So, the World Cup just around the corner. Normally we would be looking forward to thousands of bare chested, sunburned England fans gathering in city centres, lobbing chairs and beer bottles. This time though, it seems like a very muted build up.

Any Foxes Talkers heading out to Russia?

Will be very interesting to see how it unfolds. They said on FiveLive that Russian Police have been working with British officers to see how best to police the England fans but last weeks trouble in Amsterdam doesn't seem to have helped.

I certainly wouldn't fancy it...

Anyone switched on who doesn't act up will probably be fine, anyone who isn't and does won't. And anyone who wants trouble will likely find it.

Think the place you might actually get a bit of trouble involving the Amsterdam awaydaybanterlad types is most likely to be if they're passing through Poland en route to Kaliningrad for Belgium.

How best to police them? Don’t. Simple as. If anyone is stupid enough to front up to Russian ultras let them go at it.

yeah, not that I want anyone to get an undeserved shoeing, it was sort of refreshing to see the England fans, for so many years the boisterous, loutish twats wherever they went, absolutely shitting themselves when the Russians were in town in Marseilles.

Aye if it’s unprovoked like a lot of the France 2016 stuff seemed to be then that’s shitty but if anyone is stupid enough to give it big licks let them have a go.

tlaking of France 2016 (genuine question and sorry if it brings up bad blood at all) how is that city fan who got hurt out there? Did it turn out ok?

I personally wouldn’t go,the Russians didn’t seem to care who they attacked in France,or was that a media story.Wouldnt take the risk myself.

Did read the other day the Polish who hate the Russians are going over to back the English.

Isnt going to be an enjoyable experience in my eyes, looking over your shoulder all the time.

Vast majority of the louts are now banned, by all accounts virtually every fan who got a kicking in Marseille was just a normal football supporter.

There are a few new young element coming through of yobbish supporters as saw in Amsterdam.

It could be a long time before we have a "European" World Cup again. Russia this year, then Qatar 2022, USA/Mexico/Canada 2026 and a possible Uruguay/Argentina 2030 bid on the cards.

That's terrible if true but of course it is reputation that precedes them. I presume the Russians weren't beating the shit out of other fans?

Worst thing about it.

The ones who caused the reputation are now gone and the innocent deal with the consequences.

That BBC doc only made the hysteria worse, Russian police are used to dealing with trouble and that's why the hools fight each other in the woods. There'll be loads more police around anyway, no doubt fat Leeds Paul will fancy himself after a few pints and get shoed in but it wouldn't be undeserved. It'll flare up between Poles and Russians, maybe Egyptians too.

Don't even really trust the Russian police to look after England fans in particular.

If there is to be trouble, they could be more forceful than they should be with the fans and get harshly-treated.

The UK spy poisoning row certainly doesn't help just months before the World Cup.

Guaranteed trouble. Russian MPs were urging their fans on during France 16.

It wouldn't surprise me if during the World Cup their government let all the Russian hooligans known to man loose on the English.

Innocent is a bit of a stretch, Matt, tbf.

Absolutely no defence for the Russians on even the vaguest levels but let's not make out all of this lot were angels either.

There were countless arrests of British supporters and whilst I don't doubt some were defending themselves, some were also drunk and disorderly, fighting each other and fighting the police.

Just because the Russians were the worst, doesn't mean the British were faultless and I think denying that doesn't really help you fix the problem. Unless you don't think there is a problem and then you're probably part of it, haha.

I accept some of this is media representation. You search for Welsh fans euro 2016 or Irish fans euro 2016 you get pictures of fans in stadiums and fans having fun with locals, you search for England fans 2016 and you get the above. That's not fair on the GENUINELY innocent England fans.

But they're victims OF the above, the above aren't the victims.

I simply do not understand the mentality of these morons. Not just the ones "givin it the big un", but also the twats standing watching, filming or egging them on.

If they do this in Russia then good luck to them experiencing Russian jail or hospital....

