So what you are saying, there is no point in football, because we will always fail to compete with the big boys, financially. Wonder if Blackpool, Notts County etc thought they would always rule the footy world back in the 1930's.

I don't expect to see a sismic change in 5 years, but just maybe, 15 years down the line we may be able to compete. Let's face  it, where would  Man City and Chelsea be without their oil money.

It was only a few years a go when my lofty ambitions for Leicester were to be the "new Stoke".

We're now one of the top 20 rated clubs in the world and that was unthinkable when I was growing up. We're ahead of traditional European powerhouses like Celtic, Ajax, Benfica, etc or at least in the sense we would buy their best players not the other way round.

Never say never and maybe we can still climb further but almost certainly we're more likely to fall from our lofty position than climb, just enjoy the times we have been blessed with.

Makes no sense, they’d snap his bloody hand off. Yeah sure 4 is better, but at this stage it’s about protecting his value because he WILL be off at some point. You can’t let it get down to one year left,* so you either cash in now or extend a year and cash in next summer.

*Our tactic is selling high and reinvesting in a few players. Leaving it to one season means we’d be lucky to get our money back.

I've always thought two years on the contract is the pivot point when the power goes from the club to the player, especially if that player is of relative high value to the selling club.

If Tielemans won't sign a new deal then anything over £60m should be considered. I've no problem if he does leave as long as we get top money, there is a lot to be said for selling a player when he has hit his probable peak value. I was happy to sell Drinkwater, Maguire and Chilwell for the prices at the time. Less so Mahrez because he was an exceptional player but with him wanting out and being nearly 27.5yo when we sold him for £60m that wasn't a bad deal for us. The only one that annoyed was Kante but we made the best of a bad situation squeezing £10m more than his release clause out of Chelsea when he would have just gone elsewhere for £22m.

If you're a club that uses the transfer market to your advantage then it's good business to sell Tielemans for big money and for him to fund the summer transfer business. I hope he stays but if not then that's the game we try to play to buy low, sell high and aim to buy the next best young player.

Youri is his agents’s biggest asset by A loooooong way. He nsturally would be feeding such stories to Belgian press...

People instantly think the agent will be pushing for a big money move but that's not necessarily true. With a big money move the agent only gets paid once.

The ideal situation for the agent would be negotiate a new deal for him at Leicester that protects the player and the club (the player from injury the club from his contract winding down) Then sell him next year to a huge club. Much the way Maguires agent played it.

To think that there was a time, particularly during the 2019/20 season, that many FTers would snap your hand off if you offered what we had paid for Youri to take him off our hands. How times do change! lol

Tielemans is irreplaceable for our champions league aspirations unless we have another diamond up our sleeve transfer target wise.

I think missing out on champions league football this season has made his mind up sadly :(

Place your asset when his price is highest

that’s the agent’s job

As I said some time ago, a move now gives him another option when he’s 27/28 so that two paydays

waiting a year could mean he can only fit one big move in

YT may have some very attractive options on the table which might not be there in a years time. He could pick up an injury. And from our perspective we could get 60m now whereas in a years time we would likely just get our money back.

if he goes then we just have to get on with it - I felt Brendan prepared us when he said he want leaving but others might.

We simply wouldn’t let him go unless we had a ready replacement. Soumare is another piece in our armoury he’s no replacement..... I can’t see this happening in a million years, not this season anyway. And the figure would be obscene. £100+million.

It wouldn't be anywhere near £100m unless he was on at least a 3 year contract and he hadn't handed in a transfer request

I think champions league aspirations looks further away than ever, there is deffo a glass ceiling and we've hit it, perhaps we should have strengthened in January.

He'd lose any loyalty bonus then, so I'd assume he wouldn't.

in a market where Kane is being talked about @ 100m, I really don’t see more than 60m

In which case I'd rather we run down his contract and let him have two more years here, as long as he is willing to do so. In the meantime we can sign his replacement and coach him to come in when Youri leaves.

Nothing more other than he’s allegedly open to a move to a cub who have CL football..... nothing more than that.... so I’d say there’s potentially a 60% chance he could be gone. Which isn’t clever for us.

Id be fuming if he goes to Liverpool though. They’ve done my ****ing tree on this season, then and their cheese grater voiced fans.

He won't hand in a transfer request. Doesn't mean he might not force a move.

I'd be gutted if it truly wasn't a massive club.

I don't think he'd fit the Liverpool system, it'll be Fabinho, Thiago and Henderson. Youri plays that Thiago role and well you wouldn't drop him.

For sure, I was just saying he wouldn't likely hand in a transfer request.

nice ‘ press release’ by the agent. That’s another 10 grand a week on his extension.

Its not even a press release. Its a made up article by teamtalk, one of the worst sources out there.

£60m and Thiago? I could live with that.

I don't think youri seems the type driven by money, he has much of his career still ahead of him, seems very switched on and unless we can outmatch Liverpool, Man utd or another club in wages, what he loses on loyalty bonus he'd make up in wages, but it wouldn't come to that, he has 2 years left, all he has to do is say he's not signing a new contract and that's as good as a transfer request, because we can't afford to let his contract run down to 1 year left.
