I'd also drop Chilwell for Fuchs (when fit) and Mahrez for Gray.

foxinsocks Posted 24 September 2017 Posted 24 September 2017 There is alot of talk on ft about different formations..... i just dont think it is in craigs mind right now. I like utds 433 and given craigs cautious ways i think that is more likely if he moves from 422... but i doubt he will
st albans fox Posted 24 September 2017 Posted 24 September 2017 Sorry but imo, you're missing the point. The idea of three at the back (3-5-2) is to enable a three man midfield without having just one up top. You have mahrez as one of the midfield three. Therefore, physically we still have a two man midfield and worse still we only have a three man defence behind them! You might get away with it against the bottom half clubs at the KP but away from home that team would be even more brittle.
Guest CityFan 06 Posted 24 September 2017 Posted 24 September 2017 We definitely need another formation to use. 3-5-2 has proven it can work, and that's one of the formations which would probably suit us.

Eh, it's pretty much what we played in the great escape to devastating effect. I'd be more worried about the lack of a Cambiasso esque player in that CM pairing to spread play.
Guest Posted 24 September 2017 Posted 24 September 2017 At home or against teams with just the one striker: 2:6:2 or we could still call it 4:4:2 or we could call it 2:5:2:1 Kasper Maguire +CB (Huth/Morgan/Dragon) Albrighton Ndidi Silva Iborra Chilwell Mahrez/Gray Okazaki Vardy

Not sure he started many of the others that mattered in that run. You could play Okazaki as the third midfielder but I think riyad is too lightweight in that central area of the pitch.

Nick Posted 25 September 2017 Posted 25 September 2017 I thought Shakespeare's 2 6 1 formation was interesting at the weekend.

RonnieTodger Posted 25 September 2017 Posted 25 September 2017 I'd try 4-3-3 with Mahrez and Gray either side of Vardy. Harsh on Okazaki and Albrighton, but something has to change.

It is time to unleash Gray and let Mahrez ponder thinking himself to be a world class footballer who has lost the ability to do anything of significance on a football pitch. If you go 3-5-2 it has to be Kasper Maguire Morgan Dragovich/Fuchs Albrighton Iborra King N'Didi Chillwell Vardy Shinji/Ian
BrummieFOX Posted 25 September 2017 Posted 25 September 2017 3-5-2 or 5-3-2 woudn't allow for either Mahrez or Gray to play. Or if you do play them, we'd still only have 2 in midfield which I think is the main reason everyone wants a formation change. It seems 4-3-3 is the only other option which would change the way we're playing. Or perhaps 4-2-3-1?
Guest TheBear Posted 25 September 2017 Posted 25 September 2017 A hybrid of 3-4-3 would work with the personnel we currently have: Kasper Maguire Morgan Dragovic/Fuchs Albrighton Chilwell Iborra Ndidi Okazaki Gray/Mahrez Vardy I think this would give us better defensive cover and allow us the attack down the wings, with Okazaki and he work rate linking midfield and attack and the freedom and flair of Gray or Mahrez to support us in attack. Would also allow us to use the attacking qualities of Chilwell with a little extra cover and get Albrighton on his favoured right hand side. Finally, if we are chasing the game would also allow a couple of subs to bolster the attack, or if we are winning to sure up the middle.
DelBoy73 Posted 25 September 2017 Posted 25 September 2017 Since he insist in playing with two DM, we should go 4-2-3-1.
DelBoy73 Posted 25 September 2017 Posted 25 September 2017 Simpsons Chilwell Iborra Ndidi Mahrez/Gray Okazaki/Ihenacho Albrighton Vardy This would work if Shakespear trains Okazaki & Inehacho to remain deep and roam in the midfield.

I would like to see this but just can't see us ever playing 1 up front having signed all these strikers Which is obviously not how you should make decisions but there we are
ZeGuy Posted 25 September 2017 Posted 25 September 2017 Can't wait to see us going 4-4-2 against ManCity.

On what Universe does the above offer us "better" defensive cover? We still have two central midfielders v 3 and three natural wide players in a formation that doesn't require wingers
