This isn't the joke thread.

Come on then which have I got wrong!!?

I never said they were bad films (though some are) just overrated now. Some were not rated at the time at all (I.e the Thing)

Overrated, Titanic, what a load of bull and anglophobic nonsense.

Underrated, Starship Troopers, seems some people think that it glorifies fascism when in fact it’s quite the opposite

It's like American History X's depiction of nazis.  If the thing being depicted appeals to you then the message will go straight over your head and you're left with a film showing the cool shit you wish you could get away with.

Wtf why

Didn’t see the appeal really once I’d watched it. Then again I’m someone who thinks The Shawshank Redemption can in no way be deemed overrrated.

Blade runner is a masterpiece probably sits about right for how good it is. 2049 on the other hand is almost as good and never gets a mention. Amazing they could make something that seemed like it needed to be told 30 odd years after the original, when so many of these types of films just stink of money grabbing this one stood out as being done the right way.

As an aside I think every film by Denis Villeneuve is wildly underrated. Prisoners, Arrival, Blade Runner 2049, Sicario. All 9 out of 10 or better in my mind and I can't wait for Dune as a result, but I don't think he gets much praise at all.

Underrated - Dawn of the Dead (2004 Zack Snyder version). Great zombie film.

Also underrated - Nacho Libre - absolutely love Jack Black in it, makes me laugh every time I watch it.

Overrated- Any King Kong film , nobody ever explains why a massive monkey exists, did he have a massive mum and dad ? Makes no sense

Underrated - Litle Miss Sunshine, got some praise when it came out but kind of forgotten these days but I watch it when I need a lift

Dunno if this is the right place but Deadpool is ****ing stupid and the studios making it have made mugs of all those who went to see it.

Hot, shit covered garbage.

Platoon for me is one of the best films which really encapsulated what a pointless war Vietnam was but also the struggles for many about it - of course Oliver Stone was a vet so that probably makes it more in tune to be fair

underrated by many

Deadpool and Deadpool 2 are the most watchable of the superhero franchise.  I thought they were funny.

Alien3 underrated there’s a good story in there and a who’s who of bald British actors, it’s a good addition to the franchise.

As a huge sci-fi and Alien geek, I agree. I think time has led many to reevaluate it.

It still could - and should - have been better though. I remember reading somewhere that some of the original scripts and concepts are legendarily good "films to never be made" but Fox kept asking for rewrites.

Many forget that it was the great David Fincher who directed it, too.

He's since stated he "hates it" citing constant studio interference for the way it turned out...

John Carpenters The Thing is a great movie and no way does it belong on the overrated list, amazing special effects and good soundtrack as well.

haha from one Alien geek to another!
I always watch the directors cut not the cinema version of Alien 3, yes it was disappointing how Hicks and Newt were unceremoniously killed off but that shouldn’t detract from what is a good story.

I know it was a complete nightmare film to direct, originally wasn’t it supposed to be a planet habituated by monks?

On a geeky side note do you collect the NECA Alien figures?

No, I've seen them but action figures aren't allowed by order of the other half.

Kong Island's always been depicted as a place filled with prehistoric/fictitious megafauna.  I think he's supposed to be the last of his species so yeah his mum and dad would have been pretty big too you'd assume.

A building-sized gorilla becoming violently enamoured with a human female though?  That's what doesn't make sense.  Assuming Kong's end goal is to mate he'd surely tear her in half, literally, not in the lads lads lads sense.

Under rated:

Carlitos Way

A.I. - Artificial Intelligence

Both great films, Sean Penn was superb in Carlitos Way as was Al Pacino.

Another great Al Pacino film many might have missed is Dog Day Afternoon.

One of the best modern British films that never gets mentioned:Children of Men

Children of men as a concept was brilliant. Great story line
