80s away days

There was a game in the 80s v arsenal where their away end got a lot thinner as it emptied and their boys were outside the ground. The came round the the family enclosure terrace gate and started throwing things over the gate ....I remember vaguely my dad panicking and hurling me over the white wall onto the dirt track beside the pitch. Panic for him but tremendous buzz for me.

Believe it or not a door was thrown over the wall and back again several times.

I couldn't remember the item. But I'm sure they were aiming - and missing - at some lads in the wing stand they could see from outside.

A door! Just trying to picture that being done nowadays would be absurd

Arsenal were in the wing stand,  Leicester casuals outside.

I appreciate this is an Away Days thread but it seems to have morphed into home fan culture as well (and sometimes not just in the 80's).

Anyone remember the Kop battle with Villa ?? Found these....

Pen 4 burger bar was dismantled and used for weapons in retaliation I recall seeing.

Some of the worst trouble seen at filbo and surrounding areas.  Sadly city fans singing about the Birmingham pub bombings lit a volatile situation into a very nasty long running battle.

just then she walked in and said I’ve ironed your trousers for you

fastest runner I’ve ever done😀

This is the kind of "winter break" post that could go down in FT history

At filbert street in the 90s, away fans could still pay at the gate.
My girlfriend at the times dad, was a senior steward and always worked the away end in the old east stand.
so I used to rock up early around an hour before KO and  pay at the gate with the few early arriving away fans.
once I was inside, I would then walk down to the front and ask for ******* who would then let me climb over the barrier and walk pitch side and put me into pen 2 or 3.
Worked a treat, no bother until once against West Spam, I arrived late, did the usual but ****** said you’ll have to stay put until the game starts as there’s a high police presence as they are expecting trouble.
So there I sat in silence with the away fans until about 15mins into the game, then he gave me the signal and I jumped over the advertising hoardings and he escorted me into the Leicester end.

With the whole of the Kop applauding  me and chanting  “we’re proud of you” because they thought I was being thrown out of the away end for being a Leicester invader

tbh I couldn’t fight my way out of a paper bag 😍

******* still works at the club 😉

I went to Millwall, old Den. On my own.

Arrived late, Away turnstiles closed.  Crept up to a steward and whispered in his ear.  He told me to follow him.  So I did.  went through the turnstiles next door, he met me the other side. And then escorted me through the home fans, through the gate in the fence, round the pitch and into the away fans enclosure.

Leicesters here, Leicesters there, Leicesters every ********* where

Huge round of applause

etc etc

Never been so scared in all my life

I did pretty much the same as a teenager with my Dad but at Cardiff's Ninnian Park. Funny looking back but not so much at the time :o

I was at that game. Two fans scaled the floodlight where the Leicester fans were. To escape capture, they did a swallow dive from about ten metres up into the crowd, where they were caught and made good their escape

Good old Ant, Banbury afterwards was mental

Great picture and I can see myself. Thanks for posting!

Either April 84 2-0 win or October 84 5-0 win I think.
