Stokes and Atkinson involved in a nightclub ‘incident’ early hours. ECB statement just released.

Celebrating the win. Where’s the rest of them?

An 'incident' indicates more than just celebrating...

Gus Atkinson doesn't seem the type to be honest. Looks a really quiet lad.

Hopefully its the case of them being targeted by some knobhead public member and getting involved when they shouldn't have. But then unfortunately they shouldn't be near it.

Had a really bad time as his mum got killed not long ago by a drug driver so I hope they don’t go hard on him :(

Perfect excuse to bring Archer back for Atkinson.

Maybe Harry Brook will be captain - a fine model of staying out of trouble and being professional of course.

Feels inevitable.

'does a broken curfew amount to so much'

Erm, yes? Given you're the captain, you surely have to be setting the good/best examples?

Saw someone ask what's the point in having a 'head of security' there when curfew is going to be broken anyway. Granted we don't fully know the situation or reasons as to who ended up where, but it does raise the intrigue about the whole matter.

Stokes is 35.

What TF is he doing still going to nightclubs ?  lol

Enjoying his free time as an adult?

Don't agree with a curfew anyway, apart from during a test match or maybe on an overseas tour. Does the curfew cover weekends when they are with their families lol

It's stupid of Stokes to be out, at his age he should be able to celebrate with a few drinks in calm circumstances. Then this avoids anything happening.

He's not some nobody though. He's England captain and has responsibility of behaving himself at all times.

Cricket, not just English cricket has an issue with drink. I honestly can’t think of any other  “top” sport that the “athletes” go on the booze so often.

In a sport where you have to potentially concentrate for 5 days straight let alone the physical exertion what it requires why on earth would you be going out on the lash in between games.

this hole England set up seems so rotten, and it comes from the top. Doesn’t seem to be an discipline.

i love stokes as a cricketer but i do question him as a leader.

There's a reason for that, though. In what other sport are you away from home as regularly for as long? And you've got 8+ hours a day of potentially needing to be switched on each day, especially if you're the captain.

I can't imagine how bored snd tempted I'd be by all sorts of things if I was a pro cricketer. I can't blame any of them for letting loose every now and then, especially after a win with a day to spare like that.

That said, they did need to clean up their act and they haven't. But that's a failure of culture, not just of one individual in a leadership role. If Stokes does go then he can't just be the fall guy. Others above him should follow suit.

How often is too often? A couple of nights when they are away for 3 months, maybe more and as far as we know this could be the first time they've been out in ages. Importantly after a match has finished, 10 days before the next one. Not like they are going between days 2 and 3 like 80s lol

Problem is not the going out, its that they can't avoid trouble when they do. Whether that's because they are dickheads or whether they can't handle any negative attention they receive.

Ultimately though, they can avoid any issues by being smarter, and the captain should be setting the example. Don't begrudge them a few drinks after a win, but needs to some sort of self control. If you need to take security out with you, it's probably not worth it.

If you were the England cricket team, it really wouldn’t be that hard to get a corner of a pub sorted out especially on a Sunday night when they’re completely dead. And if you need to get paralytic then do it in that setting, or even a hotel bar.

If they'd gone to a real ale pub for a couple of jars they'd be none of this.

Worst crime for me is going to this White Horse and Rex Rooms, full of Hooray Henrys and Sloan Rangers, the sort of places ex-Prince Andrew used to frequent. I thought Stokes had more class.

Hear hear man, he was literally drinking rum and cokes. Get him on the session IPA’s and it’ll be all fine.
