Donuts

You must be an old timer to join in this one.

Anyone remember the donut sellers? Walking around the perimeter of the pitch at Filbert Street selling donuts in little paper bags?

Think they walked around the whole game. I remember them in 1974/5, but I was a new fan back then so wondered if it was a new thing or not?

The story was that one of them got robbed of the cash once so they stopped it.

Would be great to know how long it went on for? Was it just LCFC who did it? Was it a LCFC venture or was it a company that came in?

I seem to recall having them on a few occasions

Love Plain Donuts. Crispy on the outside and cakelike on the inside. With a little knob for dunking for coffee and Fresh Apple cider, Crapified like everything else.

Now I pay 2.50 for sugar covered with sugar. Jesus Wept. Yes.... he did.

If i remember rightly, the food kiosk at the back of pen one of the kop, was smashed up and robbed by the Man Utd fans whe were in there on the day.

I`m not sure if thats where the donuts were made, but i seem to remember it was after that when the donuts stopped being sold.

I wasn't in Leicester as a kid, but was taken to a couple of matches in London in that era (early to mid-70s).

I don't remember doughnuts but do remember them selling roast chestnuts from stalls outside the ground.

Great smell, OK taste, I thought at the time. But I've had roast chestnuts since from street sellers in Lisbon and liked them.

I also remember the good old days when it was "doughnuts" and not "donuts".

Sorry for the multiple digression....

I was at a St Pauli game in Hamburg 20-25 years ago and at half time there were sellers walking round pitchside with baskets of bread, not filled rolls but whole loaves of all shapes and sizes. I could just imagine Millwall fans going for the baguettes as potential weaponry as I deflect their strikes with my shield sized / shaped sourdough bloomer. The away section being sandwiched by the home fans would have a whole new meaning.

If my memory serves me well, the doughnuts were warmed up in a kiosk at the back of Pen 1 (before it was a designated away pen) & a couple of kids would walk around the pitch knocking them out at 10p for a bag of 2. Lovely 😊

Yes remember the doughnut but at the back of pen 1.

Used to get tips from the adults wanting to buy them but couldn't get through from pen 2.

League cup tie against Portsmouth in 1975 I think I made £2 which I thought was a fortune then😁

I swear they were here in grocery stores for a spell.

It's probably better that there's a distance between me and those donuts.

You don't need to ashamed of your little knob. It's something a lot of us have to accept!

I remember those donut sellers, certainly from 1974. They were lovely, sitting on the wall to the right of the tunnel, and enjoying a pre match fatty munch.

Before my time. I do remember the lady who used to sell the programs inside filbert street. Think she moved over to the KP for a while too

I love my little knob! ESPECIALLY on the end of my doughnut.

Yes they were and perhaps still are. I never bought them though. Gotta get fresh from the store hot off the oil and sugar rack lol

I thought it was something about Man U fans. So pretty sure you must be spot on with your memory there
