A statue of Vichai

Recommended Posts

I didn't see this thread. Here's what I posted in another thread.

I don't know about anyone else but I find it fairly hard to get the motivation to do much.

But I've done some research regarding a statue nonetheless.

Companies

Here are some companies that we can commission statues from. It's not an exhaustive list obviously. If anyone can find anything else then please post.

Price

About 25 grand, from some of the links up there. I'm sure we can fund this. It's not even one pound for everyone who attends matches.

Getting the money

There are various donation sites. They will of course take a cut for running their service. But that seems part of the course

We'll need someone known to the community to run this since they'll be in charge of the money.

Location

With enough people behind this, I'm assuming the club can find a place for a status. Otherwise we can demand a place in the city.

Next steps:

  • Email the above companies, asking for quotes and guidance.

Help needed

Does anyone know the club well enough to ask someone fairly high up if they will give us a location?

Does anyone have any experience with statues, or know anyone who does?

Please post your support for this idea. We need to get people behind it.

Please chip in with research, emails, info etc - everything will help.

  • Thanks 1

I would imagine the club will fund a statue of Vichai in due course.

But I wanted to run another idea by you guys that I've had to honour his memory and the lasting legacy he has left our city. I know there will be hundreds of ideas people will have of how to show our appreciation, so I apologise if this isn't for everyone.

It's very well documented that he and his family donated vast sums of money to Leicestershire chilldrens hospitals and charities. The impact he has had on our city will stay with us for the rest of our lives. So I was thinking it would be very fitting, and certainly in the spirit of the great man himself if we could organise a donation in his name to a children's hospital in his home city of Bangkok. That way his legacy can live on in the 2 cities that probably meant the most to him.

Would anyone back this idea? I have already done a small amount of research into charities and hospitals in Bangkok and think I might have found the perfect place.

Great idea which I'm sure some of the players, former players and locals can contribute to

Love these ideas.

Do any of you think it's worth setting up some sort of group (I wouldn't call it an official group but you get the idea)

That could represent the fans going forward in terms of ideas of how to honour Vichai?

I expect there are tens of thousands of fans and hundreds of thousands outside our fan base who have ideas or would love to contribute to something like a statue, or a charity donation or mural etc etc but don't know how to or don't feel they have the reach to do so.

Having one group setup that can take ideas on and put them to the club will likely be much more efficient than thousands of fans all trying to set up something similar to other fans.

Again I'm happy to help in any way, I'm really not trying to take the lead so to speak as I'm happy to work with anyone but it would be nice to get some sort of group set up similar to FS that would be the group responsible for whatever the fans decide we would like to do. Maybe we could have a sticky thread for people to post suggestions then the group who are in charge of the project can start looking at prices and practicality before taking it to the club.

I think considering the nature of who has been lost here anything we want to do should be passed by the club first as a mark of respect.

TLDR - Should we set up and official fans group representative group in charge of honouring Vichai?

Yes we should set up a group. I appreciate that we should leave this awhile, however the logistics of this will be huge. Raising the funds will be complicated but far from impossible. Then we have to commission an artist to make it. How long it takes is anyone’s guess.

Absolutely. I think we definitely need to leave it a few weeks if not a few months to see what the club decide to do. From a club perspective there is going to be loads of things to do in the back regarding ownership and club positions etc. Let's not forget that through this entire tragedy business doesn't end and aiyawatt is part of a very big brand that doesn't just include football but international duty free. Us adding to that is not what we want to do but if the club make an announcement of plans for something to be made we can contact and ask for permission to try and crowdfund the costs.

We could set up a group in the next week or so, or just see if the admin will allow us to open a pinned thread dedicated to suggestions?

I can drop a message in the next few days to admins to see if they approve.

Great idea's but this really has to be a Fans initiative, That is funded by us Fans.

I know there are 4 others deceased but no disrespect but they are not a closely linked to our great Club.

This is our chance to show how much Vichai meant to all of us. A humble man who came to Britain and chose us.

