Am I the only one that doesn't rate Benitez that highly? He's OK but remember he did actually get Newcastle relegated and I could of got them promoted with the team they had.

Dyche has had a smaller budget at Burnley for years but everyone is wanking over the fat waiter?

I had my reservations this time last year for reasons you state, but he's shown he can adapt to different situations, and you know full-well that he can operate with a side towards the top of the table too.

I don't expect us to break the top six, but I think if I'd bet on one man being able to do it again, it'd be Rafa.

Appointing Rafa would almost feel the same as when we first appointed Claudio.

Both have had decent spells at much bigger clubs than our own, Rafa being the more successful of the 2, but both seem to have been forgotten about by the bigger clubs because of their relative under achievements.

If it was to happen I think I'd be more excited by Rafa than I ever was about Ranieri, but that's not hard when you consider what we offer at the moment.

Dyche is very much in the same mould as Pearson. Good manager, galvanises a team, but I think he'll always lack that bit extra that could take a team past where he has taken Burnley too. He'd never cut it at a bigger club.

I wouldn't say that the likes of Napoli have been linked, but yes the very top clubs the likes of Chelsea, Arsenal wouldn't consider Benitez, for a club of our stature it would be a coup!

I think we should try and get a an experienced manager like Claudio. I know that not a lot of managers would consider coming here, but perhaps we should try and recruit someone who have won something tangible.

I think we are not being realistic if we think Rafa is coming here. Newcastle as a club and fan base is twice as big as us. Would be gob smacked if he left them for us.

Rafa has a very small budget for such a club 'big' club like Newcastle. Should a take over be completed soon and funds become available then I am sure he wouldn't leave Newcastle for us. The fact is that he's had broken promises for the last 12 to 18 months. I am sure he will become frustrated the longer this goes on and I'm sure he would become more interested in us.

Newcastle as a fan base are huge but they have won the square root of **** all since the 50's and have been irrelevant for a number of years. Unless they are invested in heavily, they are no bigger than the rest of the clubs below 6th position.

I keep seeing people posting this, but I'm intrigued as to why?

Yes, they have a larger attendance admittedly, however if we had a similar sized stadium we'd probably achieve similar crowds in the PL. The population of Tyne and Wear compared to Leicester and Leicestershire combined is virtually identical so they're no bigger in terms of numbers geographically, yet you could argue that we are better placed as our surrounding nearby counties football team's are all struggling so there is potential to pick up fans from these areas. Whilst there is an argument that they compete directly for fans with Sunderland, you could argue the same point about us and Tiger's.

From an honours standpoint, yes they've technically achieved more than us during their history, however as the majority of their honours were achieved in the early 1900s if you applied that logic then both Huddersfield Town and Preston, just to name a few, are also far bigger than ourselves.

Therefore I'm puzzled as to why Newcastle are perceived as this ginormous footballing super power. Is it down to the media's love-in with the club during the mid to late 90's under Keegan where they briefly flirted with challenging for the league?

Why do people have a wankfest over Newcastle? Shit team, done feck all since the 50's, cash strapped = Bigger club better than us. OK THEN.

I think their selling point is the ground. 50,000 seats and very dominating. I don't think we would get anywhere near 50,000 every week.

He’s loved and adored up there for seeing them through thick and thin. Can’t imagine for a moment that he would leave that behind to come to us.

Imagine if he lost 1 0 at home to West Brom as he did on Saturday at the King Prawn.  The boo boys would be hollering their heads off.

Whether we get him or not, there's no denying that he would be seen as the perfect candidate by the owners. They love a high reputation manager.

I'd love to see us get him in and actually see through a plan (Consistent top 6) with one manager (Benitez). These players need a manager with a bigger reputation than their own in my opinion, Puel fails here but I don't think Benitez does.

The obvious difference being that we have a better squad and we have more money to spend...

Rubbish. The only thing bigger about Newcastle is the fan base. Big clubs don't talk about fans, they talk about trophies. Of which we destroy Newcastle in every way possible since before most of current life on earth was born. I'd say you are far wide of the mark to be honest.

Benitez would be the most exciting appointment I can remember of ours. I wasn't particularly excited by Ranieri in all honesty, I felt like we'd appointed him because of his name above anything else, he'd been very up and down for a long time before us.

Heard a Newcastle based journalist on the radio earlier and he sounded almost resigned to losing Benitez. Says that Mike Ashley's bumped the asking price up again. I still think he'd go to better than us but it cannot hurt to try.

Delusions of grandeur I’m afraid. Sorry to say there’s absolutely no chance he will come here imo.

If we do go after him, he’ll just use us to lever a better deal at Newcastle.

Fair enough if true mate. I certainly haven’t picked up any Benítez out vibes coming from the northeast.

Which side of the bed did you get out of? I hope I am wrong and he would come here but I think you are as deluded as some of the players who take the field for us currently. They are quickly becoming legends in their own lunchtime.

Some booing at full time doesnt mean fans are calling for the manager to go!

I agree, but I think it does in our case. When the boos have rang out at the end of our recent performances, I think they were aimed primarily at the manager.

lol if he was put off by booing there's no way he'd have gone to Newcastle. It's all they do.

Whilst I am sure there's a huge percentage of fans who want Puel gone, I think the boo's are aimed at the collective, rather than the individual.

I don't boo but if I were at Palace on Saturday, I probably would have and it would have been aimed at the shambles on the pitch not just the manager.

As for Rafa, there's only so much more he can do on a shoestring budget. He's done brilliantly with effectively a Championship team. If there's very little investment in the summer then I can see him jumping ship. If it were between us and a top 6 teams / European Champsions League team then there's no question where he would go. If it's between us and an under invested Newcastle team, then it's a possibility he would come. We have a history of investing money albeit quite badly. We are on the rise off the pitch in terms of a new training facility and upgrade to the stadium. It could be a very good project for him.
