I donate every few months in Melton and like you i love to receive the texts saying where my blood has gone too - Last one was Guys Hospital on 20th April. I will continue to donate for as long as i can, as its no biggie to me and i feel i am making a contribution to society.

Gotta love the free chockie biscuit too :D

I've been a donor for many years and recently reached a major milestone.

After donating, you get a text some weeks later telling you where your donation has been allocated. My last one went to Alder Hey Children's hospital. As a donor you don't mind who it benefits but to go to potentially helping, even saving the life of a child is particularly gratifying.

Problem for me is, that last donation of mine will be my last.

Quite unexpectedly,  I now need to take some medication that means I can no longer donate.  I am absolutely, bloody devastated by this.

Selfishly, if you like, to make me feel better, but far more importantly to help a fellow human, I would like to think I can get at least one new donor - or returning donor - to take my place.

In Leicester we have a great new facility, appointment based system and great staff. Sure you may be a little nervous before you first donation you may not like needles but hey, you or someone you love may need to receive some blood in the future and it is so simple.

Any discomfort?  Nope, unless you count ripping the plaster off your hairy arms later in the day.

I would really like at least one of the Foxestalk community to give it a go, please.

A wonderful and very selfless thing to do.

Well done mate, must have saved many lives over the years.

I've never even thought about it before, which makes me feel like a bit of an idiot to be honest.

I'll certainly look in to doing it in my local area, Northampton.

Lovely touch that they let you know where it's helped out too.

There's some bloody great people on here. No pun intended.

When he was younger, my wife’s brother had Leukaemia. Thankfully he’s still with us, however he needed a large number of blood transplants to pull through.

Around 15 years ago, she decided that she wanted to give blood to pass this forwards so to speak. She collapsed half way through her first donation, as she has a real fear of needles and has never been again. I’ve typically been three to four times per year ever since including the first night after lockdown in March last year.

It’s vital that people do this. I can get in and out in under 25 minutes normally and I don’t think this is a lot to ask, to potentially save someone’s like.

My family on Dad's side has a history of high cholesterol and I've been on statins since a kid so I've never been allowed to donate.

Big respect to those that do, including my uncle on Mums side who's been donating for as long as I can remember, so I guess over 40 years.

Is this a new thing telling you where it was allocated to?

I used to give blood regularly but haven't done so for a few years, Arranged an appointment to do so again a few days ago.

Well done on a fantastic milestone. You're right, the Leicester facility is impressive. I give every 3 months, there or there abouts. Just received my certificate for 10th donation. I have a big fear of needles, my only fear in life really, so get quite nervous before donation, but as with all irrational fears, its never as bad as you think it is

Massively wonderful gesture to make.

Kudos to anyone who does this.

Think @philce has done well over 100?

I'm just too scared of needles!

Until very recently I've not been allowed to donate on account of me being gay; that changed in June this year yet I've still not got around to doing it for whatever reason. I'll make sure I get myself on the list to donate now, so thanks for the nudge :)

Just give it a go. No one likes needles, some have a great fear, but imagine the sense of achievement you'll feel if you overcome it. Oh! and you'll be making a fantastic contribution too.

I used to do the plasma and platelet donations, but they haven't sent for me for a while. I did get past the 100 donations thing which I was pleased with.

Wow!! 100 - Incredible, well done. You've saved countless lives, must be a very good feeling knowing that!

@Free Falling Foxesand @Suzie the Fox. Great shout out for both of you and everyone else who donates. I used to donate regularly but I am not allowed to any more because of the medication I am taking. The mobile donation clinic used to come round to my work. Large companies should be leaned on to provide regular donation sessions on their site, if they all did it would make a positive difference.

What a great idea to find to find surrogate donor.

I've never given. But always thought I should. Terrible really that I've never been arsed to

I'll make myself an appointment by the end of the month. Thanks dude for the idea.

Not quite 100 yet @Raj, but on the way. Platelets now and "neo" so it can be used for neo-natal, last weeks went to Liverpool.

Was a lapsed donor until a few years ago, re-started and then a few months later the mrs was diagnosed with terminal breast cancer.

Knowing very soon she will probably need someone blood products, its more important for me knowing that I can make the difference to someone seeing another birthday or family milestone.

They are always asking for new donors, don't be scared of needles, most of us are big enough pricks to deal with it!
