In my local, a pint of stonewall has been reduced to £3 a pint. When I asked why I was told “ cos you’re the only f**ker that drinks it “.

personally , I’d class that as a result

Off down London for a couple of gigs with a mate in October and want to book some cheap digs as London prices these days are ridiculous.

Looking at Travel lodges just outside the centre where there is a good pub culture.

Whitechapel a decent shout? Battersea? Bermondsey? Clapham?

Going Brixton and Ally Pally for gigs but not bothered about sitting on tube for a spell.

There's some great pubs in The City provided you're staying midweek so Whitechapel isn't the worst shout. It's totally dead at the weekend though

Went to the Old Horse. Was well excited that they had Wherry on by Woodfordes. I had one sip, tasted like something you’d put on your chips in Norfolk, rather than having with them. Beautiful collective pubs showing time after time, they can’t keep cask beer.

Could just be end of the cask.

Probably more likely the locals don't drink enough of it.

Yes, looking at the clientele in the pub, I think I was the only one who wouldn’t be drinking a crap lager or Pinot.

The food isn’t that great either. The pizzas are incredibly stodgy. Lovely garden but not keen on the internal refurb.

Sadly most people like to drink absolute shite.

Hard to keep cask good with little throughput, wasteful.

Cask is just such a superior product when it's good but people are brainwashed lager drones these days.

Going to go against the grain here a bit – I find Mr Beautiful Pubs efforts bland as **** but I actually like the refurb (for the most part) of the Old Horse, I never thought the interior before had any particular charm. Some of the spaces / rooms look great, not overly modernised and not all painted grey. No neon signage or "husband creche" bollocks. They've proper reduced the amount of space in front of the bar though for some reason so it all feels a bit tight.

Went to Bar Dos the other week and it was good to see the breakfasts back on pre COVID form.

Also gave the Kings Head in Smeeton Westerby a bash last weekend, lovely little pub.

I think because they can drink it quickly and more of it (because usually less flavour (especially the chilled stuff) and lower alcohol content, people think they're getting more drunk and can brag about how many pints they've had. So they go for Dishwater Black Label or ice cold cerveza. Most of those people have never tried anything else :dunno:

You'd rarely down a really nice ale in one or two goes. Needs to be savoured.

Don't get me started in Strongbow. I like cider, which is why I don't like Strongbow.

Calling Liverpool experts.

I've just realised the WC final is on the same Sunday as the final of the open golf which I am attending.

Any recommendations for where to watch the footy?

The Denbigh Castle just off Dale Street is s decent place to watch a game.

There's also a cracking pub nearby worth a visit, ye hole in the wall but not sure if they'll have the football.on in there.

Ask them how much for the whole keg.

The nearest pub to Whitechapel tube station is the infamous Blind Beggar. I went there for a pint once on the way to a game at West Ham

Awful boozer though. Couldn't have looked less "East End gangster" inside if it tried.

Used to be the case most of the pubs would close at the weekend. More stay open now because of tourism and the gentrifiers moving into the East End. Worth checking the fbook group London Pubs as they often have posts on good pubs in distinct areas.

I don't remember what it was like, it was 1998 (last game of the season)
