Possibly, but I never remember adults drinking coffee when I was a kid - only tea.

It seems coffee has only really become popular over here since the 90's when Starbucks first opened and now it's exploded into a trendy fashion.

Coffee drinking is recorded earlier than tea drinking in London but I think to some extent you're right, there was a 'Friends'-inspired boost in the early 90s and now we have a lot of wanky trendy artisan places. Personally I like cafes abroad but can't really be doing with coffee shops in the UK mostly because you pay too much for the quality. I enjoy making coffee at home though and have all the paraphernalia. It's quite therapeutic.

Funny how strongly some people feel about it in the UK. We do love to put people in little boxes (punnage potential).

Provitamil oat milk is lovely in coffee - I don't see any reason it wouldn't be the same in tea (there are other brands but they curdle in hot drinks).

I'll try that one cheers, yeah I've struggled to find ones that don't go all lumpy.

So i had made a cuppa then got side tracked by this thread and the kids.

Went to pour my tea out and had to drink it right away as it was perfect temperature. No small sipping. :(

How did you ever get on in the days before coffee bro?

It's still a relatively new phenomenon in the U.K. and it sounds like you've also been suckered in to all the marketing hype

Nah, it's not a new phenomenon, Izzy, I've been drinking it since I was a boy - my parents had one of those percolator things.

Kashew milk and oat milk don't go lumpy or make the tea too sweet. I think you can taste the oat less in the tea than kashew but both are nicer than almond and soya.

Ha ha coffee did exist before Starbucks! Can remember it as a nipper when I'd visit my dad at work it was what everyone drank... mainly because instant coffee was easier to make than tea.

My mrs won't drink anything but the cheapo sainsbury basic tea. Used to be about 20p for 80 bags lol

Anyone found a decent milk for tea that you can have if you're lactose intolerant. I never feel great after cows milk, but almond and soy tastes like cardboard.

Hemp milk.  Changes the flavour completely but in an acceptable way imo, a bit nutty.

Loving the Doc Brown rap @StanSP

Yorkshire tea has always been my fave. I drink far more coffee though.

If you voted for 3, 4 or 5 and you aren't a 75 year old woman then you should go see your GP immediately.

Are we voting for the colour of our pee or the colour of our tea?

recently went black... never going back!

After 30 years of complaining coz you can never get a decent cuppa out of home.. i realised its because of the milk/strength... once the milk is out...There is no longer a problem :) (Except it stays hot for EVER!)

I find it odd that that particular racial stereotype is never complained about.

I can't think why...

Well, I'm not black, so either she wouldn't know or it's not true. :D

Either way, I'm not sufficiently insecure as to be bothered.

I CAN drink black tea, but people give you such funny looks when you tell them, I just have it with milk for a quiet life.

I'd you're drinking an English breakfast blend black then you're doing it wrong, to be honest. These are teas that have been blended since forever to be drunk with milk.

There's plenty of teas out there that weren't.

This thread is so upsetting. :D

@Babylon have you tried lactofree? It's just milk with an enzyme designed to remove the lactose iirc. Tastes like semi skimmed.
