I must be in a very small minority in not giving a toss about 'local' rivals, other than for the pantomime nonsense it engenders.

I'm with you. I'd much rather stick it up the likes of Manchester United. I suppose I'm just looking for a different pantomime then though, so it doesn't really make me any different. I'd also rather other Midlands clubs do well than the Northern or Southern clubs, so long as they never do better than we do. I don't know if that's strange.

Do you have clubs you'd rather hammer? Or do you just want to hammer them all? Serious question by the way.

We never did either for years.

Ouch I didn't realise that, shame as its a nice ground. I looked up the current market value of the club and it's saying its £15m? Our backup striker is valued as £15m let alone the whole club. I'm could be under par in reality though.

I just want us to win every game - maybe it's stage of life stuff, maybe it's just realising that hatred of others harms me inside. I'm not judging others if they get off on it, but I find it unhealthy for me.

I don’t think it’s actual hatred, it’s just an added layer to competition. I don’t actually hate anyone or any team - that’s just odd.

Yes, unhealthy for me too, I can get a little silly about it though. To be honest, it's really always been Liverpool and Manchester United for me. The two dominant forces in my lifetime. The Liverpool team just annoyed me as a kid because it just seemed they always won. I also thought Ian Rush looked creepy (sorry Rushie, no explaining a youngsters fears). I actually never minded the players at Man Utd, mainly, it was just the manager. Whilst being probably the finest British manager ever, his antics are clear for all to see today in many other managers. I suppose he had to be that way to be so successful, but he didn't leave a good legacy in my humble opinion.

I'm pleased to hear that, but I think you'll find some people who go to the football absolutely burn with hatred - I've heard it and seen it turned on our own team, never mind local rivals.

It’s at the stage now where financially and ability wise we are so far ahead of them it would need a gigantic swing to level us out again, if any of them came up they would shit their pants at playing us! Be nice to have one of them in the cup and just annihilate them

I agree.

I don't genuinely hate any teams but I think some do.

I live in Hinckley and it is definitely one sided with our despising of us; however obviously there was the brawl in 2008

I don’t particularly hate Forest. Derby and Coventry but I still take  small interest in their efforts and like to laugh at their struggles, especially Derby this season. Or perhaps that’s the Leicester fan in me that still takes an interest in the championship.

I reckon Forest will be up there next season as Hughton is a decent manager at that level

I can't stand Spurs ever since the run-in to winning the league. I will never forget the arrogance of their fans. The fact they finished third was great payback though.

And Arsenal to some extent when all of that was going on. The arrogance of both fan bases was remarkable. At the time I lived between the Emirates and White Shart Lane, and to say I enjoyed wearing my LCFC shirt is a huge understatement.

Most definitely.(o.p)

With our rivals .A lot depends on age, geography etc.
I live in the city and it is and was forest and derby .
Growing  up we seem to play derby more , but forest was always the one for me.
Chelsea has always been a rival also , 70s 80s ( dads era) which is why I always felt we would win the cup against them . Years and years of pay back.

I’ve never been particularly bothered about the whole: “we’re your rivals” debate. It often disintegrates into a juvenile debate of: “we hate you... you hate them ... yeah, but we’re bigger than you ... etc.”

It’s a personal thing, but the team I hate most of all is Manchester United because, as a club, it represents everything that is bad about football. That’s not to say I expect them to “care” about Leicester and have no interest whether they do or not, although in the last two seasons it might have been pretty foolish of them not to.

I always find the Forest/Derby rivalry weird. It’s not based on hate, but a need for self affirmation that their support actually means something. In a wider footballing perspective it really means absolutely nothing. I can’t see it’s done either club much good in recent years.

In terms of: “leaving rivals behind” then it depends who you consider rivals. Our direct competitors for league position has changed dramatically in recent years.  If it means our geographical close competitors (in terms of recruiting players, finding new supporters and building a fan base) - then yes we have. We shouldn’t, however, get complacent and stay humble. It could all change with one decent owner taking over elsewhere and keeping our feet on the ground stops  our fan base becoming entitled - see Man Utd above.

