I mean Its nice for the fans who get to travel to far flung places in Europe on a Thursday night but it's such a poisoned challice.

Look at how its effected teams in the past with their league form having to play Thursdays and then Sundays....there's naff all money in it until the latter stages and it's more of a hinderance than a help.

We had the Champions League which stuck is in danger of relegation at one point but that was worth it with it being an elite competition but the Europa League is a pile of pants in my opinion and its not a tournament we would ever have won anyway.

Thats my opinion...disagree with me if you like.

The Champions League didn't put us in relegation trouble. It's a cop out to suggest that.

I'm pretty sure I looked this up but our record about 20 games into the season read that we'd actually taken more points from the 6 games following CL matchdays than we had the other 14 games. It helped in my opinion having a very generous group, where you could forget say, the dire loss at Liverpool and then bounce back off a win over Brugge on a high.

Physically it'd have been a strain but mentally, surely it couldn't have done us much harm.

Players in Spain, Germany, Italy, France, Holland etc...who had never heard of Burnley before. certainly will if we qualify for Europe.

One or two might be on to their agents soon.

Don't kid yourselves, you really won't be much of a draw just because youre playing a Europa league qualifier in the arse end of nowhere

Id take European qualification and relegation in the same season everytime.  A season ticket holder of over 40 years and went all last seasons champions league away games aswell as Madrid and Vienna in the past. All being fantastic trips supporting my team. Sitting stagnant in the middle of the premier league doesn't inspire me one bit. I for one along with my friends are gutted we have blown this chance

The Europa League should revert back to straight knock-out, but even with the current daft format I'd love Leicester to be in there. If you don't want your club in Europe, there's something wrong with you.

I can see why teams like Arsenal and Man United play changed teams, but when teams like Everton and West Ham fanny about and get knocked out, they're a joke. What do you think Middlesbrough and Fulham fans best memories are? If those clubs got to the final, we could have too.

Qualifying for Europa league means finishing high up in the table or winning a cup.

Not qualifying for Europa league means playing shite for the second half of the season.

Tough choice.

If they don't fancy a Europa League campaign then sack it off in the qualifiers, play a young side from the start and say "You are my cup team, do yourselves proud!"

Also make sure the fans know that, so nobody spends a fortune to go to the games thinking they will see a full strength side.

I want us to win every game and if the consequence of success is more games, then I want us to win them too. The Europa League may not be the best but it means more money higher profile and a chance to use the whole squad.

The Europa League should just be binned off. Either bring back a cup winners cup competition or just have one European competition. You get the Champions league drop outs joining the competition half way through and the winner gets to play in the champions league. It couldn't be more of a second rate competition if the called the shit cup full crappy teams.

Not had a chance to read through this thread but in case it hadn't been mentioned....

The winners of the Europa League will have played 21 matches. Do we really need another half a season (and more) in many far flung countries ?? Sounds great qualifying for European tournament but I most probably wouldn't go to any Thursday night matches. Not really fussed, to be honest.

As I have said in another thread watch Burnley struggle in the premier league next season.  Their squad is simply not large  enough to cope with the demands of the Europa league and  Premier league games on a Thursday and Sunday.

Travelling to far flung Eastern European Countries.  West Ham and Everton did not take it seriously when they qualified for it.  Starting the season in July.  I really cannot see the benefits in qualifying for it.

We are building for the future give Puel time to get the players in he wants this Summer.  Go again next season and finish in the top 6.

Owners, extra income = definitely

Fans, to experience Europe away again = definitely.

Players, extra matches, more work for their money = definitely not

I suspect that clubs earn very little from a Europa league campaign unless they reach the quarter finals at least

we won the league, were the most talked about team of all time, qualified as top seeds straight into the champions league group stage, got a draw that made us favs to go through and still lost our best player and didn’t attract any particularly big names.

and that’s not to mention that we were already a much bigger club with a world known manager, with bigger wages, more fans, better facilities and a better ground than burnley.

not too sure many of the world’s elite players are gonna be rocking up for a couple of europa league qualifiers in burnley and montenegro a week after the world cup finishes, no offence.

If we had a settled squad, with one or two adjustments required in the summer, yes no problem starting at the end of July. We however need some major surgery and time to drill in a new system of play. Not disappointed at all. Let's get it right in the summer and go and win the FA or league cup next season.

Well, extra games are the price you pay for success. If there is no desire to see your club succeed, win stuff and play in Europe then I don't really know why you follow football really.

Personally think it would have caused a proper mess for us next season. Better off out of it next year in my opinion. Too much work needed this year.

In terms of the opening post and question, yes we do want europa but not through 7th in the league. Starting competitive games in July after a world cup would of been more hindrance than anything. Winning a cup has to be an objective going forward

"...no desire to see your club succeed"

Not playing in the Europa League improves our chances of succeeding in other, more important competitions. The desire to see my club succeed is the very reason why I'm content to miss out.

Ps. I don't follow football. I only follow LCFC.

OK so which other competitions?

Win either Cup = Europa League football

Do better in the league = Europa League football

Playing in this competition *is* the reward for doing better in other competitions.

Some 'reward' that screws the following season.

Do you think that we would've won the Premier League or even completed the Great Escape had we been playing in the Europa League in those seasons ??

That’s so irrelevant lol

I’m bored of the premier league already, I’d be so bored going to games knowing we’re going to finish 8th - 15th every season.

Give me european adventures or a relegation battle any day of week.

Who knows. Bottling Europe did Spurs no favours when they were on our tails did it.

Playing in Europe is the highest form of success we could wish to have. Why wouldn't you want that any time you're offered it?

Not sure you can say that without a hint of self absorption really. The Europa league is a massive competition for most of the countries that take part in it. The majority of teams take it extremely seriously. That it is seen as an inconvenience tends to be an English thing and is more to do with our league being played at a more exacting pace than most, with more games and no winter break.

I also can't understand top teams (usual champions league qualifying teams) calling it second rate when they fail to qualify for the CL but can Leicester City fans justifiably call it second rate? I'd argue we can't.

Playing in the UCL is the highest form. The Europa League isn't.

I agree. Foxes better off concentrating on the league.

Congratulations by the way. Hope you do well. I have a vested interest as I have an uncle who is a Burnley supporter. Shame is, he's also a total tit. I'm sure he's not stereotypical of Burnley fans in general though. ;)
