Kudos to the owners. The club is bigger than a player. Chairman will put the arm around the shoulder their their Riyad here's 5 mill to keep quiet and stop sulking.

He'll be back in 2/3 weeks like nothing has happened.

I don't think time will tell, all we'll see is what happens with Mahrez and not the benefits (or even negatives) of being known as hard bargainers, someone not to be messed with and someone who doesn't cave in at the first sign of someone going on strike.

Let him walk for less than market value after a strop and players will see a weakness.

What if Maguire wants to go for £30m or Vardy £5m, or N'didi £20m and they know all they have to do is throw a wobbly. Players now know, disrespecting the club and acting like a child gets you nowhere. Only a bid that matches pur valuation like DD's will mean a move gets sanctioned.

I think it's important fo stand your ground now and again, whether that means a sulky player or making less money come summer.

It's not just one wobbly though is it this has been going on for some time now, simple business decision this one and keeping him around is not one i intend to give the owners plaudits for  until I view it as worthwhile.

I wouldn't be surprised to see him sign a new contact this month with a release fee of about £75m, £150k a week for 3.5 years.

That way Mahrez knows the club can't change the goalposts again on his valuation and it motivates him to end the season well to interest the elite clubs. Us offering him £150k a week also strengthens our hand that we value him as a £75m+ player.

That would be the best compromise I think.

Wont happen I don't think, the club will be aware there's every chance by the time someone activates that release clause it could actually be worth significantly less than it is now if the market gets inflated again. Besides we want 90.

Most likely scenario IMO is we agree a deal for the summer, and keep it quiet like Soton did with VVD - gives us time to line up a replacement.

Puel had experience of dealing with Van Dijk last season so this sort of situation is nothing new to him.

I would have sold if we got £60m plus, but we shouldn't have to accept less because Mahrez goes into unprofessional mode.

It will become the norm for players to insist on a release clause/ conditions when signing for a new club or signing new contracts.

Its not the days of Martin George and Shipman where they sold as needed to. Nearly all clubs have wealthy owners and do not need to sell, so it will only be the dross or possibly unwanted prospects that move unless for silly money.

The player does not receive a great deal of the transfer fee, its in their interest when negotiating wages to go for little, even free.

Whilst the players were happy to sign contracts their movements are restricted and in Mahrez case he has gone from £400K to £60 million

As a LCFC supporter I say he should be forced to stay and play unless a club met the current value set by similar signings. As a visionary!!! I think sometime in the future rather than market price, a structure of assessing a players value will be implemented.

There won't be less than 60M (if he still plays well) but never 90M.

Think of Riyad Mahrez as an oil painting, bought at a country auction for £0.4 million.  Quite a tidy sum, until the painting goes to Sotheby's who declare it to be a Rembrant and value it at £60 million.  That represents a 150 fold increase in value.  What could you do with a windfall of £60 million?  On a purely footballing level, Riyad was a very important factor during the "Season of Seasons" and helped to make our collective dream come true.  We owe him a little more respect.  Whilst growing up in France he probably dreamt of playing for a top football team - Real Madrid, Barcelona, Juventus, Liverpool, Man U.  I doubt he ever dreamt of playing for Leicester City.  Why, then, should the owners deny him the chance to continue his development as a player when he has done so much to raise City's profile in the footballing world?  At Premier League level it is not about the money, it is about the desire to play with and against the best players on the planet.  Why not say, "Thanks for everything and good luck for the future" and then rejoice when he scores the winner in the Champions League final, basking in the reflected glory that he once strode the KP with pride?  There is very little grass roots loyalty in this globalised football system.  Players come and go, forever chasing the ultimate contract.  Kante and Drinkwater went, bringing in many millions more to invest. Riyad is simply doing the same.  Gary Lineker's CV goes something like City, Everton, Barcelona, Spurs.  Nobody calls him a selfish so and so for bettering himself.  It might not have been pleasant to see Riyad in a sky blue shirt but they wouldn't let him go to Roma last Summer in what would have been a much more dignified transition.  It would be marvellous if the management could sit the young man down, ask him where he wants to go, get his agent to do the leg work and then attach a transfer fee which would secure his chance of fulfilling his dream.  He gave us something priceless, in return all we are offering is bitterness.

In the current climate and situation players like Mahrez demand a large transfer price. Man City have that money but do not either want to spend it on him or because they don't value him as much as the market suggests.

He can go if they pay the price.

Lineker was sold, he did not ask to be sold.

Kante had a get-out clause, Drinkwater wanted to go after hearing of Chelsea's interest and was sold for what Leicester believed him to be worth and Chelsea would pay, seeing him on the bench we were about right.

My house has gone up X 5 to what I bought it for. I wouldn't sell it for less because somebody fancies living here

Great Idea - this has lifted my depression that we were trapped in a nightmare hiatus .Hope Rudders picks up on your solution.

We didn’t. We rejected 4 consecutive bids. Saying he’s not for sale wasn’t their plan, he could leave for the right price. They didn’t make a significant enough offer, so they didn’t sell.

Do you really think we will get more than 60m in the summer?

Even at 60m his transfer would have been the best return on

investment in the history of the PL.

I mean, we paid just 450k for him. Our owners shouldn't

become too greedy.

I doubt they're thinking of money. They want to keep him so Leicester get into Europe. When Leicester get into Europe, they'll be even more attractive to a player, thus, raising the amount of decent footballers Leicester could buy, finding a decent replacement for Mahrez. If we miss out on Europe, then we're not really a step up over the likes of Everton, Southampton, Stoke, etc.

Those are my 0.02

What we paid is completely irrelevant.

I can half understand Mahrez’s frustration that he was promised he could go if an acceptable offer came in for him. I doubt he would’ve discussed figures with the club’s hierarchy but £65m would’ve been more than enough in the summer but it just isn’t now. It’s not his fault the market has inflated and it’s going to keep on inflating so he must be wondering if he’ll ever get a move! However his mate said that he has been trying to leave for “the last 4 transfer windows” which includes the summer window in which he signed a new deal. If he was trying to leave why the **** did the moron sign a new deal? ?

Greed is always a bad advisor.

Mahrez is 26, but, so far, he has played only one

outstanding season. Not two, not three. Just ONE!!

60m was a fair offer. Last summer we would have

been very happy about 50m.

Greedy, GREEDY? they want to give us European football, they're trying to give us a  higher profile, they'll have to try and find someone to replace Riyadh, how much do you think they'll have to pay to get that? How's about we give our owners a little bit of respect, they make the decisions and often make us better for it.

Absolute rubbish.

If I buy an oil painting from a car boot sale for £5 and then find out it's a Van Gogh should I be happy to sell for £1m when it's worth is £50m?

What you pay for something is irrelevant, its what something is worth that matters.

Arsenal signed Aubameyang for just 56m.

Do you really think Mahrez is more valuable

than a man, who  scored 141 goals for

Borussia Dortmund in 4 years?
