I think Eavis and Lineker running into issues due to their soft support of Israel is a really good example of the huge change that's taken place in how political culture now plays out in our angry social media age. People of their age unsurprisingly struggle to get to grips with it.

I think it's played havoc with all age groups in its own way.

The Israeli Army is a horrific organisation with a long history of atrocities to inhumane behaviour.

So it's suddenly okay to openly call for the death of some 18-year-olds who just finished school and got drafted?

It’s time for us to be adults, recognise nuance and not get drawn into this utter filthy debate that aggressors from either side are doing.

Only for you to go and say this in your next paragraph. Ironic.

No. I’ve listened - my general listening is around 6music sort of level. Not a fan but I can see why some would.

I just find it a bit off that a band of their current size have been in a position to produce a film about their background. The name is purposely in bad taste. Therefore that’s always going to put them under a microscope

Welcomed their principal stand on Stella B and using their awarded money on both loyalists / republican charities

Fair enough, just hope a band chants about anti palestine just to even it all out then👍🏾

If that was to happen, I'd fundamentally disagree with the sentiment, but I'd defend their right to do it.

Would I personally chant "Death to the IDF"? No, I wouldn't. At that point, I'm not sure how productive it is and think it may generally be detrimental to the cause. A lot of people think that showing public support for Palestine is a waste of time and that ultimately nothing will change. That may well be the case, but what if everyone had that attitude throughout history? What possible change would ever have been achieved?

Try as I might, I cannot get my head around why anyone would be more angry about b****y Bob Vylan than the actions of the IDF in Gaza

Speaking personally I think the answer to that is quite self-evident, but stating it plainly would likely cause smoke that is not needed, so I won't.

I think the key is MORE angry.

I don't think people are more angry, but there's a section that's more vocal.

If the Chinese aren't already the world leaders in scientific research and development, they will be very shortly, and the UK might want to consider that very carefully when choosing who to partner with in the near future in terms of scientific projects.

I’d rather us stick with our closest allies

But how are they going to do this? Sounds like a problem with no solution.

The UK siding with the Chinese, who openly support Russia - how would that work, you've then got the Taiwan issue.

Certainly. A Commonwealth/Scandinavian/European alliance on scientific development would be quite something. :D

But in all seriousness, the UK may at some have to make a choice between joining one group that don't share many cultural and linguistic values but are pushing science forward in a way that is necessary to not only make the world a better place but also guarantee its survival, and sticking with another that shares at least some UK historical and cultural values, but also seems bound and determined to stagnate scientifically in a way that benefits no one, except maybe themselves in the short term.

Yeah, it's a proper conundrum, hence the thinking carefully.

A possible solution would be closer research ties with the above mentioned Commonwealth, European and Scandic nations - as a bloc that could bring enough power to mean something in terms of the world research field.

Ah, yes Mr O'Reilly, well it's perfectly simple. When I asked you to build me a wall I was rather hoping that instead of just dumping the bricks in a pile you might have found time to cement them together... you know, one on top of another, in the traditional fashion

Our next DoF with any luck.

Obviously there is some hypocrisy going on but at the same time - advocating to perpetrate violence while also complaining about violence are some incredible mental gymnastics by Bobby.

Same goes for Putins genocidal war on Ukraine. I'm very much opposed to it and I wish Russia would lose while paying a hefty price but you won't find me actively chanting for the death of soldiers, a lot of whom were simply dragged out of their families' home, drafted and sent into the meatgrinder to please their maniac of a leader. We're no better if we start dehumanising one/ the other side just because we feel we're in a morally superior position.
