So, the World Cup just around the corner. Normally we would be looking forward to thousands of bare chested, sunburned England fans gathering in city centres, lobbing chairs and beer bottles. This time though, it seems like a very muted build up.

Any Foxes Talkers heading out to Russia?

Will be very interesting to see how it unfolds. They said on FiveLive that Russian Police have been working with British officers to see how best to police the England fans but last weeks trouble in Amsterdam doesn't seem to have helped.

I certainly wouldn't fancy it...

I'm heading out to Kaliningrad via Gdansk for the Belgium game.

Going to stay in Kaliningrad for as little time as possible and try to avoid any England fan hotspots.

I was in Marseille and was absolutely fine, so I'm confident I'll be fine in Russia too.

I'm pretty sure that the Russian fans will be looking for trouble and this world cup will be a disaster from that point of view.

The Russian team is pretty shit which will only exacerbate the problem.

I don't think it will be only England games targetted though, but the recent "spy scandal" is only going to make the Russians more aggressive.

I think we'll back to the dark ages and worry for any English supporter caught up in it.

Seems like a sensible option. I'm sure it must be possible to travel to watch the game without congregating in large numbers, taking your shirt off and lobbing bottles at locals!

I went to Ukraine in 2012 and saw no issues at all but great, slightly narrow minded people that were friendly beyond belief. I was in Marseille and was lucky not to see any trouble somehow but I cant see anything other than shit kicking off in Russia. The atmosphere in Marseille was so tense and having to walk back about 6 miles to the hotel as the whole place had basically shut down was chaos.

Its a huge shame but the demand for tickets from our fans isn't there other than the Belgium match in Kaliningrad. I logged onto the FIFA official site and you could buy tickets to Panama and whoever else we are playing with no hassle at all.

If I could have got tickets for the Belgium match I would be doing exactly what Craig said and steering clear of the typical England fan hot spots.

Firstly, you aren't going to get the 'idiot(s)' what turned up to Amsterdam or France. Getting to Russia and around the country is just too much hassle for those type of 'fan'. (See South Africa, Japan/Korea)

My gut is that it won't kick off. The majority of the Russian towns have never had a huge influx of tourism and that creates this 'alien scenario' where either things are too weird for people to slip into 'idiot mode' or the locals are really friendly, thankful for the cash it all brings.

Moscow and St Petersburg, yes there will be more common with tourism and foreigners. However, there will be far more Police as a result and secondarily, they will be allies in a political sense as well as enemies.

I suspect you might hear of Polish/Serbs/Russian fighting out of towns mind.

The chavs playing up in Amsterdam won't be on the plane to Russia. It won't stop England fans with no interest in a row being set upon or ambushed though.

Before all the Russian Ultra hype started, in 2007 for the qualifier in Moscow, groups of English were being picked off in broad daylight by Russian lads. In fact the group i was with got attacked at a tube station, with no provocation, by a Spartak Moscow firm.

If you think the police will look after you, forget it. We heard several tales of Russian coppers snatching passports and demanding money to hand them back.

My advice is watch it on the TV, don't give them a penny of your hard earned. It isn't worth it. The media may try and hush it up but there'll be violence at the tournament without a doubt.

See the thing is, you just know there's going to be a bunch of chav ***** that are going to go over there just to prove they aren't scared and to give it the big ones and get man points.

They're not football fans, or at least, they're not football fans first. They're just ****ing insecure dickheads who lump all of their self esteem on the myth that they're "alpha" and some retarded notion that beating up some other country's idiots somehow benefits our nation.

In society, as well as football.

Don't think I'm gonna risk it based on all the racism you see in Russia you see  on the news. Euro 2020 will be shit due to it being based in so many countries, I aint going to Qatar, so I guess Euro 2024 it is. Hopefully I'll get to a World cup one day, only in my twenties so hopefully loads of time.

Dunno, but this lot seem a bit nuts

Just the sheer volume of people running on to get involved is mental. They need to get a hobby or go to a theme park to cool off.

It is frankly shit that you should have to feel like this in 2018.

I'm presuming you are "non white" (as if that should be an issue). I grew up in the 80's and racism was a thing then and maybe is still is but I am encouraged by how far we have come. My kids are much more open minded and seem much less bothered about other nationalities and skin colours than perhaps people were when I was growing up.

When I was 8 I was in a primary school class of 20 or so, mostly white kids. We had a "black" girl join the school. I left that school shortly afterwards as my parents moved away but even at that age I can remember my teacher referring to her as a "darkie". And in doing so, he marginalised that girl.

I'd like to think that i have grown up a bit more respectful and understanding and I try to instill that in my kids.

I think Euro 2020 will be good though, but realistically not many people are going to "go" to a tournament so far spread out. I presume if England qualify we will be in the London/Glasgow group anyway, and probably the L16 and QF will be in this country anyway along with the SF and F which are at Wembley.

Following Leicester over the years ain't been an issue, always avoided Milwall due to similar reasons. Also sitting at the forest game whilst they were chanting racist chants was also very embarrassing. However been to plenty of games around the country with no issues, which is great.

Yeah its a shame about Russia though, if the World cup was in any other European country this year I would have seriously considered going.

Euro 2020 is still an option though, all depending on locations of the games.

He’s from Harborough, met him a couple of times, wouldn’t say l know him. Seems a nice fella though. He had a mild brain injury l believe ( if that’s possible ) which has apparently changed his personality. Told me has no recollection of what happened at all.

From Lutterworth/Hickley way, I wen't to school with his kids. The guy I always thought was more of a Rangers fan than Leicester.

From afar he looks to have made a hugely impressive recovery from where he was to now.

I don't think there will be much trouble, their police will be on it and the ultra/hooligan groups will be targeted by the authorities and out the picture before the World Cup starts. This is a showpiece for russia who want to show themselves off to the world as a 'great nation', they won't want that spoiling, especially with the current political climate. However any other fans that feel like they want to cause trouble I should imagine will be dealt with swiftly and brutally by the police.

Ya think he was heavily involved with loyalist groups following Glasgow  rangers , it’s good to hear he made a decent recovery , id be fearful others will suffer like this in the summer in Russia

How best to police them? Don’t. Simple as. If anyone is stupid enough to front up to Russian ultras let them go at it.

Really smart answer that is. We all know the Russian Ultras can be trusted. You must be really naive or stupid if you think Russian ultras won't attack innocent fans.

I’m not talking about Russians attacking innocents? I’m talking about England awayday lads giving it big licks to Russians are gonna get filled in.....
