I've been to plenty of NFL games at Wembley and Spurs stadium and people constantly getting up and down and disturbing everyone in the row to fetch more beer is indeed a PITA. Especially when those games go on for 3 hours. 

 

It'd be much more an issue than any potential trouble. People already drink plenty at footy games in the pub before, then on in the concourse before, at HT and after the game too. I don't think it'd create that much more trouble once the novelty wore off.

Duration of a football match. Surely not asking too much to go without alcohol for this. Agree terrible idea. I know watching us can be torture but booze won't help you

Mate I've been going to rugby all my life and it's not a problem. 

 

Those NFL games are a bad example because that's just the novelty. It's a day out for people. 

 

When you're a season ticket holder and you're down the match every week or every other week it's just not a big issue. You'll get a beer take it to your seat then just watch the game.

Definitely agree if the beer continues to be the piss water served in most football grounds.

Tbh I don't really get the point of drinking before and during the match. 3pm Saturday match. They get on it early afternoon, pretty pissed by the time they're there, carry on through the game. How much of the game are they actually taking in? Are the droves heading home 5 mins before the end actually just racing to the urinals?  Maybe I just can't handle day drinking these days but I've never really got it. I tried it once and I swear I was smashed and had popped the piss cork by half time

I think you should be allowed to take a pint up pre game and half time but not allowed to go down during the match

I think some Brits have a strange attitude to alcohol. Akin to putting young kids unattended in a sweet shop. Don't know when to stop or overdo it just because they can

Met a guy through work who was a City fan so we decided to attend the next match together.

For me, I always got to the stadium about 10 before the KO and by the time I was through the turnstile and in my seat, the players would be coming out.

With this fella though, as I went to go to my seat, he said needed a pint first, no matter kick-off was imminent.

It became quickly apparent, drinking was part and parcel of going to a match and couldn't be separated.

We never attended together again.

Takes all sorts I guess.

You forget that the NFL is basically the optimum stadium atmosphere for the people that run English football.

Agreed. You’d have kids buying £6.70 bottles of carlsberg solely to throw in the air to film on TikTok. Horrendous thought

Drinking with your mates is fun. Often the game itself is boring as sin. The drunker you are, the less you have to endure.

Ages since I've watched a game in a pub, but when I did, I felt I had an obligation to drink something, to give some fiscal reward to the landlord for having the match on.

 

Having said that, I could nurse a pint for nearly two hours.

Almost, the secret is taking in a large coffee cup and transferring my beer into that so I can drink discreetly at leisure during the game.
