Match Ratings : Brighton and Hove Albion 0-2 Leicester City - Vote Now

Puel 8 - got the subs bang on. 2 of them made an impact. Gray got an assist for Vardy and Diabate gave us a bit of energy when it was required.

Kasper - 9 - great penalty save and an acrobatic effort from the free-kick just after Wilf got sent off. As has been heavily mentioned elsewhere, the penalty stop was a massive turning point and it bred confidence throughout the rest of the team.

Simpson - 7 - standard performance I thought. Did alright. May have been a different rating had Bong scored at 1-0 as I think he was marking him? The only other thing I can recall is playing Murray onside for the easy chance he spurned.

Morgan - 6 - average performance and got a silly but warranted booking. Could tell he went down to the ground far too early and left his leg up to foul him. But, he got a clean sheet and handled Murray and Locadia quite well.

Maguire - 7 - slightly better than Morgan but also got a cynical booking. Similarly, though, did well in handling their strikers. Both had a bit of a lapse in concentration in marking Murray for the aforementioned chance.

Chilwell - 9 - perfect cross to gain an assist for Iborra's header. Timed it well as if he played it any sooner, Iborra is offside and that's the end of the attack. Followed up an assist with the U21 national side and dominated the left flank. Got a great engine on him and this match was arguably his best of the season. Just hope he can find consistency on the back of this. My man of the match.

Mahrez - 7 - with the way Brighton set up it was difficult for him to create much but he saw a lot of the ball and did at times get in to good positions to test them. Doesn't help when at times I noticed Brighton had 6 at the back so was difficult to break the lines.

Iborra - 8 - Right time and right place for the goal, but as mentioned above, it was all timed right and it was accurate at a time when the game could have gone either way. Gave us something to build on. First half he was a bit clumsy in possession but I think majority of players on both sides were. Second half vastly improved as we pushed on.

Ndidi - 6 - the red card hinders his rating but it was, as most of us agree, a very harsh 2nd booking. First booking was well warranted and cynical.

Albrighton - 7 - similar to Simpson, an average/standard performance. nothing too special but no mistakes either.

Vardy - 8 - continued his good goalscoring form as required to seal the win. Great movement for the goal to peel off the striker then dart his run and tell Gray where to play in to.

Okazaki - 6 - standard Shinji. Won us a lot of free-kicks in the first half and spent a lot of time on the floor but the game didn't quite work out for him yesterday.

Diabate - 7 - made an impact as required and it was a good decision from Puel to bring him on to spark us in to life a little. Occupied the defenders for Vardy's goal. Excited to see what he has to offer next season as I think he'll play more (especially if Mahrez leaves)

Gray - 7 - bagged an assist and a worthwhile contribution. Linked well with Chilwell for the first and pin-point cross for Vardy.

Kasper - 8 - A couple good saves and a great pen save which changed the game. Still flaps at crosses at times.

Simpson - 7

Morgan - 7 - Thought he started poor, but grew into it.

Maguire - 7

Chilwell - 8 - Perfect cross yet again. Thought he played well.

Mahrez - 7

Iborra - 8 - What a man. Just great having someone in midfield who is good in the air. Can't believe James was picked for so long.

Ndidi - 7

Albrighton - 5 - Slowed every attack down.

Vardy - 8

Okazaki - 5

-------

Diabate - 7 - Excellent movement, thought he contributed more than Albrighton without necessarily touching the ball as much.

Gray - 7 - Great cross

Puel - 8

Brighton - 5 - Didn't offer that much. I like Brighton and hope they stay up (think they will). Hughton has done well there, again, likeable guy. It was my first visit to the Amex and I was impressed.

Referee - 3 - I wasn't impressed. Bookings for everything. Very inconsistent.

Game changing performance from Kasper my MOTM 8

Chillwell deserves a lot of credit for his display. 8

Diabate gave us a much needed injection of energy. 7

5 and 6's for the rest.  Pretty poor display, need to improve if we are going to keep the dream alive for 7th.

Kasper - 8 - Saved us the game.

Simpson - 6 - Consistent as ever.

Morgan - 7- Looked solid as usual, was unlucky to be booked as he slipped just before he made the challenge.

Maguire - 7 - Pure class.

Chilwell - 8 (MOTM) - Best game for us, looked good defensively and a good cross for the first goal.

