if only it was as simple as that. If you can explain how Albrighton & Simpson have never been called up then i might be with you. Your cant tell me that the top 4 and their 'shirt sellers' arent favoured? I would pretty much name the England squad for the world cup now!

Can you honestly say Albrighton and Simpson have been unfairly treated because they've never been called up? England simply have better players in their positions.

yeah i would say they were. There was no body better than them two in their posisitions in our league winning season.

Just look at the state of the squad that we had in the last round of games. Livermore, Henderson, The Ox......?? Our own manager came out and said they dont deserve their places in the squad, why not pick players in form (i'm not refereing to our players here) Shelvey, Lewis Cook, Ben Mee even Tom Cleverley who is having a great seaosn at Watford.

I am willing to bet that Drinkwater will be in the squad for the world cup now he has made his move to Chelsea.

I'm pleased if he is signing a new deal but I won't get carried away. I still believe he needs to improve especially in away games. Sometimes his postioning can be suspect but there is potential there. It will be interesting if he plays at stoke and how he goes. Imo he will continue to be in and out the side.

I must say I agree with goose.  When we won the league, Albrighton and Simpson played pretty much every single game.  They literally did something so remarkable that it will never be forgotten.  They both played a huge part in the greatest footballing story ever told.  And who got called up?  Wilshere.

Are we saying Albrighton would have become our greatest player?  Of course not.  But not to even be given one chance, just one cap even to see how he did, after what he achieved that season?  How on earth is that not unfair?  And also, what message does it send out?  What more could he have done?  What does it say to English players about the England squad?  It says play as well as you want but you will have more chance of playing for England if you play for a big team, even if you rarely play.

I feel for Albrighton, after THAT season England really did miss a trick by not including a few more of our players in the squad.  Instead they relied on a bunch of Tottenham players who had just completely choked the league and looked broken (and that is not to slate Kane and Alli, they are both wonderful players).  They could have bottled some of what he had going into that tournament.  I honestly believe that if we had played Albrighton, Drinkwater and, yes, even Simpson, we would have done better than we did.

Anyway, we love you Marc.

Personally I'd have Kyle Walker and Nathaniel Clyne way ahead of Simpson.

Albrighton is a poor man's Milner and Sterling and Oxlade-Chamberlain are ahead of him too.

But if you two want to think they've been unfairly treated because they play for Leicester and Vardy, Drinkwater and Maguire are the exceptions then we'll just have to agree to disagree. Personally I don't think England are any worse off for not promoting Simpson and Albrighton to the squad.

The fact that Milner has spent two years playing at right back, why you are even comparing him to Albrighton i dont know. Oxlade-Chamberlain has done nothing for years....well ever apart from play for Arsenal.

I am not just saying Leicestert players are, all players that wont sell shirts for the FA are.

Milner only plays there because he's versatile but his preferred and best position is right midfield. Oxlade-Chamberlain has got a £35m move to Liverpool after rejecting contracts from Chelsea and Arsenal so there is at least four managers who rate him above Albrighton if you include Southgate.

I think you're being paranoid if you truly believe the FA have instructed the England manager to not select his best players because of shirt sales.

Albrighton and Simpson haven't been selected because they aren't an improvement on the squad and with their ages and skill set aren't deemed worth persevering with to improve the squad in the future. If Chilwell and Gray keep getting selected for Leicester I'm sure they'll be called up to the England squad soon enough as they'll be regular first team PL players who are young enough to improve considerably.

Completely agree. I'm a bit bitter about it but they more or less totally snubbed us despite what we'd achieved (Drinkwater not going over Wilshere was an absolute disgrace) to the point I didn't care how they did. Even so I didn't think it could go quite THAT badly.

Oxlade-Chamberlain totally sums up the England squad selection process. No-one knows where he plays, what he's done on the pitch in the last couple of years, yet he bags his big money move to Liverpool and as a result jumps straight back into the set up.

Like Vardy, Drinkwater and Maguire? If our players are good enough they get picked, simple as that.

Drinky didn't get picked for the Euros?

Back to the topic if that's OK....I sincerely hope Gray does sign another lengthy contract without release clauses etc, he has shown us recently that he has matured somewhat with his game and can do a meaningful and skilful job that will have other Prem teams drooling over him. I do wish he'd stay away from the social media side of things a bit more, but that's probably more my problem in accepting what kids do social media wise today than theirs in doing it. Can see him being a fixture in the full England side in the not too distant future.

We were told that he withdrew from the squad with injury issues

He got picked for previous England squads though.

Rightly or wrongly Drinkwater wasn't selected for football reasons not because of shirt sales or because he played for Leicester.

Milner hasnt played right sided midfield for Liverpool in what 4 years?

I honest think you are being a little naive in thinking that England players get picked on performance it hasnt been like that for years. If it was Albrighton and Simpson would have surely been in the squad??

Chillwell and Gray wont get called up why we are a mid premiership team.

I think your naive for thinking the England manager has been told he's not allowed to pick his best players by the FA or he just refuses to pick his best players.

I don't agree with every England squad but I don't think the FA or the England manager knowingly select inferior players for commercial reasons. Do you not think it's conceivable that the powers that be just think Simpson and Albrighton aren't an improvement rather there being a conspiracy theory to not select them? We already know they're prepared to select Vardy, Maguire and Drinkwater. It's not like there is a fan and media outrage because Albrighton and Simpson are overlooked.

As good as Simpson has been defensively I don't think he would ever get called up for England because going forward he is limited. I think Clyne and Walker are both weaker defensively but they are more rounded players and I don't think at all hard to see why Simpson didn't get picked.

Albrighton on the other hand I think should genuinely have been in the set up. He was fantastic in the title season and anyone who watched us would have to have been blind to have missed his contribution going forward and defensively. Chamberlain is talented but what has he actually done on the pitch to merit a spot? He's rarely held down a starting spot at Arsenal and his been moved around loads. I'm sure a few months back Southgate even said as much as he doesn't pick his players based on form all the time. If it were based on form the England squad would change far more frequently than it has.

I don't think players get picked on shirt sales but there is definitely an in built big-club bias. I think it's a subconscious thing more than anything though. I don't think our recent managers have deliberately not picked players outside the big clubs; they are just so fixated with the big clubs they fail to give other players a proper chance.

I mean really, how much could it have hurt to give Albrighton one game?

I don't think that's saying a lot tbh. I don't think you have to have much potential at all to be in the England. I'm not being tongue in cheek, there are some shockingly average players that are picked for years.

Unfortunately for Gray though, it doesn't matter if he's the best player in England for the next 7 months, he still might not go because he only plays for Leicester.

Exactly this

corrupt old boys network “big club” shitty England

if they had a decent “impartial” manager they might pick the right players
