What’s the obsession with Maguire in midfield?

Can anyone tell me what Puel’s obsession is with playing Harry in midfield? Today when Iborra got injured it was the perfect opportunity to bring Silva into midfield and bring on an attacking player. Why is his initial go to always moving our best centre back out of his best position?

its probably a lack of options, I would have put Gray on but he seemed to want 2 holding men to allow the 3 behind Vardy to attack

Couldn’t believe it either, it was the ideal chance to correct the mistake of playing Silva behind Vardy in that first half and he goes and moves Maguire into midfield keeping Silva where he was. ??‍♂️

totally agree with this regarding maguire

His body shape isn’t right for a centre midfield role. Too rigid, lacks quick body movement and has no quickness of pace from a standing position.

his ball distribution is ok but far from what a centre midfielder should be.

Playing hamza and Iborra was a huge mistake. Both too defensive and neither covered the ground necessary in central midfield

Silva's too lightweight, we rely on having someone in midfield to break things up(N'Didi) and we'd taken Choudhury off so Maguire was playing something of a Matic role.

 

He's good in possession, can obviously tackle and has an ambitious nature. I get the idea of it

It doesn't matter where Puel plays anyone, its the ways he plays, his style is so negative and defensive, it actually encourages the other teams to attack us cause after a while they realise that we are not attacking threat, so they push on to us, hence the reason we constantly conceed the first goal

I'm not sure I'd call it an "obsession", more a matter of needs must. There were other choices available but Maguire in CM was not the worst of them. 

 

I have a sneaking suspicion Iborra should not have started (I don't think he was fully mobile, even by his slow standards!) and we perhaps should have started with a different lineup and subs. I reckon Puel gambled and got it wrong.

I think it's because were a bit thin on the ground n he's probably heard that McGuire played in that position when he was younger....under 12's....he's not mobile enough to play in midfield.... come on Claude anybody would think that you don't know what your doing...!

Didn't get it at all. Would have thought Iheancho would be the natural replacement if Iborra was injured, especially with two other midfielders on the pitch and we're losing 1-0.

I thought Hamza was very very average ....   and apparently according to CP, Drag was ill during the night and so he gave Benny a start ..  actually I thought Benny wasn't too bad at all and got in some good tackles ...   with those injuries and players not having any understanding together it was always going to be a car crash whatever formation and whoever was in charge.

I agree with your Hamza assessment but whilst I couldn’t knock benny’s efforts at RB, I thought he struggled.
