I just want players who are better than Albrighton and Perez that can play on the right. Don't particularly care if they're a great guy or do some very flimsy defensive work. I want players that scare other teams, that can create and score goals.

...we do play 4-14-1!!!

But like most thing playing a variation on a theme is now the norm, so a wide attacking player would suffice.

This might be a bit pedantic, but I don't think we've used 4141 since Youri was here on loan before he signed permanently. The back 4 formation we've been using is more of a 4231, isn't it?

Anyway, I think we've very nearly got a fantastic squad to play a 4231. I think it is just that player on the right of the 3 behind the striker that needs improving upon, whether you want to label it a RW or whatever else.

Someone claimed that Rodgers thinks Sowah could be the player we need. I think that's great news if true.

It's been a high priority for a long time now, and although it clearly isn't easy, I hope we can find a solution soon, because I think it could very well be the difference.

I do understand why the club have made signings in other areas, though. I suspect the deals for Daka and Soumare were too good to pass up on, and, while they might not seem like the top priority areas of the squad, they do add real depth to the squad. I expect it's probably the case that there hasn't been a RW on the market that represented the same sort of value for money as those deals did, and I think adding depth was about as important as finding the elusive RW was. We should be able to avoid quite so many injuries through rotation now, and we'll also be much better prepared to handle injuries when they do happen on top of that.

Yes. The more options available to unlock stubborn defences the better. So long as whoever they eventually sign has something different to bring to the current squad. Love him or hate him, Mahrez had tricks aplenty that we've never been able to replace.

‘None of the above’.

I’d like a RW but not one to replace Mahrez as that’s just not possible.
I want someone who can either frighten people with pace, or someone who can unlock defences with unpredictable skill. Pereira could be the latter.

Not really. Shift out 3 or 4 and if Benko has a good pre-season, we are ready to go if we keep Youri.  Any spare spondulix should be passed to YT.

Yeah, if Albrighton or Perez play a significant amount of minutes then we've not recruited well enough in that position for what, the third consecutive year? We've been devastatingly close to CL qualification in consecutive years. A good (not even fantastic) RW would most likely have been the difference.

Word for word exactly this.

Bigger than signing Perez?

Our current available wide players are Ghezzal, Masawanhise, Albrighton, Sowah, so I'd say we need a left and right 🤔

You forgot Maddison on the left and Perez on the right.  :D

Only just looked at the results of this poll, and I find the results hugely concerning.   :frusty:

I'd find it more concerning if people weren't worried about what continues to be a quite glaring weakness in the squad

I have always been a big fan of DAVID BROOKS. After his serious injury, he seems to be getting back into shape.

He could help us with his technique, speed and scoring power. There is no comparable right winger who would probably be available.

I would try everything to buy him...

Less than a year to go on his contract. Was poor last season and barely played the year before, would be a risk.

The two friendlies have proved we are desperately crying out for a starting right winger. Without Barnes in the side our current wide options are honking. Sowah and Jethro have both shown they have huge potential but neither are ready to be regulars in a team with our ambitions.

As much as I love Albrighton he is a defensive winger and doesn’t offer enough going forward for me. Ghezzal has decent set piece delivery but other than has looked fairly anonymous in open play, therefore we need to invest in someone who can bring some real quality and be a first team regular.

we have played 2 games against league one opposition and created very little in both games and whilst our wide players have shown little bursts of what they have In the locker, there has been next to no end product and if we go into the season with the current options, I think our lack of quality out wide will cost us.

The easiest way to answer this question is as follows if Perez, Albrighton and Ghezzal were all playing for other clubs and had been linked to us this summer we would be in uproar and seriously concerned …..therefore your honour case dismissed, Rudders sign a right winger or two today 😀

First the club have to show they are prepared to spend the money and at the moment there is absolutely no sign of that. Favourite for the role right now is Ghezzal. Our net spend so far is 40 million , that is more than the last two windows.

If you look at our good spells the past couple of years we’ve had goals coming from multiple players. And bad spells we’ve been over reliant on just one player (eg Nacho in the run in last year). We need more options to help us on the bad spells. We don’t currently have a right winger who seems capable of pitching in with a decent amount of goals or assists, so I can’t really understand the rationale of why we wouldn’t want a decent option there.

I think the desire to 'replace Mahrez' has become a near on obsession. Mahrez worked for us (well, not always, he could be a bit work shy... wot! shock horror!! criticism of our "sweet prince" lol) ... where was I? Ah yes, Mahrez worked for us in that formation with that crop of players.  It's a different team now and we play a different way.

Yes, we could do we another creative player to give us options to unlock the defences that sit back against us (not a problem only we have btw) but it doesn't need to be a right winger.

Maswanhise was a bright star last night. Early days, I know, but I was super impressed with him; both his skills and his confidence. Wouldn't it be great if out next 'sweet prince' was already within our ranks?
