All good choices. Marble Arch is great. Britons Protection has potential to be great but is poorly ran. Pev, Angel and the Castle are all decent. Port Street Tavern is worth a trip, they have a huge selection of beers.

Just feel for the size of the city it's not got as many truly great pubs in the centre as it should do. I can think of 25-30 genuinely excellent city centre pubs in Liverpool, but in Manchester it's maybe 7 or 8.

Agree on Liverpool > Manchester. There's lots of hidden gems tucked away in the Georgian Quarter which don't get much attention. Which are the ones you rate out of interest?

There are quite a few I've not been to yet - have got The Lion Tavern, Denbigh Castle and Baltic Fleet on my to-do list. Of those I have visited my favourites are:

The Roscoe Head

The Belvedere

The Grapes (small one near the bombed out church, not the one in town)

The Vines (used to be rubbish, recently refurbished and they've done a great job - right next to Lime Street)

The Ship & Mitre

Oh goody, more Heineken

My excursion did drop me off outside the Heineken museum :D Fortunately, lunch had other options available. Bruges today, so, I'm hopeful of even better choices.

Double Shot Nitro coffee stout from Tree House is unreal for a canned stout. But in fairness, never had a bad stout from them.

Tree House opened a new location not far from a favored vacation spot in New York…picked up 2 cases, all stouts and double/quadruple IPAs.

The Caledonia. I've annoyingly never been but Peter Kavanghs is very well regarded. The Philharmonic is worth going to as well.

Ship & Mitre is probably my favourite pub. Good grub in there as well.

Other than no / low alcohol beer i've not had a proper drink in a month today (astonishing for me)

Can't say i've felt any improvement in sleep or general feeling, which is not what I expected.

Same when I had 3 weeks off at the start of the year. Longest period since I was 16. Would love to write one of those LinkedIn posts like….

‘I had three weeks off from drinking and it changed my life.

From better sleep, higher performance at work, an elongated penis, fifteen new eyes and the ability to walk at 50 mph, here’s why I’ll be carrying on sober.

A thread’

But in reality it made no difference

Interestingly I can get up and function better in the morning after one or two bottles of beer the night before. But over the whole day my mood and energy levels are slightly worse.

Interestingly I can get up and function better in the morning after three or four bottles of beer in the morning.

I did dry January last year. I felt exactly the same, very underwhelming, my health probably improved slightly. I only have a drink at the weekend, but won't do it again.

Some very nice keg pints from a brewery called track. Based in the northwest. Been ages since I’ve had a row of craft ipas since that fad died down

They’re one of the best craft breweries in the uk.

Off to Edinburgh this week if anyone has any shouts for decent ale jaunts! 👍🏻

Kay’s Bar. Teutchar’s Landing and Malt & Hops in Leith.

You won’t go wrong looking at European Bar Guide
