Hindsight is a wonderful thing. The owners weren't to know he would react like this.

lol i guess,

but the dickhead did drive himself to charles de Gaul last time though.

pisses me off that these people are allowed to get away with this if i just didn't report into my job, i would be sacked.

True but it's slightly different when it's a footballer worth multi millions and his contract alone is worth multi millions. It is a sickening situation though and the longer it goes on the worse it will be for everyone. Just hope the owners refuse to do any business with city in the future like they have done with West Ham.

I want him to bring the most important player to the club ( 7 goals and so much assist ) it’s better for the club ! Can you think ? City put a 60 millions that been refused from him so he must come  with a better plan for the club ! Am i wrong ? I don’t give a Sh...t how much the owner is rich i care about the club ! 2 games 1 point ??? I feel European leagues starting to  get far ..... a dream ! So he must do something :(

Thanks for your insightful plan. I feel we could really go places if our owners were to heed your advice! lol

It's a big IF, but IF Mahrez keeps pissing about like this, it could be that the amount apparently offered up by Man City might not be matched again in the summer. If the sums offered aren't in this same ball park, it could be argued that the Thais have been completely daft by not taking a huge sum of money for a player who, let's face it (he's got previous), was likely he was going to spit his dummy out.

They should have sold him, re-invested the money in our future and ended this whole fookin saga.

Hindsight is the most exact mate, the owners,Imo, made the right call at that stage in the window!

I did say he's got previous mate. It was very likely he'd do this again.

And the club surely knew what was coming?

Important for us not to get lowballed. Coutinho and Van Dijk sulked but both went for the desired fees in the end. No reason we shouldn't still get big offers for Riyad in the summer.

Worth bearing in mind, if we accept the lowball offer now, we may have dealt with the Mahrez problem in the short term. But it will be back again and again, when the big clubs come back for Maguire, N'Didi, Schmeichel or anyone else they might fancy, and piss us about with shit offers while tapping up our players . Appear a soft touch once, then these ****ing greedy vultures will be back to strip the meat off the carcass until there is nothing left in their never ending quest to kill the sport for anyone who is not in their inner circle of "elite" (i.e. we already have loads of cash, we will continue to take more than our fair share of cash, and use FFP rules to stop anyone else ever getting the cash) clubs.

This in spades. The problem in the Mahrez scenario is that other clubs, Man City, Roma and others are too cheap to pay the price for a player that has demonstrated his quality in the PL. They can; jog on.

I wouldn't be surprised to see him sign a new contact this month with a release fee of about £75m, £150k a week for 3.5 years.

That way Mahrez knows the club can't change the goalposts again on his valuation and it motivates him to end the season well to interest the elite clubs. Us offering him £150k a week also strengthens our hand that we value him as a £75m+ player.

as pointed out in the other rm thread. just like the spanish way. release clause relevant to wages and contract. players and clubs know the score. just like the 198m barcelona put on neymar

Yeah but if you bow down to every prima donna strop then the club will be seen as a soft touch was my point mate! Then the oligarchs will take advantage.

Not a criticism of your post just the other perspective lol

If he does go for less, I honestly don’t care. If it stops the likes of Maguire or any other lad we develop kicking off in the future then it’s done it’s job.

I don’t think enough comparison has been made with Southampton who continually sell their players. The same cycle happens there repeatedly, player gets good, sold. So it becomes accepted by all the players that Southampton is a stepping stone. We don’t want to be a stepping stone.

The comparison is stronger too because Southampton haven’t adequately replaced those players they lost. So why would we risk gambling on signing a winger in the last 48 hours of the transfer window to ‘replace’ Mahrez. This club has made too many gambles in the transfer market recently

Knowing our reputation, Tottenham come in with a £25m bid for Harry Maquire, Leicester laugh it off, Harry sulks and we sell

Arsenal see this and offer £20m for Vardy...........

Everton see this and offer £18m for Ndidi............

Race to the bottom that would cost us more than the £50m

Fully agree

You could see that Kasper loves that the owners wont be had over a barrel when he answered a question about Riyad in that post match interview.  He was satisfied that he plays for a club with serious owners

If players see that the owner cares more about squad quality than selling then they will respect the club and we will be a more attractive club

The owners have unequivocally done the right thing
