Luke Thomas at Centre Back. He looks far more comfortable. Really enjoyed his aggression and strength to outmuscle strikers and now more passing lanes are open to him, he doesn't panic than he does on the left side.

 

I am comfortable with Russell continuing to run with him and macfarlane on the left side.

He’s had Souttar beside him and an outstanding Macfarlane on the other.

 

Hes looked relatively solid but not really stood out or anywhere near as good as the above two.

 

There have still been times where hes been outmuscled and obviously done in the air.

 

I just hope if RM brings in O’Hora or Niemi then its for LT and not Macfarlane.

By rights someone as weedy as Thomas should struggle with the physicality of playing CB - and I still think if and when we come up against bigger attacking lines he will do.

 

But he's been excellent, save for one or two moments. Yes we're still leaking the odd chance but most of that is stemming from the style of play. Ultimately , we've put him in there and it's resulted in back to back clean sheets for what must be the first time in years.

 

What a strange and pleasant surprise it's been. Turns out he's alright at defending after all, when he's not required to track up and down the wing or man mark pacy opposing wingers. If he gets on the weights in the coming months he could carve out a new niche for himself and maybe save us some money since he's unlikely to be going anywhere. He might even be a good utility option at CDM if he can continue to work on his physicality, as he's not bad at ball playing - which is presumably why Martin has put him there in the first place.

He now has all the pitch in front of him and as Glen Hoddle used to say can see all the pictures, so passing out has been good ( apart from him and our keeper on Tuesday on one scary occasion). 
Also not tethered to the touch line with a midfield Inside of him that didn’t want it, and a very sulky useless lump in front of him ( Mavadidi) , who neither wanted the ball or helped him out defensively. This switch has shown that despite his lack of physicality, he is a footballer ( Those who’ve never played or don’t understand that ignore the last bit).

Correct me if im wrong, but generally speaking a really good quality left back can normally “do a job” at a left or right in a back 3. 
 

but normally rule of football law is that a really bad left back who is positionally bad will never ever be a good centre back.

 

As we dominate possession its hard to see but as soon as we are under the cosh it just all seems very hectic and last minute tackles etc. once we have another propper centre back who is good on the ball i think them hectic moments wont be as much.

At fault for so much of today.  I realise he is following orders, but he is embarrassing to watch. 

 

Weak in defence, can't pass to the left had side, poor at passing, poor awareness.  Lets keep him at CB and control the attacks.

Both were disgraceful. Both paid to defend, which Luke has shown for years he can’t do. Should never play for the club again.

I wonder if Luke Thomas thinks life for all professional footballers is embarrassing performance and defeat every week, then you inexplicably get paid loads and live a life of luxury.

 

It's all he's ever known.

I refer to a previous comment I made . This guy is possibly the worst player I’ve seen at city. Always out of position without the ball constantly shit with it . He’s not a professional standard footballer .

No, it wasn't..

 

He was up against a winger better than him.

 

I watched him to see how he'd cope. And for a young lad, he did a lot of things right when a full back ie up against  a better opponent (exhibit A, he ran quickly back into position, rather than chase the player, when he got skinned once.....and his eyes had the wherewithal to check the line while running back. LT would've just attempted his usual method of a failed rugby tackle) 

 

Back to the theme, LT is a loser. As in it is all he's ever known. For that alone, I'd never have him.near a squad, let alone a team. His loser aura is contagious. Aside from the fact he's amateur level.

Thomas tried to blame him for a goal when it was him that stood off and got turned instead of closing down or blocking.
