Wouldn't normally start a new topic for something like this, but felt it would reach more people who'd know rather than popping it in the Question thread in General Chat.

Me and my sister are taking my 5 year old nephew to his first game on Saturday, and thought rather than rushing back to our mums, where my sister is stopping the weekend, we'd take him for something to eat after. Does anyone know anywhere that's family friendly, not too far from the ground where we could take him? I suggested Nandos, but I think he wants a beef burger lol Ideally we want somewhere that won't be crazy busy so we're not waiting ages for food, or it's not rammed with noisy fans.

It's so much easy going football with out kids lol

If you are willing to go nandos then there's plenty of places in that area at the top of the highcross. So maybe worth walking there and let him choose.

Maybe five guys but that’s in the city centre.

Thanks guys. I think my sister was after somewhere close the the stadium, but that limits the choices obviously.

What about the local hero? I haven’t personally been there in years but it’s near the ground and does burgers etc.

I haven't been there in ages, no idea if it would be OK for a 5 year old, especially after the game.

Queen's Road is only about a 20-minute walk from the stadium.

It has a couple of decent restaurants, including Barceloneta.

The Clarendon pub there is quite good, too, apparently.

Yeah that’s the only issue I guess not sure if it gets post match drinkers. I would be surprised if it did though and you can book a table anyway.

Get him a kebab off the Narb ... genuinely there are a few decent Turkish places along Narborough Road, they do shashlik and stuff, nice bits of bread, rice, olives

It's not 20 minutes when you're walking with my Nephew lol

If you can persuade him away from the burger then Nandos on Freeman's Common is ideal. I went there with my lad before the Man City game. They are only using half the tables so we had a 20 minute wait which we spent having a drink sat outside the Local Hero and they texted us when the table was ready.  👍

We're edging him towards a chicken burger, so Nandos might be an option. He'll probably go back on that though, so good to have a back up option.

If these replies don’t convince you it’s a bad idea nothing will. Sit him at home with 5 episodes of Paw Patrol  back to back and leave the fridge open. You all win.

He's really excited about going to be honest. Loves playing every week, watched some of the euros. I'm sure he'll love the game, but he'll be whinging for food around full time that's for sure.

Haha only joking, I’m sure I’ll be taking my nephew at some point as well.

Wherever you go within walking distance will be rammed so it depends on how far you want to walk to be honest. You’ll probably laugh but pre match I’ve ended up in Morrison’s cafe a few times if all else failed lol

I think the only place suitable close to the ground is Nando’s. I’ve been before and after matches - it will be busy but the virtual queuing system is quite well organised. Personally I wouldn’t go in any of the local pubs with a young child after the game.

If you have a car and he’s set on a burger, then I would drive out to Meridien and go to Five Guys - lovely burgers made to order and only a short drive away. And the nicest chips in the world!
