Do Dreams Mean Anything?

Recommended Posts

Everyone dreams whilst asleep, it's a proven fact. Sometimes we remember them for a few days, sometimes they disappear within seconds of waking. I was wondering what dreams you've had and if they made an impact on you. Did they have meaning?

Mostly they seem to be a way of putting things in perspective in your mind, sorting out your emotions, worries and life in general.

Sometimes they can be frippery and something we can't work out why we had a particular dream.

This topic has been prompted by a dream I had last night. I was out in Leicester with Donald Trump. We went to a Chinese restaurant in Belgrave Gate that he had raved about. He ordered and when the food came it was inedible so DT started throwing it all at people in the restaurant. Suddenly we were outside and in middle of some roadworks that meant we couldn't get to St Matthews estate or Abbey Park so I flagged down a passing cyclist and me and DT jumped on his crossbar and he took us all the way along Melton Road until DT got off and I then had to go back to the restaurant and pay the bill and apologise to the customers.

Pretty vivid and most of it I have been able to recall.

But why?

I tend to dream about things or people that I’ve met, seen or noticed that day. Maybe that’s my subconscious processing stuff it hasn’t had chance to while I’m awake - but I’ve no idea.

Its a fascinating subject I reckon but I rarely remember my dreams after about 5 minutes of waking up.

The wife has had a book about dreams where dreams about certain things are supposed to represent specific emotions or feelings but it’s purely guess work imo.

It's well researched by Psych's and so on. Dreams of falling or being too high that you feel utterly helpless and that to fall would be disastrous. I regularly dream about flying (without any aircraft, just me) or being launched high into the air and feeling terror at being so high and falling to earth. I have felt my self jolt and then wake up as if I've stopped myself from hitting the ground.

I read a theory that if you do hit the ground and die in your dream - you also die in real life. I've had the 'falling' dream many times and always woke up before hitting the ground, just as you've described.

Then a few months ago I was falling in my dream and I figured I'd test the theory out. I recognised I was falling (off the top of a Hotel I'd visited that day as it happened) and told myself to not wake up, make sure I hit the bottom and then see what happened. So I fell all the way down and the moment I hit he ground everything went black and then a bright white.

I thought "fvckin yes! I'm dead and on my way to heaven!"

Then the alarm clock went off and woke me up so that theory is a load of old bullux.

The other night I dreamt of a lad who was in my class in primary school 50 odd years ago. We weren't even mates & I  never seen him since.

Weird.

That's awesome.

I reckon that's the universe (or something) telling you to either make contact with that lad again or that somethings happened to him.

I don't believe that's just 'random' and reckon there has to be a reason he cropped up in your dream after 50 years

Dreams have always fascinated me.

I had a recurring dream (occassionally still do) where my teeth would fall out and mouth would be full of blood.

Apparently teeth falling out can mean two things - 1) worried about finances or 2) worried about appearance as teeth/smile are one of the first things someone sees when someone looks at you. Probably many other things it could mean but they're the main ones.

Another thing that amazes me is lucid dreaming. You can teach yourself to do it apparently and I was sure I could do it but never been 100%. It's like realising you're in your dream state and in an active dream, therefore being able to control the 'destiny', so to speak, of what happens in your dreams. Quite a cool concept when you think about it considering the dream state of sleep happens in the REM stage and that lasts a matter of seconds in the whole sleep cycle.

In that picture you posted of you and Francesco Totti, you had a beaming smile and a lovely set of knashers as I recall.

And you're loaded aren't you? :D

Since that picture was taken, I've broken up with my missus so yeah I am financially better off lol

No.

Your subconscious sorting out a bunch of random images and memories. Like your brain doing some housekeeping of internal files, copying them to the archives, etc.

Your brain applies a narrative because it's how we understand most thought. It's a narrative often swayed by things that's currently on your conscious mind, things you watched before going to sleep, etc.

Personally think anyone that tries to interpret dreams might as well be reading palms or tea leaves.

(edit: just to add, that's a mixture of my opinion and the theories I've read that I most believe. Nobody knows for sure, even if they claim they do. It's not something we know as fact.)

Yep this is it for me.

Most times if I have one of those really deep dreams I can work out why i've had it based on recent events or things i've been/people i've bumped into.

Absolutely love a good dream though. Those dreams where you don't wanna wake up.

Maybe it's a way your mind entertains itself after a long day. A thing like a stress reliever. Some have weird, almost cartoon-ish dreams whilst others find themselves imagining something they want/wish for.

I think it is a stress reliever because most dreams come after a long, tiresome day. (At least for me)

Hearing he woke up with a hardon.

Trust you

Actually, I wonder why some days we wake up with a hardon and others not? Sometimes it's a 'piss' hardon though so not sure if that counts...

I don’t often remember my dreams but the only one I remember recently was where a comedian I recently went to see was living in a shed/tent on a beach and was ready to kill himself while I was trying to talk him out of it.

Bloody weird things dreams.

I should've not projected like that and made it seem like it's the rule for it. But for me, that's what happens for most dream. But there is an exception where I had the same dream playback with a slight change for the last 4-5 years and it........hmm... How should I say it? Yes, it Made me more so emotional than mad or bothered and even wished it was true.

Once had a dream that I met Messi, had a chat, took a picture with him with my phone and he even signed the photo (yeah I know, it doesn't make sense) and I sh*t you not, I woke up almost in tears flipping the pillow, frantically searching for the imaginary signed picture lol

Talking about dreams, does/has anyone ever sleep walked? I’ve got some absolute cracking stories about that haha.

I never have but when I was at uni, someone sleep-walked and jumped out their window (2nd floor I think) and broke both their ankles.
