Best Away Day

Recommended Posts

Forest 3-2 last min Knockaert, WBA 3-2 last min Vardy, basically winning 3-2 away in the last min is quite fun innit.

Shout out to Copehagen away, awful match and atmosphere, great two days on the larger.

Was scenes when Mahrez scored in the 2-2 at Forest away after Phillips missed the peno.

Also 2-2 at Bolton Micky Adams era, last minute WEVE GOT LES FERDINAND.

Worst away ever, 4-3 Wolves.

You reckon? I'm somewhere between both of you on this. Remember it being worse than expected but not THAT bad.

It was a great away in the terms of the build up, the sheer volumes of city fans going on the trains, the pubs before hand and opening 10 minutes. We were fairly bad after that but the scenes when Morgan scored were class. Inflatable sheep everywhere.

Remember Scunthorpe being a fairly decent away day, Mainly due to the fact their was a Samuel Smiths pub which was about £1 a pint.

I always enjoy Newcastle away most seasons, easy ground to get to, enough pubs before kick off to chose and always found the Geordies I have spoken to a friendly bunch.

Remember going to a Friendly at Scunthorpe at the Old Showground in 1969 when the old song 'Chips and Beans on a tray on a tray' was first sung.

Most of the League One games were great. Hereford, Southend, Bristol Rovers, Huddersfield, Leyton Orient, Scunthorpe, even Millwall.

Huddersfield in 2014, Nottingham Forest in 2013 too. I really enjoyed Derby in 2011 when we took the piss with Yakubu, even the Poznan was respectable.

What a great thread and what great memories. Just look how far we've come in such a relatively short space of time - incredible. Looking back on where we were and where we've been these really are glory times at the moment and I really hope we don't ever become complacent or entitled as a fan base...

Previously - Grimsby away, Impey sent off, down to 10 and then Muzzy goes and scores the winner with one of the best goals in our clubs history.

Recent times, 1-0 away win at Palace, the day actually felt we would win the league. Fans stayed for a while after final whistle singing were gonna win the league. Still get goosebumps now from the youtube clips.

This is one of my favourites. A boozed up day in London, 8500 City fans down round side of the ground all standing, a noisy and very boisterous crowd, mini pitch invasion, and stranded in London. I think every one of the 8500 lost their shit that night.

Good shout. I was there, about 13 years old. What a night. They had wooden benches we were jumping up and down on, when Graysons goal went in it was utter pandemonium, thought the benches were gonna break lol.

If you were to set out an Away Day Criteria then Brugge effectively could not be beaten. However, for pure joy and pound for pound possibly the best result I can remember in 40 years of following us it has to be Man City away in 2016.

Spot on

Derby when we beat them 4-0 at Pride Park in 98, unfortunately we weren't in the away end, my Dad bagged some tickets in a box through a work mate or something, so we couldn't really go nuts when the goals went in, but i'm sure we must have looked extremely smug as most of the folk around us were derby fans.

To cap the day off we were stood outside the ground at the end and my Dad being my Dad thought he'd make a tongue in cheek remark when Emile Heskey came over and stood like an absolute tower right in front of us as it started to rain.... donning huge gold chains around his neck my Dad quipped "Emile, you better get out the rain before your chains go rusty"

Emile didn't laugh.

lol lol

Loads to choose from and apart from the Wembley trips most of mine have already been mentioned.

Notts County ZDS, as a young lad and first real season of travelling to away games with my mates. The soccer special train there, getting absolutely drenched, getting smacked in the head by a stray ball in the warm-up when I wasn’t looking, plus the abuse the Notts groundsman got at halftime/extra time. Brilliant.

Wimbledon in the semi-final 2nd leg. After getting completely lost on the way there, still never heard an away end as loud as we were that night.

Blackburn. Bring on the Rooster! Kenny’s gone and fu@£ed it up again! Standing knee deep in sporting blue shreds thinking finally this is going to be our year. (Thanks Mr Speedie).

Barnsley promotion year. My sons first ever away game with me, we were so superior I could actually stand and enjoy the game with no nerves for a change. ‘There’s only 1 Steven Dawson’!

Although it was only a draw, coming back from 0-3 down to get a 4-4 draw at Villa Park in 1995 felt like a win.

Mad celebrations!

That was nuts.

I was in the Doug Ellis stand that night with my old man and some of his work mates who were Villa ST holders. I obviously kept quiet as we kept conceding and then ended up not being able to contain myself as we came back into it. When our forth went in I went mental and a load of Villa jumped over seats to get at me. My Dad, his mates and some stewards had to stop them and it all kicked off and I ended up getting escorted out just before the final whistle for my own safety. Our away end looked the happiest I've ever seen it that night :)

We ended up going for a curry in Brum after and sat on a table next to Mark Bosnich and his missus. What a bizarre night!

83 Fulham

This for me...when Ian Wilson scored, the travelling fans went berzerk. Again already mentioned, West Brom away 2015 - Vardy's goal which really triggered the Great Escape.

Two more, League Cup replay at Hillsborough and Atletico Madrid 1997.

In 84-85 and 85-86 I went to 70% of away games - every time you travel, irrespective of how dull the game is, there is always a unique memory an anecdote or a story to tell which is why this is such an interesting thread. Derby County play off final, (another favourite), coming home, I remember pulling into the Toddington Services and inexplicably Marco Gabbiadini was there. Why he'd driven home himself (or was driven) is beyond me. I guess he's stopped for a piss or a coffee but unsurprisingly he was getting stick off the Leicester fans. It was all quite amiable though and fair play to him, he took it very well.

Oh the memories are just flooding back now :)

On the way down the M1 once (I think it was the Derby match but they all blur into one now) we stopped at Toddington and there were hundreds of Leicester there. We went for a piss and it was rammed and Frankie Wortho was in there having a slash. The whole place broke out into "There's only one Frankie Wortho" chant and he was loving it. Apart from when he turned around in amusement and accidentally peed all over his lovely brown brogue shoes :D

The Wimbledon semi in cup was immense. Always remember Steve Claridge involuntarily hugging ME as I walked past him screaming my head off. Joyous night. But I don’t think I’ve ever witnessed anything like Brisbane Road in May 1980. Astonishing. Three million city fans squeezed into about ten square metres of terracing - maybe a slight exaggeration .... possibly only two million. A truly insane event. I think about that day more than most in my days of following football.

I was in the Trent End at Forest when Mahrez scored. Hard not to celebrate. I was with a blind friend and I had to give a running commentary.