I know not everybody shares this view, but I want to see our local rivals in the Premier League with us. For me it makes games more intense and more exciting in the ground and ultimately that's why I love live football. The bedlam in the away end when Knockaert scored in the last minute at Forest away in 2013 to clinch that final play off position still makes me smile today

Wasn’t there regular fights in Nuneaton and Hinckley?

I remember in the early 90s going to Maguluf and there was about 20 lads from Hinckley, called themselves the Hinckley Legion, I remember one lad called I think his name was joey, hated Cov with passion

The 2-2 draw with Coventry in 2010 was the first time in a long time there was a real edge to the game

You could see the animosity between the fans.

For the record I live near Lutterworth, and it’s always been Cov for me, obviously people North of Leicester and Leicester itself will have a dislike for Forest.

Derby like others have said was quite big in the 80s and 90s, but had pretty much fizzled out after that.

This is the same for me too. There’s a real edge to their thoughts on us and I know plenty from around south Leicestershire who feel the same about them.

I was always most buzzing for our games against Cov back in the early 2000’s, Forest and Derby equally just behind. Cov was always the first fixture I’d look for. Always loved going to the Ricoh too because we usually took absolutely loads.

However Forest away always feels like the “biggest” away of the three for me in terms of occasion - but I think that’s down to being in Nottingham/the walk to the ground etc.

Forest was our only close rival since Pearson's first stint.

We were way ahead of Derby for almost all of 2009-14.

Harsh on them to say but both are at this stage almost an irrelevance.

In the Premier League era we are closing in on matching the amount of seasons Forest, Derby and Cov have spent in the PL combined. Remarkable.

Our strongest current rivals are the likes of Villa, Spurs, Chelsea.

In the EPL era we something like the 5th or 6th most successful club, its amazing and a great time to support our club.

2 league cups

FA cup

Title win

We dont have many uneventful mid table seasons, mostly either relegation battle or promotion/cup run. :)

There is a caption doing the rounds highlighting that LCFC has become only the 5th club to win all 3 major trophies this century.

Our rivalry with Cov would really grow as a rivalry if they were promoted, the reaction from both set of fans when we drew each other in the cup last season says it all its far from dead.

Forest and Derby can stay down though, if either one of them came up they’d just be constantly telling us how much they don’t care while forcing rivalry’s with teams that don’t care about them. Also think their failures help us grow in some ways more so than Cov’s failures.

You’re only as good as your current division and form.

Our rivals really depend where and when you grew up. All the Hinckley and Lutterworth fans hate Cov, whereas I don’t really have any strong feelings about them. I actually feel very sorry for their fans for what’s happened to them over the past decade.

All the Coalville and Ashby lot hate Derby. I considered them big rivals back when we had M O’N and they had Jim Smith, and we were very similar teams in terms of our level. These days, I’m quite mellow about them. In fact hearing they’re in dire financial straits actually made me feel a bit sad for them because, after all, they’re a fairly ‘genuine’ club. In my experience, their fans have always been pretty honest about the state of their club at any given time.

Growing up in Loughborough and now living in Melton, I absolutely HATE the Forest. I hate them. Growing up watching football in the 90s, the local TV was obsessed with them, basically ignoring us and Derby. They’ve been consistently absolute shit for well over 20 years now, yet their fan base seems to believe they’re a giant club just experience a blip. They don’t seem to understand that the Clough era was a flash in the pan.

Last time they were good, my family TV didn’t have Teletext or a remote.

They also do their weird thing where they pretend not to have any rivalry with us, but that doesn’t stop them whinging and moaning about us. It also seems to go out of the window on the now rare occasions when we actually play them.

I admit I hated growing up and them winning things, but boy it feels good now, and this rubbish they don’t care about us they certainly do but hate to admit it.
