I mentioned in the match day thread that I was keeping up to date via the ssn app and there seemed hardly any mention of James or Silva. Did neither of them have a good game?

James is a good pro, he would probably be quality in the Championship, but at this level he offers very little imo. Iborra’s form tailed off, thats true. But surely he should now be given another opportunity, because James, frankly isn’t good enough.

Matt James is and always has been a plodder. He's ok, but nothing more. And, as I've said before, was nearly ever-present with Cambiasso in a Pearson side that was rooted to the basement of the Premier division for months.

In my opinion, James is like King. Would be better suited to playing in a top, Championship side;

I've said all along against good teams he gets overrun. It happened at Arsenal away just the same.

James doesn't break up play, players seem to drift past him and he doesn't score goals.

Players in midtable team get overrun by good team shocker.... except you know Chelsea.

He wasn't nearly ever present at all for starters. You also blamed Cambiasso for everything, stating people people playing with him had to do two peoples work. Conveniently now forgotten.

Matty James made 29 appearances that season ,compared to Cambiasso (33) and Drinkwater (23)

Are you saying he didn't play very much and that we had a strong midfield?

Got a lot of respect for the guy to get back playing at this level after all he's been through but we need more than what he's got.

Not having seen enough of Silva I still think we need a midfielder who can drive forward with the ball. The number of times Wilf receives the ball with acres of space ahead of him and just lays it off.

I agree.

What we don't have is a central midfielder who can just take control of a game. Drinkwater could do this, at least at times.

None of the current lot run the midfield.

I was at the game and although we were constantly losing the ball I’d say Silva was our best midfielder. There was a lot of bemusement around me when he went off.

Not good enough. I don’t get what he offers. Ndidi and Silva win the ball back, Silva drives forward too. There should be a midfielder scoring goals but James doesn’t score or assist.

James had a really poor game yesterday but I don’t think he was much worse than Silva. I actually think Silva has been pretty disappointing so far; looks a bit  lightweight. Several times players just strolled past him yesterday. He also has the Iborra bug of giving the ball away unecessarily. If you watch the first goal, ok there is quite a bit of time in between Silva giving the ball away and De Bruyne’s cross but ultimately, Silva gives the ball away cheaply.

James does look as though he’s running through treacle at times. Lovely footballer but the injuries have taken their toll.

Can’t see him lasting anywhere near that long and if he does he’ll be turning out for Kettering or someone.

Ok cool it just seemed that he and James didn’t have a touch let alone influence on the game

So our super duper midfield of Ndidi, Iborra, Silva, James, King and Mendy is looking decidedly second rate or absent either on loan or otherwise.

Whilst by no means the reason for the defeat I’m at a loss to know what precisely James brings to the team.

If you’re a midfielder who doesn’t score and doesn’t really assist then what do you do?

By using that analogy, then what is the point of Kante, Matic, & Fernandino?

I admit he had a poor game yesterday but who did play well? We lost 5-1 to the champions elect. I'd point the finger at puel who should of took james off instead of silva, who imo was more creative than james.
