I came across this earlier today.

It’s an interesting read and you’d argue supports the fact that both the Slimani and Miss signings were nothing short of awful for us.

However, compared to the likes of Robinho, Torres (Chelsea), Di Maria, Wright-Phillips, Carroll, Crespo, Anderson, Nasri (Man City), Luque, Adebayor (Man City), Rebrov, Martins, Jo all having adjust for inflation transfer fees of over £50,000,000, we’ve not done that bad have we!!

Phil Babb for £50,000,000 anyone?!?

TBH Musa prefers to play on the left. He wasn't really given the time or chance to prove himself. Seeing how he carried Nigeria at the world cup, i think he deserved a proper chance.

With Slimani, we were stupid. We didn't put balls into the box for him. We tried to put him in behind. Now that he's gone we do exactly that, but with Vardy. What a waste.

Which is why Slimani ought to be considered for a recall 'option B' in January.

Babb would be a snip at £50m compared with Derek Whyte for £20m

It was worse than that. Often, we DID put balls into the box, whilst Slimani was here. The problem was that it was Albrighton supplying those crosses, and we repeatedly made the Slimani->Albrighton substitution, and vice versa.

A player of Slimani's style could potentially be brilliant in our current setup, holding the ball up as part of the build up play and then getting on the end of crosses. Slimani himself? I think that bridge has been burnt already.

Only £24m for Ashley Cole? Love him or loathe him, he was a genuinely great left back for a lot of years. England's best international during the period he played for them in my opinion.

Didn't he end up going for £5m +Gallas because of his contract situation? Under normal conditions he would have topped £30m and today would more than double that.

Better than Beckham and Rooney?

They've got Laporte at 50.9m in today's money when City bought him for 57m a few months ago. How does that work?

I think that's correct.

Either way, he'll always be remembered for saying he nearly swerved off the road when Arsenal 'only' offered him £55k per week. If accounts of the transfer are to be believed, Cole was holding out for not much more (£60,000) and thought he was worth that. Given the career he went on to have with Chelsea and England, maybe Arsenal should have stumped up more cash. It would have been money well spent. He didn't cover himself in glory with that episode but it shouldn't detract from just how good he was. One of todays two best players, Ronaldo, didn't get a lot of change out of playing directly against him.
