Not signing anyone

I think this is 100% B). We are not in real danger of relegation and Top has alot to deal with. I would put money on the fact he will ride this season out with Puel and make a change in the summer. We have always spent money in January so can't see it being a sudden policy change, they just don't want to give this manager funds.

If Puel has said he want's to pursue a policy of bringing youth through, which he and the club appear to be doing, maybe he doesn't want any money for outside players because he won't use it anyway.

Which would be fine if we had an imposing striker coming through the ranks but there’s rarely any strikers mentioned.

if Shinji can get a place in the bench, it shows the cupboard is bare!

Also the creative CM... Do we have one of those lurking somewhere ? Doubtful.

fans see it, pundits see it.. But the manager is too stubborn to acknowledge it!

Definitely the dullest Transfer Forum since FT was born.  Look on the bright-side though, we are not funding Sporting for 2019 and some deadwood has been chopped out (Benny) plus no sentimental contract extensions have been given out this far.   Roll on the summer window.

Last January was pretty dire as well. We got Diabate and that was it, loaned out Slimani, King and a couple of others. I don't recall us really going in for anyone either.

I'm very happy that the owners have seen sense and won't spend any money this January. Far better to have a big bundle to give to the new manager in the closed season to get the players he wants.

The only way we have a bundle in the summer is if we sell players first. Unless you can explain where its coming from?

been saying since the start of the window we are not signing anyone, for the first team at least.

read in to it what you will, its either

A), The board wholeheartedly support Puel and trust the way he has set the team / squad up

B), The board do not trust him to make anymore signings and he is gone in the summer before the next window opens.

C), you can only buy players no one else wants or pay a massive premium, or both of those things combined.

D) We don't have the money to spend.

Don't think anyone will come into the first team set up in January and don't really have a problem with this. January notoriously bad on the value for money front and what will any new signing achieve this season ? we are not in a relegation fight, nor are we pushing the Top 6. Let this season play out, then move on a load of our old guard in the summer and hopefully show some real ambition with new signings. Would be happy with 2-3 really class signings and continued development of some of our promising youngsters.

I've heard that the next couple of seasons could be very lacking for us in terms of signings, due to the money we are putting into the new training ground, hence the number of young players we've been signing, we've been hoping they'll keep us competative until the training ground is paid off

A number of players are out of contract at the end of the season.

Sorry I don't get your point?

It won't fill our bank account up.

Our bank account might be healthy (well it is healthy, but we don't know how much is earmarked for redevelopment), it could be the limitations on wages / yearly wage budget that's the problem. We don't really know yet, but we'll find out when we lose so much from the wages in the summer.

Let go of the out of contract players in the summer, get rid of king, James and players that are no longer good enough, and we can hopefully sign better players in the summer.

From what I can make out it’s our wage bill is the problem, not the transfer fee, with ffp having to be met

Makes perfect sense. If that’s the case then it’s vital we have a manager who can keep us in the premier league.

No way would the club hinder themselves so much at the risk of being dragged in to a relegation battle and their plans then thrown in to chaos. It's quite clear the approaches to spending are changing but this muck about there being no money to spend until we've redone the stadium and training ground is fallacy.

There was supposedly no incomings allowed towards the end of the summer and then Ghezzal, Soyuncu and Benkovic signed for over £40m.