There won't be 2 consecutive World Cups in the Americas.

Maybe. But then it is FIFA and they can do what they want. The Uruguay bid is attractive to them because it will be the 100th anniversary of the first World Cup in Uruguay. But I guess they can't host the modern tournament on their own, so Argentina are needed as well.

Possible counter bid from England, but only once FIFA have cleaned up their act and can guarantee a fair contest

Two early bids for the 2030 FIFA World Cup - the Centennial World Cup - have been proposed. The first bid for the 2030 FIFA World Cup has been proposed as a collective bid by the members of the Argentine Football Association and Uruguayan Football Association into a proposed joint bid from Uruguay and Argentina.[1] The second bid for the 2030 FIFA World Cup has been a proposed bid by The Football Association of England.[2]Under FIFA rules as of 2017, the 2030 World Cup cannot be held in Asia (AFC) as Asian Football Confederation members are excluded from the bidding following the selection of Qatar in 2022.[3][2]

A joint bid was announced by the Argentine Football Association and the Uruguayan Football Association on 29 July 2017.[4] Before Uruguay and Argentina played out a goalless draw in Montevideo, FC Barcelonaplayers Luis Suárez and Lionel Messi promoted the bid with commemorative shirts.[5] On 31 August 2017, it was suggested Paraguay would join as a third host.[6] CONMEBOL, the South American confederation, confirmed the joint three-way bid in September 2017.[7] The Uruguay–Argentina-Paraguay bid would coincide with the centennial anniversary of the first FIFA World Cup final hosted by Uruguay as well as the bicentennial of the first Constitution of Uruguay.

In June 2017, UEFA's president Aleksander Čeferin stated that Europe (UEFA) will definitely fight for its right to host the 2030 World Cup.[8] English FA vice chairman David Gill has proposed that his country could potentially bid for 2030, provided that the bidding process is made more transparent.[9] "England is one of few countries that could stage even a 48-nation event in its entirety, while Football Association chief executive Martin Glenn made it clear earlier this year bidding for 2030 was an option."[2] In June 2017, UEFA stated that "it would support a pan-British bid for 2030 or even a single bid from England."[10] Moreover, a possible English bid for 2030 was also backed by the German Football Association.[11]

It is expected that countries from "South America (CONMEBOL) and Europe (UEFA) will likely to be in a bid competition for 2030."[12

They usually alternate between continents. Europe is where the money is with football, it won't be away too long.

Yeah, they used to have an official rotation policy but they scrapped it in order (probably) to ensure they didn't exlude potentially lucrative dodgy bids!

Don't want to go too far off topic but it's interesting that UEFA want to bid, Germany would support and England or "British" joint bid.

The three team group format from 2026 is a really crappy idea though...

Pretty much agree with this. My understanding of the Russian defence of targeting innocents - and obviously I'm not saying this is right, it's completely fvcked up and I do know some genuine innocents who were caught up in Marseille - is that if your countrymen want to give it the big'un then it's on them to defend you when they attack because their behaviour has lumped you in with them by default. It's mad, but it is how it is. Half the problem stems from English fans stubbornly refusing to educate themselves about how fan scenes differ across Europe and to temper their behaviour accordingly. Instead we all just sit on Facebook and laugh about how Russians wear bumbags.

See the thing is, you just know there's going to be a bunch of chav ***** that are going to go over there just to prove they aren't scared and to give it the big ones and get man points.

They're not football fans, or at least, they're not football fans first. They're just ****ing insecure dickheads who lump all of their self esteem on the myth that they're "alpha" and some retarded notion that beating up some other country's idiots somehow benefits our nation.

I went to France 2016 for a few non-England games. Format of the over-expanded tournament lent to dull, boring, nothing games.

Not a chance in hell i'd go to Russia, you'd have to pay me £1,000s to go. The quality of football will likely be dire again, it will be so overpriced, temperature will only be mid-20s. Oh and i don't want to be scared everywhere i go...
