4 bottles of Budweiser. Got intense swelling on my face after a round of anaesthetic so it’s the first Friday and Saturday indoors since end of lockdown in April. Tv is terrible, having a lot of fun in the covid thread tho

That usually will happen if you have more than one bottle of that piss.

Just switch to better beer and you'll be fine

The only Bud I ever really enjoyed was when I toured one of their breweries (huge factories really) when I was still in college.

The beer was free in the taproom, and unlimited -- for 20 minutes.  Back then I could drink a lot of beer in 20 minutes lol

Great to see some love for the Southampton Arms a few pages back, had been on my list a while but due to everything only got to get to it for the first time in the summer, glorious gaff. The Pineapple and Tapping the Admiral nearby are absolutely Susan Perb 'n all. Other notable London first-timers this year have been the Queens Head near King's Cross, the Lyric in Soho, Eagle Ale House in Clapham, and the Bricklayers Arms in Putney. All very, very good. Carlton Tav in Kilburn has a great story and they keep their beer really bloody well, even if it might not be as exotic in choice as the others. Always one dark bev on cask mind, and that's all I ask for, baby!

Biggest London disappointment for me in terms of expectation vs experience was The Three Johns, be willing to give it another crack, mind.

The POTY for myself though is hands down the Cardigan Arms on Kirkstall Road in Leeds. Used to live round the corner from it at uni and it was, to be kind, on it's £1.80 John Smith's all day every day arse. Kirkstall have done an unbelievable job breathing some life into it, was always a great building, just needed someone to bloody take it by the scruff of the neck. About a 15/20 min walk from Leeds Centre if you aren't bussing / Uber'ing it, but you can nip in the new Kirkstall Taproom (on the same road) while you're down there too, which I thought was pretty decent.

Shout out to the Brunswick in Leeds as well which gets forgotten about, can do a lovely 1-2 with there and the Reliance over the road which does a belting roast.

Have a good'en everyone x

Three John’s is decent. Have you tried the other ones in that chain? Exmouth arms, two floors, fountain and ink are ones that spring to mind

Exmouth Arms is on the list mate, had never heard of Two Floors or Fountain and Ink.

As Cardiff has said though, the Old Fountain, holy moly. Arguably one of my favourite pubs in the country, love that it's an indie too and has been owned by the same family for ages. From memory they've turned down some serious £££ on more than one occasion from developers who wanted to knock it down. Seeing the Brewdog over the road fall flat on it's arse is magic.

Sutton Arms not too far away from there has a similar vibe, old man and his lad running the show.

Next on the not done London list are the Pembury Tavern and The Chesham Arms, both in Hackney but only ever done the Cock Tav down there (which was Susan). Always up for any suggestions baby!

Nice! Agreed on the old fountain, its really good.

Pembury tavern is very good, although heavily catered to the five points brewery. Ive been to the Chesham arms before but did not think too much of it, let me know what you think when you go. Whilst in Hackney, i'd also recommend the hackney tap and hackney church brew co. Its a decent area to have a few beers in and around the market especially

Went Dead Crafty last night as Ship and Mitre had closed early. Some cracking beer in there and they thankfully stayed open until 12 cos they had a quiz earlier on in the night.

Regretting it now as that hour progressed into a 4am finish

Stella doing a promotion in selected bars where if you ask for a “Stella, please” you’ll get a quid off your pint and a quid donated to Hospitality Action, as manners to bar staff cost nothing. Quite good that.

Yeah brother I think it's Five Points owned? I love their dark beer though, but was amazed how wide their reach is now in London last time I went, the pale or best is a staple in most pubs worth going in. Keen to visit their new taproom down there on Mare St too. What's the Kenton like that way?

Hackney Tap owned by the same lads as Euston/Farringdon/Waterloo/Jackelope I take it? They do an absolute job. Exceptional value for a pint. Me and my old man did the Waterloo gaff and it was £4.20 a pint of Gun Milk Stout. £4.20 in the shadow of the country's busiest railway station, absurd.

Feel like a big FT knees up in the smoke with the regulars of this thread would be exceptional.

Ended up at the Euston Tap after the Charity Shield. Didn't realise they had a few places.

Not sure if I mentioned it on here or another thread but the crawl along the Thameside pubs from Limehouse along through Shadwell was very enjoyable pre-England v Scotland this year. Mind you, mostly Fuller's gaffs but so was the crawl from Kew Bridge to Chiswick post-Brentford. Had my best new pint of the year in one of them but I was a bit gone at that point so can't for the life of me remember its name.

All in for a booze with you boys off here.

Yeah mate all the gaffs I've been in of theirs are very steady, think it was @bovril (who's a bit of an authority with @grobyfox1990) that recommended the Holborn Whippet down there ages ago which was owned by the same lot but I think has been a COVID victim so never got the chance to nip in myself. Resting Hare over the road from Euston Tap is a mixed bag from my experience (not open Sat and Sun), but still very well priced if you're on the cask.

It really is a spectacular place if you do your planning and not all that expensive. I went a gig in Leeds with Scouse of this parish in November and the day out was as expensive as London. I bloody love it down there, the only people that complain about it being too busy are weirdos that had a bad school trip or hang about M and Ms World.

Last went in Holborn Whippet in August 2020 and the landlord confirmed it'd be closing down. Not the most amazing pub ever but was a good choice for cask ale in central London and relatively affordable as are all their pubs. Waterloo Tap was 4.20 for a pint of cask last time I went in which for central London is miraculous.

Talking of the Southampton Arms had a pint of mild from Left Handed Giant there three weeks ago which was one of the best beers I've ever had, popped up at the Harp the next week too.
