Some 'reward' that screws the following season.

Do you think that we would've won the Premier League or even completed the Great Escape had we been playing in the Europa League in those seasons ??

The chances of us playing in the Europa League as a newly-promoted Premier League team would have been slim to non-existant. Because it required us to win the FA Cup in 2013-14 - and that as a Championship side.

Similar case with the season after.

I also think that there is some truth to these rumours and there are players clearly threatened by the changes Puel introduced.

It is normal for every evolutionary force to meet resistance, a reactionary one, powered by those who are unable to adapt or to see the bigger picture, which will try with all its might to maintain the established status-quo.

It's not only about Puel showing balls, because if I refer to his club's history, he's kinda stubborn and quite the fan of an iron discipline, never hesitating to drop those who don't to get in the rank.

In my opinion it is much more about how much credit in the bank he has. He has to choose his battles.

He absolutely must get results in the last 5 games, starting with Southampton, which could really be his demise if we happen to lose against them. That's why he wouldn't risk to launch an open war in the dressing room. There is a power balance and he doesn't seem to be strong enough for the moment.

Should he survive this season, he's going to clean-up that dressing room and maybe we can move on. At last.

Agree, we will probably see who the problem players are come summer, like you say if he survives.

I hope he does, because I’m tired of this bunch of players, consistently under performing for managers.

Like I have previously said, puel will be the 3 rd manager sack because of poor results, rumours of dressing room unrest, I  would rather change the players that seem to have the problem, than a manager every season.

Playing in the Europa League is greater than playing in the Premier League ?? Is that what you are saying ??

If LCFC played in any other domestic European League then I would more than happy to be one of the 185 clubs. Retaining our Premier League status is crucial at this time to continue the forward momemtum. Relegation would most probably put the brakes on the Seagrave and stadium development proposals and we just can't risk that.

If the intention is just going to be to finish 8-14th every season to survive and stay in the PL we don't need to bother with a stadium expansion.

Look at the amount of tickets still on sale for tomorrow night now we have dropped out the race for Europe and I bet you loads of season ticket holders don't show up.

Speaking as a Burnley fan, if we qualify, I'm not going to lose sleep over the idea that it might cost us a chance of winning the league.

I don't see any reason why qualifying for Europe = failure next season, anyway.  Certainly the reverse doesn't apply.  southampton were the highest placed club not to qualify last year - how has that worked out?  Are their fans sitting back thinking "at least we didn't have to play any European ties this year"?

That is different because they were never that close to Everton around this stage of the season- had we beaten Newcastle and claimed something at your place the chance would still be on.

You'll qualify and good luck to you, you've shown the consistency in recent weeks that we haven't. From the manager's perspective, Puel is on shaky ground at the moment, let alone after a bad start to next season. Dyche won't be under pressure should that happen so, although I don't believe Puel wouldn't want to be in Europe, a good start to next season is essential for him and putting all the attention on the Premier League might help his cause.

doubt it.

we'd still be 6 behind them and would be too much to turn around in 4 games.

Burnley have decent fixtures on paper too.

Opportunity is well and truly gone.

If your not talking personal but in general yes some will. But let's be honest it would need a monumental blow up. Six pts in four games. And we have spuds n arse.

I'm the eternal optimist but that won't happen.

Burnley's "Get Out of Jail Free" card is...Spurs v Leicester on the final day.

I reckon 10 points for Leicester from 5 games: Saints, West Ham, Arsenal (W), Palace (D), Spurs (L)= 53 points

Burnley: Brighton (D), Bournemouth (D), Chelsea (L), Stoke (L), Arsenal (L) = 54 points.

If you fancy a flutter, Skybet give you 7/1 Foxes to finish 7th.

Shockingly bad bet that.

Burnley could lose every game for the rest of the season and still be odds on to finish 7th.

I absolutely did and I’m gutted we’ve missed out on a glorious opportunity to do it.

At the end end of the day people need to reset their expectations. The chances of us making the champions league again are incredibly slim, and so for clubs of our size the Europa league is the realistic way into a European competition. If you don’t want that then what exactly are your ambitions for the club? Mid table in the premier league?

I have to be honest that the way in which we’ve fizzled out once safety has been achieved has left a bit of a bitter taste in my mouth. We had a real opportunity this year to win a cup or finish 7th, and we’ve barely even put up a fight for any of them.

Harsh regarding the cup, good efforts against Man City  and Chelsea.

Chelsea you might have a point, but Man City was there for the taking had we of taken it seriously. We rested players left right and centre which to my mind is not prioritising a cup competition. Don't get me wrong I think the guys that played did very well, but as a club I don't feel we really went for them with any conviction.

Qualifying for Europa league means finishing high up in the table or winning a cup.

Not qualifying for Europa league means playing shite for the second half of the season.

Tough choice.

If they don't fancy a Europa League campaign then sack it off in the qualifiers, play a young side from the start and say "You are my cup team, do yourselves proud!"

Also make sure the fans know that, so nobody spends a fortune to go to the games thinking they will see a full strength side.

I want us to win every game and if the consequence of success is more games, then I want us to win them too. The Europa League may not be the best but it means more money higher profile and a chance to use the whole squad.

Oh come on Cap lol

Dear Fans

Just so there is no confusion regarding our upcoming Europa League campaign Leicester City would like to make it clear to our supporters that we do not care, and will be playing our youth team in our upcoming fixture AFC Baku Boomerangs in an attempt to get knocked out at the earliest opportunity. We thought it only fair to make our lack of ambition and intentions regarding this competition most fans will have been looking forward to clear.

The club also wanted to make this clear before any fans bought tickets to any Europa League games. The last thing we want here at Leicester City is to have fans spending large sums of money on tickets and merchandising and increasing our revenue streams.

I would be happy with that, but I mean in the post draw press conference just say it isn’t our priority this season and it will be a chance to rest a rotate players and give the academy and fringe players a chance to push for a place in the squad.

Everyone knows what that means.

Of course, the players want it, for some of them, it'll be their last chance to play in Europe again. Me, as a fan though, I'm not too fussed, I can take it or leave it. I don't think the squad we have is good enough to be competitive in Europe whilst still being safe in the Premier League.

Posted

Puel certainly wanted it as I suspect he would have used the tournament to play squad players if his quote with the Glenn Hoddle interview was something to go by.

"And after that, no club wanted to play in the InterToto Cup. So we played in it and we took them like friendlies. I used academy players at the beginning. We won the InterToto, played European games until the last 16 of the Europa League and we finished second, in the Champions League positions. With the same team, we continued and I think it was 2004, we rotated between seven and nine players every game".

We could easily cope with the Europa Cup by playing our second string next season and still should be strong enough to get through the early rounds. A team like:

            Iheanacho

Barnes   Diabate        Gray

          James Iborra

Fuchs Morgan CB Simpson

            Jakupovic

Very negative of your own team. I think even if Leicester won all 5 games, Burnley would still have enough to finish above us.

You'll get at least a draw tonight. You'll win two of Stoke, Brighton, Bournemouth and Arsenal (minimum win and 2 draws).

We were probably like that when we won the league, underestimating our achievements every week.
