Yes

Unless you think we can win the Champions League it's the only European competition we have a chance to win

We can't win the EFL or FA Cup....hell we cant even beat Bournemouth, Swansea or Newcastle at home...so what makes you think wed get close to winning the Europa?

Posted

I want my club to achieve glory. Going far in a European competition would be glorious.

Surviving in the PL is good, but in itself it's not that spectacular. It's partly wasted if you don't use it as a platform to achieve other, greater things.

Nobody has quite got what I mean re not being in the Europa League.

I want Leicester to do well of course I do but the Europa League can have a negative impact on your league season to the point where it could threaten relegation.

Think about it would Burnley fans rather be in the Premier League for a few more seasons or play in the Europa League and it cost them their Premier League place.

We all moan on here when we lose no matter what and god forbid we are threatened by relegation with the meltdowns ive seen. To not have to play on a Thursday night gives us a better chance at the weekend and people suggesting wed play a weakened team....yeah that would go down really well with our high demanding fans.

I wanted us to finish as high in the league as possible but not making the Europa League has just as many plusses as it does minuses

that hasn't really worked out this season (I don't think we've done that badly though).

We're not gonna get Champions League football because of how strong the top 4 have become (it'll take something miraculous again no doubt). The next best option for European football is the Europa League and I don't think a club of our size should turn our noses up at that.

It should have been another challenge we should have seriously targeted this season with better results. I hope next season we can succeed at qualifying for Europe. For all the lesser glamorous trips to the likes of Kazakhstan or Ukraine you could still get trips to nicer places across mainland Europe.

And the scheduling would be no different to occasionally playing Wednesday then Saturday?

I was just about to post that myself.

I don't get this Thursday/Sunday excuse people bring up, it seems to be a mainstream opinion but as you say it's no different to Champions League teams playing Wednesday/Saturday.

If you're comfortably not battling relegation (which we aren't) and you're not mixing with the 'big teams' (which we aren't), then the Europa should be a primary competition.

granted that it's each Thursday as opposed to alternating Tuesday/Wednesday in CL but I can only imagine some fans won't like it (in some cases understandably so) because it ruins their routine after being so used to playing on Saturdays each week.

But for the players, it shouldn't be too different I'd imagine.

any European football would have been good for the club. It would help attract better players and increase revenue for the club and owners, not to mention great away days for the fans

If we aren’t going to try and do as well as possible we can go back to playing Barnsley on a Tuesday night for me.

How many teams have actually played in the Europa league and actually gone down the same season ....I can’t imagine it being many.

Burnley now two points from 6th with Arsenal to play. At the rate they going they could start their campaign in August rather than July and have the luxury of building a squad with that in mind.

I think if some fans answer the question as 'no', then quite clearly the PL win has gone to their heads - especially if their answer is based on the belief that the Europa League is a 'lesser' competition.

Many fans dream of seeing their club play in Europe, for different reasons, and it would also provide the club the opportunity, of course, to gain additional revenue on top of a normal domestic season and also could potentially provide the scouts to watch lesser known players who they may recommend the club to sign in the future at a low fee as possible.

Plus the more exposure to the club to different parts of the world, the more their name will be known to that particular country (profile increase etc).

You Know..!!

We have heard, the positives the negatives, blaming someone something for our good/Bad/AVG

Season. The whole forum has swing one way or the other on opinions, each trying to explain

the Twists and turns, thousands of in depth Debate on the reasons why,no matter what our

Individual take/stance maybe.Plus the Blame or not to Blame topics...

One thing we fear to mention...

We just wasnt good enough, for that covetted top 7 spot, and its simple AS that!!

Just maybe This group of players are simply not good enough to take us further!!

Through in reality this is our first attempt,to find some PL top 10 consistency after

the title. We have not Been in the PL for a complete 4 seasons, and some Posters

have the Gaul to react, that we have some entitlement to expectations and earning

the right doesnt come Into it. Reading between some post and topics one would

believe we are a wise and Willowed top PL Club with veterans and Years of tradition

of Europe routine,or years chasing and competing for top 6.

In our title year,we found an ethos and system, that Yorker, that worked

Burnley for top 7,for their Stature, found for this season ditto ,that bit extra consistency,

and with some solid good football.

What puts this forum to shame, are the few who cant resist in showing envny or spite

Towards another another Club's achievement, they deserve that acknowledgemant

and respect because it was that same something we ourselves happily  received in our season of glory.

And we didnt play great football in every game either ,in our season of triumph.

Take, ourselves Everton,Soton,WBA,Stoke,Palace, who looked strong above midtable team potential,

Well Dyche ,Burnley and squad, kept basically together, and found a system that outshone all of US...

Why??  Because Like our great season, fans and Experts stubbornly and arrogantly overrated themselves, and

underrated ,a stated lower Team/Club...because of expectations of entitlement.

And of those in this or any other forum that disagree, are just confirming the point!!

I am an LCFC proud bias supporter,we had an indifferent Fall off to a good season,

worthy of a top 8 allright, but not good enough by At least 9pts,to be that Team dreaming

to chase Arsenals 6th,...that honour is rightly Burnleys..

Just for the pot,its not beyond City to win the Next 5games,then a free-for-all against Spurs.

Now wouldnt that be something..We could scare Burnley Into having to earn till the bitter End 7th.

Or we Peter out, that even Newcastle jumps over us..

Ahh yes !! aint life and football grand..

I absolutely did and I’m gutted we’ve missed out on a glorious opportunity to do it.

At the end end of the day people need to reset their expectations. The chances of us making the champions league again are incredibly slim, and so for clubs of our size the Europa league is the realistic way into a European competition. If you don’t want that then what exactly are your ambitions for the club? Mid table in the premier league?

I have to be honest that the way in which we’ve fizzled out once safety has been achieved has left a bit of a bitter taste in my mouth. We had a real opportunity this year to win a cup or finish 7th, and we’ve barely even put up a fight for any of them.

Players in Spain, Germany, Italy, France, Holland etc...who had never heard of Burnley before. certainly will if we qualify for Europe.

One or two might be on to their agents soon.

Might well do ,till they find out what you pay .

Europa league is realistically only chance we have of potentially making it into the champions league again, it's a great competition for a club like ours too, being a regular in European football makes us a more attractive proposition to players we want as well

yes. i wanted away days that meant flights, hotels, foreign currency, and a few days off work.

if champions league football is chasing the dragon, then europa is the substitute, and was there for the taking. we bottled it sadly. burnley absolutely deserve it.

We should want to make it but I wouldn't be surprised if deep down we didn't. Coming 7th and going in at that stage would've made for a very challenging season.

But at the same time, if we can't get excited for it, then why on earth do we even bother at all?

Dyche's cup record is abysmal. I can see Burnley getting knocked out before the group stage simply because it will be too big a strain.

The excessive money you get just for playing in the Premier League has totally spoiled so much about the game. It's skewed everything to the extent that being an also-ran is seen as the priority. It's disgraceful.
