go and support around here. I’ve lost count the amount of times other parents have asked me about getting tickets for city home games, but then I tell them about the membership and lack of availability. It’s now at a stage where a lot of families around my area are going to watch West Brom and Stoke games just so there kids get to see some premier league football. My lads school even does trips a couple of times a season to Stoke with cheap tickets. Families are also going to watch the wasps and Coventry blaze ice hockey team just so they can watch some live sport. We’re only half an hour down the road from Leicester but due to the limited availability of tickets so many kids and families are turning there attention elsewhere.

Tell them to bring their kids to the Fleetwood replay. £5 to get in.

Yeah I get what your saying, but midweek games for 7 year olds aren’t ideal at the best of times, let alone to watch our reserves against a league 2 side that will probably be shown on TV. Not quite the same appeal as a 3pm premier league game is it?

This kids want to be watching regular 1st team football and not our reavers team once or twice a season.

My lads initiation was in the FA Cup against Mansfield. Freezing cold and he loved it. He's been going ever since and was even a mascot when we moved over the road.

There has been several matches this season that non-members could have got in to. Just takes a bit of planning and effort.

Has to be better than ice hockey or rugger

Totally agree with you, me and my lads will be there against Fleetwood, they can’t get enough of it. But planning weeks and weeks in advance isn’t ideal for everyone. Just looked at our next home game against Watford and only singles left. A lot of people I speak to in my area want to be able to attend regularly. It’s ok taking your 7 year olds against Fleetwood, I’m sure they would love it, but then you have to tell them they can’t go agian until next season.

It's not about just building what we need now, it's about creating enough room to grow into. We need to accept empty seats

I'd agree 100%, we could still expand the East stand further if we were still rammo after expanding the Kop!
