Jadeja deserved a ton. Short ball did him in the end. I don't expect the tail to hang around much longer.

We need at least 500 here though.

Agree, and tbh I can see India surpassing it.

We’ll then see what the pitch is like, although you can have half an inkling, it’s always best judged after both teams have batted.

Bowlers aren't great but it's a tough job. Back to back roads of a wicket, long overs for the same bowlers.

Woakes biggest threat is at the beginning, when to be fair, on another day he'd have had 3 and we might've been looking at different innings.

Actually quite like Carse, but he's clearly struggling now. He's a 3rd seamer rather than you're main two though.

Tongue hasn't even remotely looked like getting anyone decent out.

Then you have Bashir who doesn't offer any threat, although admittedly on a non-friendly pitch.

Going to have to hope the batters can respond.

A bit of talk about India declaring but they should bat as long as possible, England will move the game along one way or another. If they can be at 700 come close today, they’ll be at about par given the superiority of englands batting.

Looks like a nailed on draw now unless the England batting line up have a total meltdown, twice.

England can still win. Get a quick 500, bowl them out in the second for 200, then chase 400 on the last day.

One thing this all is showing is that Atkinson and at least one of Wood or Archer is needed to supplement this attack.

I would add finding a quality spinner, but that seems like a unicorn hunt right now.

Yep.

Don't think india will make the same mistakes as Hedingley........they will want to bat England out of the test.

That’s the only way Bashir seems to get wickets. Getting slogged and them misjudging it.

Yeah, I really don't see what he offers if I'm honest. For me, Root always looks more likely to pick up wickets. He might improve, but I think Bashir is just very mediocre.

To anyone who watches a lot of cricket are these really our best bowlers?

Wood should be back before the 5th Test

I won’t include Joffra as he’ll he injured again before November anyway

I reckon that's probably the idea with Bashir, don't worry about how many and how quickly he concedes, as he'll likely pick up wickets from people going after him.

You’re probably right, and that’s ok if the seamers aren’t going for as many as they have done.

Just had a look and he has a better strike rate than Nathan Lyon, but he's never going to keep things tight, which is a pain as you say when the seamers are also taking a pasting.

I’d bite your hands off for a draw right now!

The England batting lineup is at least as good as the Indian one here, and the Indian attack sans Bumrah is certainly no more threatening than the English one. If they don't at least match this first innings total, it'll be because of sloppy errors - which is of course possible.

I may have underestimated the possibility.
