I know threads about our rivalries are a long-running joke on FoxesTalk but since it’s close-season I was wondering if anyone else is starting to think our ‘rivalries’ with Forest, Derby and Cov are dead for a generation?

and if so, have your views on who you ‘hate’ the most changed?

Incidentally, some friends of mine are collecting data on football rivalries here; https://umassamherst.co1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_3FdJ8eN2EgFCfCB?mbsrc=krdir where you assign 100 rivalry points to all the teams you hate.

so, if you had to do so - who would they go to?

Our rivals are generally situational.

At different stages it was Peterborough, Watford, Plymouth, Wolves, Spurs, Burnley.

No idea who it would even be now if anyone, it looked likely Wolves would be our natural medium to long term rivals but that seemed to dissolve very quickly.

Forest was our only close rival since Pearson's first stint.

We were way ahead of Derby for almost all of 2009-14.

Harsh on them to say but both are at this stage almost an irrelevance.

In the Premier League era we are closing in on matching the amount of seasons Forest, Derby and Cov have spent in the PL combined. Remarkable.

Our strongest current rivals are the likes of Villa, Spurs, Chelsea.

West Brom being in the Premier as well as Wolves not having the best season themselves when someway with that. There are far too many clubs around Birmingham/the Black Country for any intense rivalry. Villa will always hate Blues and West Brom. West Brom and Wolves hate eachother and would both put Villa way before us.

None of those listed at the end could give a monkeys about us.

Ownership is probably the biggest factor in long term success, Forest and Derby are both owned by jokers so they’ll be behind us for a while.

Cov’s owners are morons but the football side of things seem to be actually ok at the minute. @BenTheFoxis right, they’ll be up before Forest and Derby.

In many respects Cov should be our biggest rival. Closest city and they don't have an out-and-out rivalry themselves really, as they're not in the Birmingham/Black Country loop. Blues and Villa don't really care about them and neither do West Brom or Wolves.

Cov

Forest

In the Premier League it's whoever we care battling out with.

Plus they really hate us.

I'd say from our point of view they would be some of our closest rivals I can think of. Villa is always a grudge match for us and Spurs are almost on an equal footing nowadays

I wouldn't have said Chelsea but the events during and after the cup final has caused something of a stir.

Forest have a manager that has been there and done it in the championship so maybe they have a chance. However, the two occasions where he was promoted were with Newcastle, who had easily the best squad in the league and Brighton, who already had solid foundations having only just missed out on a couple of soccassions before they went up.

I agree, let Derby and Forest have their little wan kathon and the strangest rivalry in football. Its a bit like if Bradford and Huddersfield boasted about having a rivalry with each other instead of Leeds.

But they’re not really on the same level as us size wise are they?

25 odd seasons in the third tier, one major trophy. I personally don’t feel competitive with them because they literally have nothing over us.
