Hate seeing the demise of stations but I'm guessing Beeching had a lot to do with these. That said I do like seeing when architecture has been kept.

The old central station is currently under development.

I love old railway photographs . Some of the old pictures showing the building of embankments, excavating cuttings and constructing viaducts are also worth tracking down . Manual labour and steam powered excavators and staggering engineering challenges overcome in the mid  19th century . Fantastic .

This was before they cut through the Lane and built the railway bridge.

Heartbreaking really…. What we’d give to have maintained that infrastructure now…. ???

Just round the corner from me there is a huge tram shelter (presumably where the tram terminated?)

Having a tram network is Soulsby’s wet dream…. Imagine having trains too…

Dare I say cities like Nottingham and Birmingham have held on to their character and infrastructure. Breaks my heart to see what could have been here in Leicester

As a Birmingham resident, I wouldn’t put character high on its list. There’s a decent inner city train line but tram was still only put in three years ago like Nottingham.

Manchester has a superb tram/train system

Nottingham received significantly more government money to develop their infrastructure/transport.

Leicestershire is the worst financial supported County in the UK from the government.

Why is that? I can't think of a decent reason other than a political one. I get that the City has long been Labour held but the majority of the County is Tory so why are we missing out?

Not enough people shouting loud enough.

It's the system they use to calculate how much financial support from the government should be given. We come out bottom.

Some info here although a bit out of date as it talks about a review in 2019 which obviously didn't happen probably due to Brexit and now Covid.

Who remembers the Vic Berry scrapyard... railway breakers yard where Bede Island now is. There was a large fire in the early 90s, sending asbestos all over the city. Whole area got cleared and redeveloped.

May be a black-and-white image of outdoors

May be an image of train, railway and text that says "Countesthorpe Station PN1827"

May be a black-and-white image of railway and text that says "BLABY"

As a very young lad I used to get the train on my own from London Road Station where I was dropped off to Blaby to be met by and Aunt.

The photo labelled "Humberstone". Was that on Humberstone Rd next to what was a timber yard? I remember getting off there back in the 60s coming back from Skegness.

Don't mean the one of "Humberstone Rd", which I know was opposite St Barnabas Rd.

I'm not sure I know there was one adjacent to the Bridge near Vulcan Road but that wasn't an area I went to in my young days.

I used to play in that tunnel as a kid: the image below shows what used to be Ingarsby station (X) and the direction of the old line. If you take a look on Google maps, you should be able to draw a line to where the railway bridge was on Station Lane (Scraptoft) and find it that way. It used to be blocked by a corrugated iron sheet and is probably overgrown with vegetation now.
