I will not slag the Beautiful Pub Collective because it is independent to Leicester, a good employer and not a bad place for a stop on a crawl.
I was very sad about the Salmon changing internally. However, I am glad the Old Horse has changed hands. The Salmon was unique in Leicester for a horseshoe bar(anachronistic certainly) but also was historic type of pub layout that needed preserving. BCA are standardising their estate. The interior of the Old Horse and its Garden, were a mess. Charming for an odd drink but held no value. As long as it is preserved as a drinking whole, no problem for me. I know it will hold some historic/social value for UFS members.

As for Deano pubs. One benefit of living and drinking in the city, you don’t get those types midweek. We don’t do David Wilson homes, velvet settees and white BMWs. Unfortunately, there will be many at the football from the county tomorrow.

Lynch the deano!!!! Someone get him!! Dirty deano!!

I have a master's degree and speak different languages, but don't own my own house and have no skills that are really useful to society. So I am the antithesis of the Deano. However they don't live close enough for me to really dislike them and most of the local pubs I go to are frequented by farmers and minor royals, not instagramming fake nailed Deanettes. And deep down, like most English bourgeois intellectuals, I'm a little bit envious of them.

Went Salmon yesterday for one before getting the bus back - young @Stadt was in there as well. It was bloody lovely to see a pub packed out with not just a variety of sports fans but the older generation taking time to have a couple.

Ulster fans were well represented pretty much everywhere. Not very often City and tigers fans are around on the same day

One positive of the refurb is that it has got good room for standing.

Does anywhere do non alcoholic beer on tap in town?

Usually go the castle or ninebar but don't think either do

Im sure ninebar has a spanish zero percent on.

Tonne might I reckon plus maybe even QoB as they have a lot of taps.

Great to see the City so busy on Saturday.

Did Blue Boar, Kings Head, Castle, R & D, Salmon and the Ale Wagon, all either standing room only or very limited seats. Lovely.

I got into the Kings Head at 11.30 on Saturday, standing room only.

Ulster fans definitely added to the economy, drinking for Ireland with over 8 hours to their K.O. time.

Sorry, another non-Leicester post, but I went and did the pub quiz at 1912 Sileby Club last week. Seems like a nice place - darts team/boards going on at the same time.

Never even been to Sileby before but a friend moved there so popped along for it. Seemed like a really friendly atmosphere on the face of it.

Go there fairly often as a friend plays darts there, it is decent I would agree

Had one in The Hind before getting on my train last night. Easily the busiest Ive seen the place under it's most recent landlords, decent mix of all sorts in there with football fans, commuters and international students on the pool table.

The pint was pretty decent too

They must be doing a bit better with there being an absolute dearth of pubs by the train station. What's happened to Steamin Billy these days? Looks like they've got rid of all their pubs apart from the Cow and Plough in Oadby.

Pretty much sold/let out all their stock after the PY forced closure, not sure if it was related. I know somebody who works for them so next time I see them I'll ask.

In better news, the Brew Dog unit had tradesmen in doing something last night, couldn't tell what.

Maybe I missed it here but I read elsewhere that the Bowling Green has shut.

"An historic inn, originally the 'Old Bowling Green'. Dating mostly from the 18th century, this is a Grade 2 Listed Building. One of the oldest pubs in Leicester, this was formerly owned by the All Saints Brewery (Leicester), then by Ind Coope Brewery of Burton from 1929."
