Hatem Ben Arfa under Claude Puel

Back in the 15/16 season, Ben Arfa had the season of his life for OCG Nice, playing under Claude Puel before moving to PSG where he is today. Personally, I thought that he was the best dribbler in the world that season, surpassing even Messi and Neymar in that respect. Here's a video to showcase his 15/16 season if you aren't familiar with him:

Yup, he did all that in one season.

However, he didn't get too many opportunities last season with PSG and with the arrival of Mbappe and Neymar, he has virtually no place in the squad. He seems really interested to move to Leicester in January to reunite with Puel and recapture this form. Personally, I think that his type of penetration is exactly that we need. Lightning quick and also through the center.

A potential 4-2-3-1 lineup with him:

--------------------Vardy------------------------

Gray------------Mahrez------------Ben Arfa

------------Iborra--------Ndidi-----------------

Chillwell---Maguire---Morgan---Simpson

-----------------Schmeichel-------------------

Looks pretty darn solid to me.

What do you guys think? Also, please make sure to support this transfer if it's going to happen.

Doubt we'd pay the wages he'll be on at PSG. And he was meant to be joining Puel at Southampton last season and that never happened so i can't see it.

according to http://www.totalsportek.com/money/psg-salaries/, he's only on 75k and is running out of a contract at PSG. Also, he just got the best season of his life. Could you blame him for choosing PSG over Southampton? Also, he didn't want to come back to England then because he didn't do well with Newcastle. He's now changing his mind because of Puel.

that's like the most boring type of penetration though

Surely he'd play behind Vardy, leaving Mahrez out wide?

They can constantly change positions making them harder to mark but yeah, he can play behind or out wide. Puel knows him best so he can decide that.

you do realize that Kante used to dribble through the center immediately after winning the ball for counter-attacks?

I've put money on him joining in January. I don't think we need him but given that we can get him for no transfer fee for the rest of the season with no commitment to buy, and that he and Puel get on so well, it's an inevitability in my mind. If he works out, fantastic and if it doesn't, it's not the end of the world. Right now he's literally playing with the PSG reserves and Emery has told him he has zero chance of playing in the first team.

Whether or not he comes good for us I don't know, but I think it's a low risk option that could have massive upside. The guy is a match-winner. Totally inconsistent, but also capable of the absolutely sublime. Chasing a game with 10 minutes to go? Perfect player to throw on and see what happens. I don't think he'd upset the dressing room either because Puel will now how to handle him.

What's going on with Ben Arfa? I've seen the talk about him rise again in the last few days, anything happened?

can't see this happening in a million years but it'd be awesome if it did.

gets his head down, runs at everything and the ball sticks to his feet like glue.

would help us move forward with pace. other teams wouldn't have a ****ing clue who to mark.

Wow one season in about ten. He's a c unt with a shite attitude, stay f ucking clear. If he does sign bookmark this post waiting for the day that will never come when you can say "told you so".

He might be a good player who wants to be re-united with Puel, but is he really needed? In the team suggested at the top of the post, Silva has been omitted but he will  be playing. Provided we keep Mahrez, better to spend on a striker or defender; positions where we need to strengthen

Ben Arfa is a quality player who can fill any of the creative / attacking roles but as already mentioned on this thread is inconsistent. Could be worth a punt on a short term contract if Mahrez decides to do one in January.

He seems really interested in a move to Leicester?

Not sure where you got that from 1) It’s highly unlikely he would ever return to England and 2) He only wants to play for a team in the Champions league

Never going to happen.

Without meaning to sound too critical, it's a no from me. The lineup is fookin shoite - complete lack of balance.

3 dribblers in the same team is overkill - passing would be too slow and we'd hardly be able to play nice, fast football with such a ball hog. Don't even get me started on work rate.

And another thing, against the top teams, since we're likely to only start one of Gray and Mahrez against the top teams (Okazaki's work rate is pretty much needed) where does Ben Arfa fit in there?

Only option is that you bring him in as a replacement for Gray - in which case, no thanks!
