I tried watching The Cure but they bored me to tears. Too many songs sounding exactly the same. I guess you need to be a hardcore fan to watch a long set list of theirs.

All I got from Glastonbury is confirmation of something I've long suspected.

Kylie can't sing.

She can but obviously she's getting on a bit now and a live set will push her vocals. Always tough for older singers.

I just watched Christine & The Queens on iPlayer. Great set, and I really liked her latest album. Love her Jacko inspired stage choreography too. Very talented - singer, songwriter, producer, dancer, choreographer, etc.

...And neither can Liam Gallagher. It was like watching a pissed up chav at a Sunday night Karaoke in 'spoons. Dreadful.

As momentous and imperious as the The Cure were, Robert Smith wins the award for what was possibly the most underwhelming entrance in rock history. He wandered onstage like a bemused escaped dementia patient lost in the aisle of a large supermarket. He reminded me of an overwhelmed terrified school child about to fluff his lines in the school play.

I once worked in Crawley, in the 1990s during the heyday of the Cure. Some fella at work started a band and asked me once if he sounded anything like Robert Smith.

Unfortunately, yes, he did.

I got a free album from them once. Vinyl! I found it when I escaped to the West Country and unpacked everything. It was promptly despatched to the bin bag for the charity shop. About a year later I idly riffled through their records hoping to find a gem amongst all the dross other people had thrown out. It was still there!!!

Musically, it was an underwhelming Glastonbury. Most of my enjoyment was away from the stages. Zac Goldsmith, the maverick Tory MP who sees himself as the great environmentalist, talked out in the Speakers Forum by someone from Extinction Rebellion. When this is done at Westminster this is perfectly respectable and the parliamentarians call it filibustering. Overnighting at the Stone Circle. I have absolutely no need to do this as I live only 3 miles away but sleeping in my own bed every night of the festival does not excite. Cramming 12 in one of the pods suspended above a pond in the Green Fields. Those things are about the size of a Vauxhall Corsa inside and I think I was no. 6 to squeeze in. The numbers gradually swelled until there was 12 inside and we were definitely hanging a bit lower above the water. A young lad wanted to come in and those inside just could not hutch up any more. So he clambered up to the entrance and just surfed in on top of the rest of us. And I am convinced I saw Janet Street-Porter in the field by the Acoustic tent. I didn't talk to her or wait for her to open her mouth, and didn't see the point as I don't even like her much. Anyone else see someone famous at the festival? Anyone else go nearly two days before sensing the sweet waft of wacky baccy?

I don't understand the obsession with Stromzy. He is a talentless. Why is everyone in the press rimming him?

Stromzy? Is he a Swedish Stormzy tribute act?

Sorry, at a loose end.....

Wasn't the best headliner line up to be fair.

There were some decent acts Vampire Weekend, George Ezra, Bastille, Killers, Snow Patrol, The Lumineers, Chemical Brothers.

Didn't the Charlatans stand in for these last minute?

How is he talented?

They guy just talks crap into a microphone, that is not music.

But isn't this what music is all about? We all enjoy different genres and styles, and all have our own take on different songs.

If you don't like his style, fine. But if others find his music enjoyable to listen to, surely that makes him talented, no?

Its not really music though to me, its a ma talking into a microphone in silly voice. I get that other people may like 'grime' and that is their choice.

I just don't see what all the hype about him is, its seems consistent with the complete strange place the modern world is where we seem to worship absolute nobodies. To me his behaviour and attitude is glorifying gang culture.

From what I understand he was a pretty intelligent kid at school who made a few mistakes throguh his later childhood and early adolescence, and is now using his high profile to highlight the struggles of young Black and Asian kids, mental health stigma, Grenfell and numerous other worthy causes. He's not my cup of tea really, but he is a role model for thousands of young, underprivelleged and ambitious children/teens/young adults across Britain and there are far worse examples set than by him.

It's a lazy stereotype to suggest that he's glorifying gang culture and I'm not entirely sure how you can declare that he is an 'absolute nobody'.

they were literally playing stormzy singing on songs of praise yesterday.

“just a man talking” and “glorifying gang culture”. just because he raps sometimes and he’s from LDN. classic FT.

Clearly we disagree.

I am not sure how he isn't glorifying gang culture by going on about it all the time, wearing union jack stab vest is normalising something that shouldn't be normalised. I am sure if the Police increased stop and search he would claim in was racist or something to do with the rich, of which he is one!

He could quite frankly solve most of the issues he highlights by donating more of his money. Again he is a classic case of a celebrity who can make criticisms of the real world from his golden pedestal. If all of these celebrities wrote an extra cheque to HMRC instead of banging on about it in public arenas/social media to gain attention (which is what its about), I am sure many issues could be resolved. Of course not many of them actually do care.

They were literally doing it or actually? My word what is the world coming to if that really is the case. Although the BBC loving him up ridiculously so no surprise there.

Its not really 'singing' is it?!

Its nothing to do with him being from London or because he raps, its because he glorifies gang culture by constantly jabbering on about it in his Lyrics. He wore a stab vest on stage at Glastonbury, everyone thinks he is 'making a statement'. Just stop and search people likely to have knives/guns.

Have you seen most of his lyrics? They are poor. Classic FT indeed......classic the world it seems.

'Going on about it all the time' doesn't really been he is gloryfing it though, does it? He's spoken out numerous times about the knife crime, gun crime, violence etc and is doing far more to eradicate it and show vulnerable and naive young people that there other options out there for them. Also, some of the greatest bands and artists ever have consistently referenced drugs, sex, violence etc and received less than 1% of the negative press that Stormzy has. Simply referencing things that exist does not mean glorification either, I am a massive fan of the Libertines and The Beatles and, thus far anyway, I've succesfully managed to never take heroin or LSD.

Yeah I guess he could donate some money, maybe give £9k to allow an underprivellged girl go to Harvard to continue her studies and advance her career? https://www.huffingtonpost.co.uk/entry/stormzy-donated-fan-crowdfunding-harvard-university_uk_591afb1be4b05dd15f0b3904?guccounter=1&guce_referrer=aHR0cHM6Ly93d3cuZ29vZ2xlLmNvbS8&guce_referrer_sig=AQAAAITwavT_FJwkLmHxWUctQ2Ar6k65y8cfeKzvEzQ1_LFecbs-fNeLrEURwfxoBYsfzb3NMBK_Fzvdyk2_MVSKBkIkPeqEFZv0HMtHNJiy7tTfwbBn8ZeJc-fQ6Pr2RcNmMCCYvMFrdyeTY56CIKtkgou96nOG5bzmrJmziQJ-md_9

Oh yeah, he's so wrong stop and search too. I mean black people are only 10x more likely to be stopped and searched than white people, but the vast majority of say knife possession, for example, is by black people so that seems fair enough, right?

Some people just cannot handle it the moment any celebrity speaks out about something that they feel strongly about. Whether it be Sterling, Stormzy or whomever, there is a crowd of people who want them to either get back in their hole and shuttup or donate half their earnings to charity, otherwise they're just hypocrites. Meanwhile the vast majority of the crowd wouldn't toss a 2p coin to a homeless man or do any charity work themselves.