Mahrez - 6 - Was quiet.

N'didi - 7 - Was energetic as always, was unlucky to be sent off.

Iborra - 8 - Good header to score, cool and composed.

Albrighton - 5 - Didn't do a great deal.

Okazaki - 5 - ^

Vardy - 7 - Didn't get much service but good run for his goal.

Diabaté - 7 - The game changed when he came on, would like him to start soon.

Gray - Good cross in for Vardy

Fuchs - Slotted in neatly at the back for the last few minutes.

Got to be Kasper for me 9/10 the pen save was the game changer. Save after save through out. Thought our defence all deserved an 8/10 all did there jobs well Simpson, Maguire, Morgan, Chilwell and even Fuchs when came on.

Mainly 6s and 7s Kasper MotM for the penalty save, other than that it was a fairly standard performance our quality and options on the bench won the game I thought both Gray and Diabate were very good when they came on.

It will be interesting to see what line up we go with next game, with Wilf out we lose a huge presence in the middle of the pitch. Time for someone to claim their place.

Brighton were solid and made it very difficult for us and were unlucky not to convert one of the handful of good chances they created.

Ultimately an excellent result but an average performance that will not convert the doubters.

Should we rate the performance over 90 minutes, because undoubtedly the first 60 minutes, the majority struggled to score a 5, awful pedestrian football, with a few unable to pass a simple ball.

Last 20 minutes, some deserved 6.

The result is what matters, but it papers over the cracks, we were truly awful, and Brighton should have been winning comfortably by the time we scored, a luxury we won’t get every week.

It's difficult to mark players accurately when only going from radio commentary as opposed to watching live on from a stream. Even the latter is sometimes lacking as TV obviously follows the ball and doesn't give the opportunity of seeing whose working hard off the ball to either create things or cause the opposition problems.

I mention this as several people have given Iborra an 8? From admittedly, only radio commentary,  apart from his excellent goal, he persistently gave the ball away. Matt Piper commented that he felt it was his worst game in a Leicester shirt at one stage. It is all very subjective as different people notice or value different things. Sometimes though there seems to be a 'love in' with certain players like Iborra whereas others like Simpson always appear to be criticised?

Not denying we were poor but the first 60 mins was poor overall and Brighton were as bad as, if not was than, us.

I like them, they've done well to stay up, and with the players they have I understand but the quality of their play was limited.

I think it was a decent away performance by us.

Not wishing to attack you Monsell, but your post raises an interesting parallel. Let's go back to the home games in which we failed to beat Swansea, Stoke and Bournemouth. One could reasonably argue that we should have been winning comfortably in overall terms, regardless of when the opposition scored. We don't give our own team the same latitude that we give the opposition when we get the shoulds and oughts out to play.

However, this is a general point, not aimed at you in any way - you just said something interesting.

It’s about the quality of the opposition, decent opponents take chances, and Brighton didn’t have the quality to take their chances.

And your right, same said about us against Stoke, Bournemouth and Swansea, they are probably better than Brighton, and we didn’t have the quality to beat them.

I personally don’t think we are good enough to say we should be beating these sides, on our day we can be great, but don’t have the quality to be consistent.

To puels credit, with the players he has at his disposal, and numerous shocking performances, he’s quietly got a nice points tally, I’m excited about what he can do here with quality players hopefully coming in, and we might not be so slow and predictable with better technical players.

Too many high marks. we weren't very good for a lot of the match.

Simpson was very poor in the second half, don't know how people are giving 6 let alone 7.

Our attackers were poor most of the time, no service for Vardy. We looked better once diabaté was on.

chilwell and Maguire our two top players along with Kasper.

What's with all the love for chilwell? He was as bad as the rest for most of the game, and it wasn't as if his cross was anything great, he never ran down the wing beat a few players and put a good cross in, the ball was played back to him, he had plenty of time to set it up and just put it in the box, we only scored because brighton defenders were poor, he was lucky his mistakes didn't lead to goals.

Once again the game was a messy not Messi storyline for the most part. Tough watching the constant giveaways, no feed to Vardy up top and 2 backs who I can only laugh at as they take 'half an hour' to coordinate their bodies and brain to make a simple pass...and still screw it up. Kasper was great and the subs definitely made a difference.
