Do you not think there was a huge difference between the way Pearson interacted with the players and the way Ranieri did with everyone?

can't say anything stood out to me. remember that nigel is currently working for king power - do any of us know if he has been back to Belvoir drive since he went to leuven ??  i suspect he has been in contact with plenty of the playing staff over the past few years in any case. i dont think Claudio is the type of character to be exchanging text messages since he left the club...……..

Maybe they had different relationships with the players? Virtually all players who played for Pearson talk about how he was close to them, took an interest in the families and was more than just a work manager, possibly Ranieri had a different style that was more professional and work-based.

Do you think?

Walsh was instrumental in some of the best signings we've ever seen at this club

Pearson (in my opinion) deserves huge credit for our title win, he laid the foundations

Walsh also had more than a fair share in some of the worst we ever made and carried that record on at Everton. Their fans couldn't wait to see the back of him.

As for Pearson I 100% agree. He deserved huge credit for what he did for us, a massive part of our history. I just think that the game has moved on and he was never a master tactician was he last time in the premiership. Not exactly pulling up roots where he is now and was poor when he went to Derby etc.

Fair enough.

I just think reading between the lines, when the stories come out about Kasper, Morgan and Vardy being the ones who had meetings with the Chairman about Ranieri - it's obvious now more than ever how close they were to him. I don't think those stories were completely made up.

I'd argue that if you give him time, he gets results. What he did here was unlike anything i've seen a manager do. Despite having funds at his disposal, and where it would have been easy to do another Sven (like any big name manager would) and splash money on big name journey men - he got rid of all that dead wood and signed hungry players with a point to prove. He could easily have been sacked when we went on that dismal run (a run far worse than anything he had at Derby), but the owners stook with him (something very unlike other foreign owners too) and the rest is history. Also shows why we are where we are and Derby are where they are after all these years.

Some of the worst we ever made?

Who? I can’t think of many bad signings Walsh made to be fair. In fact his track record of signings whilst here could be the best ever... for any club.

Nothing to do with Claudio - look to our beloved recently departed owner on that one - NG appealed directly to him and Top to be allowed to move there (the judgment made that it was better to sell to Chelsea for 32m than have to sell to a CL club for 20m before August was out )

nige and Claudio shared a very amicable public greeting in the directors box

The idea that shakey and Walsh ‘abolsutely loathe him’ ....... where do you get that from ???

i think you are looking too deeply into this when there is little to look for - Claudio  was very specific to thank all the players when he left - his problem was with some higher up .....

Ermmm... No he didn't.

Kante had a release clause in his contract.

No one had a choice, we had to accept the offer for him.

The crux here is perhaps the giving time? Ranieri took one season and made massive alterations to put right Pearson's tactical failings but that's a different story. Whilst I don't disagree with you, how long would he be given? People are whining about Puel and he's had a year with a hell of a lot to put right and we're in a damn site better position now overall as a club than when he got here. I'm afraid it would be the same for poor old Nigel, his name wouldn't save him, some fans as he puts it 'have delusions of grandeur' and want results now. Even Pep with all that wealth took more than one year.

I think that's because people have selective vision when it comes to him. Any good signings were down to him and bad are put at the door of Ranieri or even Koeman, he was sacked for good reason there.

Release clause of 20m to champions league clubs only

Chelsea were not cl

we didn’t have to sell to them but took a judgement that someone else would come in with 20m before end August .....

It's all gone quiet (not surprisingly) on Macia moving on (to Bordeaux ?) and Walsh coming back.  I wonder if there may be an announcement soon - inevitably nothing official today (though there may be some speculation) - but perhaps in the next week or two ?

With reports that Macia is likely to be on his way to Bordeaux in the next couple of weeks, a Walsh move back must be on the cards.

Of course someone would have came in for 20 million did you watch us that year? Kante proved himself to be one of the top midfielders in the world. And he was young and had a brilliant attitude.

It's not a judgement call if he would leave for 20 million it's a fact. I would be surprised if there was a single champions League club that didn't want him for 20 million.

Which is why we took the 32m from Chelsea ........

as i understand it those charged with making decisions on an everyday basis rejected Chelsea’s approach and the player ended up speaking directly to the owners - I expect a discussion then took place to decide it was better to take the extra 12m

Yes absolutely,  in a nutshell. There were some sadly that were prejudiced against him before he even got here because of Southampton. It was the same with Ranieri yet he'd had a largely good career. Puel was given a thankless almost hatchet job I'm afraid and has been steadfast to his ideas. I sometimes question things but do so knowing that I'm not in full possession of the reasons why he chooses to pick who he does. We sit in 10th position 3 points off 6th. Whilst in a state of rebuilding and getting the players, who he largely inherited to play a different way is for me very acceptable at this point in time. A new manager wanting to change things with even more new players at this point in time would be counterproductive imo and none of the names I've seen mentioned inspire me. Time for a period of stability for a change I feel.

At what is a very strange time in our history (not even accounting for the recent events), we could have easily just had our team ripped apart and ended up relegated straight away. I cannot stand this attitude some fans have that the manager should do all the obvious tactics and substitutions they want. If you take a step back and look at the position we are in as a club and how well all aspects of the club are being run, then it's unbelievable anyone is finding anything to criticise.

Sometimes it's about realising what you have, rather than what you don't

Think that was the best signing anyone has made in the Premier League in recent times by the way. I still think even now he doesnt even get the recognition he deserves. The fact Chelsea aren't being talked about in the same breathe as Man City and Liverpool just proves this.

Just think how much Pogba and Sanchez have cost Man United compared to how much Chelsea have paid for Kante.

Tactical failings which could trigger form like that great escape?

Ranieri tactic, look at the 2nd season.

It's really something more than just a tactic

It was a beautiful moment seeing Nige and Claudio back. Let’s not ruin it by comparing who was better, all over again.

Amen to that ffs!