In his short few years with us he achieved so much. He touched so many with his kindness and generosity.

Gone but never forgotten. We as Fans have to do this for our friend who has tragically passed.

When the time is right (I have no idea when that is), I think that a fan funded tribute to Vichai would be extremely fitting. Considering how much he generously gave to us all, in one way or another, it would be a great gesture.

If it is a statue, then maybe the other 4 victims could be acknowledged within the piece too in some way. A subtle but suitable recognition somehow.

I could imagine quite a lot of money being raised. Not just from our fans, but also from the wider footballing community. Using any excess funds to support children’s charity’s both here and in Thailand would be a perfect way to honour Vichai (in my opinion).

On a personal note, Vichai’s death has really shook me. I didn’t know him directly, but I always thought of him fondly, even before this tragedy. A friend of mine encountered a small but kind gesture from him a couple of years ago, when he needed it most. Things like that stay with you.

I have decided to honour him by doing something that I’ve been meaning to do for ages, but never found the ‘time’ - I’m going to give blood for the first time this December. I have a couple of other ideas of how I’m going to personally honour his generosity. Which I’ll get round to in the coming months.

I’ve just felt compelled to do something... to ensure his selfless generosity lives on.

I’m sure many feel the same way.

God bless you Vichai. RIP x

Lots of great ideas in this thread, particularly like the idea of giving something back to Thailand and I think a statue is an absolute necessity when the time is right.

I'm happy to help out and make donations to any cause that the fanbase backs in Vichai's honour.

All still very raw and I'm fully in favor of renaming a stand or a statue as a way of marking the contrition Vichai made to the club and community.

My mind keeps drifting back to the horrific crash site and that this is LCFC land and the thought of fans and family of those lost having to look at that car park space for years knowing what happened.

I'm wondering that once things have settled whether this this area should be developed into something positive, a support area or a beauty spot, a calm area and place of refection, with symbolic reference to those who have lost their lives on that spot and where fans can pay their ongoing tributes over the years.

A garden of remembrance would be very fitting

Do you know of any charities in his home town or nearby? Do you know where his home town is?

And could you put us in contact with LCFC supporters in Thailand willing to help? Like, tell them to sign up to this site, regardless of how good their English is.

I really hope that everyone backs the team and the manager at least until the end of the season come what may. This would be the best short term tribute to Vichai from the fans. There may be some poor performances and not every one will agree with selections or formations but everyone on the playing and management side will be doing their utmost to honour what he has done for them and us. Our contribution is just to create that fabulous matchday noise that we’ve generated in the past.

I always used to like seeing him on the end of season laps of appreciation with an arm aloft in a wave or thumbs up, giving that approving smile that has been referenced by so many over the last couple of days.

Capturing that in bronze as a permanent fixture would be beautiful.

My own feelings are a memorial, similar to the one seen at Anfield (I think Bradford also had one) but also a statute of Vichai, probably alongside Claudio and Wes, holding the Premier League Trophy and one of his inspirational quotes adorned at the bottom of it.

I also think THE KHUN VICHAI STAND would be most befitting, too.

Bradford have got a memorial in the main square of the city, next to the city hall. Equivalent for us I guess would be something at the clock tower

My 17 year old lad witnessed the entire event unfold on Saturday whilst waiting for a taxi outside the seat dealership. He asked me "Dad what could we do as a mark of respect" I was only thinking about this very idea just this afternoon, it's fantastic that so many fans and people of Leicester just want to give something back to the owners and his family. I totally totally endorse this idea, it is probably the only way that us LCFC fans can give just a little back to Vichai and his family. You have my upmost support here. I will also talk to my friends who run instafootballmemes on instagram to see if they can get the same message sent to there 650k followers

RIP Vichai, Eric, Isabella, Kaveporn and Nursara

Would be wonderful, thanks. If the statute does cost 25 grand, and we make the donation max a pound, it would be fantastic to say 25,000 odd people from Leicester want show respect to their dad, and wish to make that respect permanent and prominent.
