He’d probably win a few games, get the job permanently then spend the summer unable to attract any players, start the season with the ever aging band of brothers and be gone by October like Shakespeare.

He has been present at the training ground and on the bench on matchdays in a period of some shocking football and awful results. By my book the Appleton doesn't fall far from the tree and he's guilty by association so no. He'd be a good fit for West Brom though.

No more assistants taking the job on permanently for me,

we need somebody who can take the club to where our expectations are for the future.

He led Oxford to promotion from League 2 with a 2nd place finish before coming 10th in League One. He also took them to Wembley twice in the Tinpot Trophy whilst also getting his team to play some attractive football that was good to watch. Oxford even beat Rafa's Newcastle 3-0 in the FA Cup during his time there. Appleton certainly has his merits and plenty on here would appreciate a manager who encourages positive football and likes to have a proper go in the cups.

However, everyone would be quick to point and say it was wrong to promote an assistant who has only managed in lower divisions as soon as it went wrong.

Sack Puel now, he has clearly lost the dressing room and the sooner the Tops put an end to it the better. I would be against giving Appleton the permanent appointment but as someone to give a few players a good boot up the @rse and get the squad to perform for the last three three matches of the season, yes please.

Yes, if Puel does get the chop anytime soon then keep Appleton on as interim until the end of the season but for obvious reasons then don't repeat the mistake of promoting him to the role permanently in the summer, as happened with Shakespeare last time out of course.......
